I am trying to trace down the release date for the LP reissue of 'Gentle Ben' (Ensayo) on the Hungarian label 'Fidelio' (Fidelio LP 12”: FL 4475 – Gentle Ben). Back cover states Does anyone have any input on this label? Thanks in advance!

Very interesting disc. Got it for my Tete Montoliu research, but have enjoyed it all through! You were able to find a real copy of that? (..) Yes, I was. A year ago or so. But sorry, I can't recall from which online store I got it.

Yes, you're right, Chuck, I knew that (you told me about it a couple of years ago). I'm afraid "Straight reissue" was not an accurate expression. I was trying to express there were no additional tracks.
-
'Did You Call' is a straight reissue of 'Gentle Ben', that brownie mentioned. From my Tete Montoliu discography:

More interesting footage of Kirk to be found on this Impro-Jazz DVD: BTW: the Kirk-Montoliu tracks are from 1964 and NOT from 1962. I've sent them this correction with no reply, so far.

That's REALLY good news!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting it. -
From my Tete Montoliu research, I have discovered this session (different from the "Ben Webster Meets Don Byas" session, and actually recorded two days later): Date: February 3, 1968 Location: SWF’s Studio, Karlsruhe, Germany Label: [radio broadcast] Don Byas, Ben Webster (ldr), Don Byas, Ben Webster (ts), Tete Montoliu (p), Peter Trunk (b), Albert 'Tootie' Heath (d) a. Perdido (15:14) b. Stardust (5:12) Omit Don Bays (ts) on b. Broadcast on SWF Jazz Session program. I know this has been issued on a disc called something like "Tenorbattle" or "Tenor Battle", but I have no further reference (label, catalog number, additional material included...). Any help is much appreciated! Regards, Agustín

Your Royal Highness: A big thank you for posting those pics with the discographical information for the Benny Goodman set. For family reasons, I practically haven't accessed this board (or the internet) for a couple of weeks and couldn't see this thread. Yours truly, The sinner

He's supposed to have acted as a sideman for Bird in a few gigs, while still on his teens. No recorded evidence, to my knowledge. -

From Birdland's website: -
This comes from somebody who got a review copy of this upcoming 8 CD set: -Some 1940 broadcasts -Fargo concert (2 CDs worth) -1943 Carnegie Hall concert (2 CDs worth) -and other tracks up to and including 1948. So 4 out of 8 discs are the Fargo and the 1943 Carnegie Hall concerts. Though reportedly they have done a very good remastering job, it's bit deceiving, isn't it?
