  1. C'mon, man. Q lived with HER.
  2. I'm not sure about that. Quincy knows his shit. Herbie ain't nothin but a punk comparing to Q.
  3. She probably watched his Bose infomercial and fell in love.
  4. Something tells me Lon will have a couple of words to say about this label.
  5. Bought 2 cds on Document Records tonight - THE EARLIEST BLACK STRING BANDS - Vol.2 - Dan Kildare [1917-1919] and Kid Ory - The Complete Sunshine, Exner, Decca Recordings 1922-1945 & "This is Jazz" Broadcast 1947 I'm not familiar with the Document label, but the songs in their on-line juke-box are cool. The store I bought these from had a bunch of Document cds for 6.99 -8.99. Should I pick up anything else? http://www.document-records.com/ I am largely not familiar with the pre-swing music, but I'm very slowly easing into it.
  6. From the Mosaic email in response to my inquiry - Dmitry There are no plans to reissue Louis' Deccas at the moment, but thanks for the request. We'll look into it further. best scott wenzel kibosh...
  7. Junior Cock was supposed to play that session, but for some reason he backed out.
  8. Thank you. I already have the "I Love Jazz" and "Satchmo Serenades". Will pick up the 3-cd set next! Great that it's all available in retail!
  9. My apologies for stirring up the pot. I leafed thgrough the linked thread. Good thing it's over. Back to music now.
  10. I haven't been posting much in the last few months, so can someone hip me to what happened with deus62? His profile says he's unregistered..
  11. What are the best alternatives to the Mosaic's Complete Decca Studio Recordings of Louis Armstrong and the All Stars, if I were to assemble the non-Mosaic cds piece-meal? This set has 6 cds or 8 Q-Lps[they don't pop up on eBay very often].
  12. If you have any such photographs, I'd be very interested to see them. I am running very low on photographs of Hewitt. Luke ← I'll check if I have any when I get home.

Wait until you have some ex-Wives ! ← Just what I was thinking. Oy vey.
  14. I have been fortunate to hear Frank Hewitt at Smalls numerous times and enjoyed his playing immensely. Him and Lovelace were there every night, it seemed. In my opinion he was just about the only piano player in New York who was doing straight bop gigs on a daily basis during '99-'02 or so, the years I used to go to Smalls. I even remember an orthodox Rabbi who sat in one night on the drums with Frank and Co. Wasn't too bad. I should have a few rolls of b/w Tri-max film I used to shoot over there. Might have some shots of FH..

It's not like the guy had much else to offer during the divorce proceedings...
  16. Thanks, I didn't know that Benedetti recorded Bird at the Onyx. Is Onyx the club somehow related to Onyx the record label?
  17. Why does it have to be so difficult? Mosaic wouldn't be interested in this project?
  18. F&*^ing A!
  19. RZ, you got me interested. I might want to give your cd a try. I never heard of the Ambassador label until now. Are there liner notes?
  20. I know of a couple of Miles Davis gigs from 1948, one or two Stuff Smith dates. How about Tatum?
  21. Chuck, which cds? I don't think aside from some compilations there's a more or less comprehensive US-released boxed set of LA on Decca [unless I'm wrong], aside from the Mosaic box, but I was mostly asking about the earlier stuff. Definitive has 3 chronological boxes out, but only the master takes...
  22. Yes, Yoda. Which ones?
  23. From the 20s-30s onto, say early 1950s?
  24. Indeed is right. I have both the Stereo and Mono Lps of the Piano Portraits and it's has the same feel that the best of the Contemporary records have. I Love a Piano is also great[and one of the less appealing covers]. All my records are boxed for the next month or so, so I had no way to check if this was indeed the Roulette stuff. If the eBay price stays low it would be a nice way to get these for someone.
