I have 2 of the single CD releases (OJC reissue): "Sunday at the Village Vanguard" and "Waltz for Debbie". Sound´s OK for me. Let´s see if I pick "More from the Village Vanguard" or this 3CD-box set. Tete Montoliú: -Catalonian nights (vol. 1-3) 1980. Tete Montoliú trio with John Heard and Tootie Heath. -Boston concert (vol. 1-2) 1980. Tete Montoliú solo piano. These recordings are in my top-ten Tete. 1980 was a great year for recorded Tete!

Abbey Lincoln (November, 12) Fabulous concert! A short one: about 65 minutes plus 3 bises (yeah, we got three bises from her). The public was totally devoted to her. Only nine songs, opening with a superb rendition of Hoagy Carmichael´s "Skylark" and ending with a beautiful "The nearness of you". In the middle, some hits she got in the last twenty years such as "Love is made" (from her last CD, "It´s me"), "The world is falling down", "Down here below", "Throw it away", "Through the years"... And she attempted "Somos novios" in Spanish. People got mad about it... though her pronuntiation was not very academic. I can´t understand those who argue that Abbey doesn´t swing. She may be 73 years old. Her voice´s not at the highest point, obviously. And yes, she went out of tune a couple of times... ...but it was a wonderful, sincere, relaxing concert! I dig her special phrasing, her diction, her strange intonation. The way she ends verses, like if the note was disappearing... She offers a different treatment for each song. Looks like she´s singing for herself. Capable rhythm section: Marc Cary on piano; Michael Bowie on bass; Jaz Sawyer on drums. They had a lot of room for soloing. Worth paying that 18€!!!!!

For that price (90 $) I can stand it... -though the sound´s not the best available -though they miss a few tracks -though there´s a lot of duplication with my 31 CDs from that period! I pre-ordered it.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The answer is no!

One of my favorite recordings of this song: Oscar Peterson Trio (with Ed Thigpen and Ray Brown) There are two sessions included in this 1996 Verve reissue, one from 1959 and one from 1962. Can´t remember where´s "Waltz for Debbie".

Just to start...

Another remarkable one is René Urtreger joue Bud Powell. René Urtreger with Benoit Quersin ( b ) and Jean-Louis Viale ( d ). Recorded February 24, 1955 at the Pathé-Magelian studio, Paris. Six Powell covers and two originals. One of my favorite "Parisian thoroughfare" versions. The only regretable thing is the CD length: less than 25 minutes!
