  1. I think you have this right. Concord has the potential to create great sets (the Ray Charles ABC Singles box being a good recent example) but. . . why should they in jazz in this day and age of cd devaluation. My understanding/memery is that the last of them came out under Concord, but had already been in the pipeline from Fantasy. Concord has conceived nothing.
  2. That jazz lab set is really nice, I have it and am very happy with it, excellent price also.
  3. Yes, but we want someone to blame... The shame is that Fantasy was actually starting to do some credible reissue packages (Stitt's Bits, Red Garland at the Prelude, the three Coltrane boxes, the Miles Quintet box, the Evans VV box, etc.) before they sold the catalog to Concord. So much more that could have been done along those lines. Now we're back to this. This, and "..... Plays for Lovers", and the beloved Andorrans doing the only intelligent reissue packaging.
  4. Not that I can see on Amazon, CD Universe,or Dusty Groove.
  5. PM sent on Tubby Hayes - Inventivity (Candid) 2-discs, one with Cat Anderson/Rol Ericson the other with S.Nistico/A.Stinson $8
  6. Wanted to mention that the Alice Darr session was the "newfound treasure" for me on this set. Lowe and Duvivier had also done a session with Sarah Vaughan the previous year. Darr is a different type of singer, but a very effective one, and this is a really nice set if you like singer/guitar/bass. Alice Darr - I Only Know How To Cry 11 - I Only Know How To Cry (Moskatel - Lowe) (0:00) 12 - Yes, He’s Gone (Moskatel) (0:00) 13 - Love Does Funny Things (Neiburg - Woode) (0:00) 14 - Leave Me Alone (Moskatel - Lowe) (0:00) 15 - Under This Smile (Stride - Deane) (0:00) 16 - There He Goes (Varone) (0:00) 17 - The Lost And The Lonely (Lowe - Lowe) (0:00) 18 - I Can’t Find My Way Home (Slavska - Ashby) (0:00) 19 - It’s A Lonely World (Moskatel - Lowe) (0:00) 20 - Try, Try Again (Maurer) (0:00) 21 - Seasons Lost Love (Maurer - Fischbein) (0:00) 22 - You’re So Far Away From Me (Riviera - Canton - Dinton) (0:00) Recorded May 18th, 1962 A&R Studio, New York City, Engineer Phil Ramone Alice Darr, Voice - Mundell Lowe, Guitar - George Duvivier, bass.
  7. and the Leon Thomas titles ("The Leon Thomas Album" has never been on CD, and the others have been difficult to find) and the Larry Coryell "Fairyland" Montreux recording. And there were other interesting titles floating in and out of the periphery of my memory, such as Arnie Lawrence, Chico Hamilton, Harold Alexander...
  8. That tends to happen to me as well, no matter who's doing the song. I openly cried the first time I heard/saw this when the 9/11 concert was broadcast.
  9. Just received an email from Mosaic that they are selling individual DVD's now. http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MDVD-2006
  10. Should be able to get a few dollars for them at used stores or here or dustygroove buys used CD's via mail. I might even have some interest in a few of them if you want to IM me.
  11. Both my shipments arrived fine, thanks.
  12. I paid, I think, $49 for mine from one of the online clubs several years ago and have never had a shred of buyer's remorse. Tough set for storage though!
  13. PM sent on Jazz Magazine Fall 1978 v3, #1 Carmen MacRae on cover Jazz Magazine Spring 1979 v3 #2 Charles Mingus cover Jazz Magazine Fall 1979 v3 #4 Stan Kenton cover, as far as I know that was the last issue.
  14. Request for clarification. Is the pitch problem just with the live music in the box, or also somehow with the studio stuff (which may pretty well ruin the entire box). There are enough interesting studio sessions to justify the box for me even if the live stuff is flawed.
  15. I agree with that, even being that I'm the one that mentioned the Evans.
  16. Ancient memory says it is the only one you need to hear. YMMV. The one with Bill Evans is pretty good also, but I'm not losing any sleep over not owning "Jeremy & The Satyrs".

  19. No problem here, I'll buy the Stieg.
  20. Just as I predicted. On the release date (today), Amazon's price is $123.85 but they're out of stock. However, Marketplace reseller "Germany" (which I believe is actually Membran) has it for $39.30. I bit, even though, if history's any indication, the price just might drop further than that going forward. Amazon resellers Same here. Thanks for pointing this out. It might go a bit lower, but it's hard to imagine a 30 CD set going for much below $30. Shipping is a bit higher for me, but still a good deal considering the alternatives. Ordered mine. Not willing to take the risk of missing this price to see if it goes lower.
  21. Also #1 on my list, and Washington Suite is #2.
  22. PM sent on the Benny Carter and the Duke Ellington Harlem.
  23. Listening to it now. The pauses are in the performance. You can tell by where they occur, and also the liner notes refer to them. If you watch the DVD he recorded in Europe (spectacular in performance and in sound/picture/photography), you will actually see those pauses.
