Cute little toy. Not worth the 10g's imo, but cute. Now, if you add another 90k, you can have a real machine - http://www.teslamotors.com -
WOW. I am VERY interested in this. I have the above-mentioned album, Sun Ra Meets Salah Ragab in Egypt on cd. It rocks! In a 1001 Nights sort of way... Here's the description of this LP from another on-line retailer - Salah Ragab formed the first jazz big band in Egypt (The Cairo Jazz Band) in 1968, he was also the leader of the Military Music Departments in Heliopolis. Some of the best musicians in Egypt of that time were members of the band such as Zaki Osman: trumpet, Saied Salama: tenor sax, Khamis El-Kholy: piano and Ala Mostafa: piano. On this recording, the band consists of five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, piano, bass, drums and percussion. These recordings present Salah Ragab and The Cairo Jazz Band's definitive work, recorded in Heliopolis, Egypt between 1968 and 1973. Western jazz musicians have been fascinated with the world of Islam for many years, for religious/spiritual, musical and sociological reasons. It was therefore inevitable that musicians of the Arabian North African area would play a part in the interaction of these two musical cultures. The compositions correspond to the crossover of musical styles at the time of the recording, 5000 miles away across the Mediterranean and Atlantic in New York with releases on Moodsville by Yusef Lateef and RCA by Ahmud Abdul-Malik. This record represents The Cairo Jazz Band responding to the American jazz scene of the '60s and '70s with influences from Mongo Santamaria to Randy Weston and Sun Ra. These tracks were first presented by The Ministry Of Culture in Cairo as a Prism Music Production and released with an additional disk by the composer Soliman Gamil 'Musical Images.' This release marks the first time Salah Ragab and The Cairo Jazz Band's definitive works are presented to the West. Does this mean there's an original Lp [+ another Lp] floating around the Red Sea?

Don't have to be a real thing . A gas/pneumatic look-alike will more than do. -

So they come with the book proper or each set comes with a little booklet compiled from the book? -

These come with a book? -
Just curious - does the donor know that the collection is worth thousands of dollars?

Of course, but you don't have to reveal your ebay ID. Tell us what it is, post it again in the next month. Or is it so rare that it only appears once every six months? Well, if I tell you which set it was and you look up the completed auctions for this set you don't need to be a genius or even mildly intelligent to see which is which... Anyway, that's just my little idiosyncrasy... Which constitutional amendment does this fall under, btw? OK, I didn't think about the completed items search ... but what's the point of keeping it a secret? There are plenty of people here who would bid up anything you put up, especially rare Mosaics. No wonder you're a dentist. Ya got no business instincts! Dan, I'll be the first one to admit that I am the worst sales person you'll ever meet, but one thing I did come to understand from my travails - never do business with friends, if you don't want to lose them...and I do consider you guys my friends. PLUS - looks like most of you don't have any money anyway, so why bother?!

Re; which set was it? I ain't telling you, because I don't want to disclose my ebay ID. Call this a whim, but ... Anyone remember the Seinfeld episode when George wouldn't tell his bank card pin # to his fiancee?

Quite honestly, I believe that the world as a whole would be betteroff if Ornette Coleman had gotten his second McArthur grant. Maybe Regina Carter will own up to it and pass it along to him, since he is a genius, and she ..... is not.

Well, my guess is that eBay messages get stored on a central server and it would be a snap for eBay to follow-up on this. Be as it may I'm going to save our email exchange, just in case...

Here's the story - A couple of weeks ago I listed an oop Mosaic set on eBay, and it sold for 1/2 the price it usually fetches. Fine, sometimes people get lucky, I thought. Winner paid me by PayPal, I was ready to mail the set, when I received a curious email from the runner-up on that auction. I won't go into the details verbatim, but the gist of it was that while the auction was still going, the person who later won the set had sent him an email that he forwarded to me. Basiaclly it said someting to this effect, ..."It's you again! I notice that you buy Mosaics for resale or whatever you do with them. Don't bid on this set. Would you give some other people a chance?! .." The person who'd forwarded the email said that indeed he buys Mosaics on eBay when he gets a good deal on them, and fuels his other jazz acquisitions by sometimes reselling them. My guess the auction winner was outbid by this guy now and again. After receiving the email, he got put off and didn't bid on my set. So I wrote to him and laid it out in no uncertain words. He claimed it was an innocent prank and was rather nonchalant about the whole thing... After a brief exchange I told him I will not mail the Mosaic, refund his money and put him on my blocked bidders list. I also told him I should've really alerted eBay about this nonsense. He emailed back, saying it was fine and that I would recoop my listing fee if I put it up again, because it would sell for more. Some balls on this jazz collector!!! I wonder if he emailed other bidders as well... This guy has almost 600 positive feedback, btw... I've been involved with eBay from 1998, and never had anything like this happen. Weird stuff, folks.

His recent output is spotty at best, imo...have the Girl from Martinique also, excellent LP!

This is a sad and unofrtunately not an uncommon story. At least these two found each other. I wish to find out what happened to my maternal grandfather who went MIA in June of 1941. I doubt it'll be possible though. I'm 35 and I'm older than he was... -
Happy happy!

I don't often use expletives, but I believe it's justified in this case. GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN is one fucking amazing album.

Now we must know Trane's real name, in case he decides to sell the now deflowered booklets. How perverse! I have mine cryogenically frozen. Didn't ya know polycarbonate discs will dematerialize to a cloud of dust when defrosted? What are you saying? You mean you actually play yours?!

I wonder if it makes you epeestrophy...

Looks like you've been shafted, Trane. You should definitely contact Mosaic or better yet the Stamford Police Department, Division of Boxed Set Surveilance. Ask for detective Chewy Chew. He'll set ya straight, kid.
