How does your spouse react to your hobby/obsession?
EKE BBB replied to Dmitry's topic in Miscellaneous Music
She doesn't have any actual interest in music. But I've taken her to a few jazz concerts (mainly piano solo concerts, as she plays some piano) and we have learned to live in harmony... all of us: me, her, our two children (a third one coming soon) and my music. -
And... where do you sit to listen to the music?

Has anybody heard this? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Live-Reco...4/dp/B000IXZ7GG Looking at the contents of this 10 CD box, it's not complete at all (no Charlie Parker-led group recordings, not all the Benny Carter orchestra recordings are included...).

Very sad news. A true original (much in the way Pee Wee Russell was) has gone. Here's Steve Voce's obituary for The Independent:

Very sad news. My sincerest condolences to his family.

Sad to report that former Ellington drummer Dave Black died yesterday at his home near Petaluma CA. He was with Duke's orchestra from 1953 to 1955. R.I.P.

Specially if brownie offers you one of his "wine specialties"!

Was this material reissued on the mammoth 24-cd Centennial box? Yes, Greg. "RCA 22/15" quote means "RCA Centennial Edition, disc 22, track 15"

Recently published and recommended (see specific thread) is the "Creole Rhapsody" 2CD compilation on ASV/Living Era. And, besides the Duke Ellington: 1936-40 Small Group Sessions (#235) Mosaic box set, there's more Ellington coming in the scheduled Various Artists – The Jazz Piano (MCD-1012) Mosaic single CD: Guess this is: June 20, 1965. Pittsburgh. Concert at the Civic Arena. Jazz Piano Workshop. Duke Ellington & Earl Hines: Duke Ellington, Earl Hines, p; Larry Gales, b; Ben Riley, d. TPA3356 RCA LPM-3499 RCA:22/15, L&R:1/15.2 and SDT:19 House Of Lords -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This recently released 2 CD compilation on the ASV/Living Era label is highly recommended as an approach to the music of the orchestra in the 30s (a period very poorly covered on CD so far). Sound is very good (very "vivid", with the separation of the instruments very clear, and the remaining surface noise doesn't bother me at all) and the selection is great... though you can't go wrong with 30s EKE.
