  1. I look at it this way - he's got maybe 3 years to go, before we start seeing patently-obvious sings of decline. Why not play these remaining years for a symbolic salary or even for free in a club that have given him everything he deserved since he was a little boy, and for the enjoyment and love of the fans in the city that idolizes him? He's got to be worth hundreds of millions. Does he need more millions?! Paris will never, ever laud him like the people of Catalonia have. Have you been to Barcelona? You literally can't walk 100 paces without encountering some kind of effigy to the man.
  2. Messi is confirmed at PSG. Two year deal, worth...a lot. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/aug/10/lionel-messi-heading-to-paris-to-seal-psg-move-after-agreeing-two-year-contract He could've stayed at Barcelona, of course. Instead, he just cried, and left.
  3. Messi and Ramos…teammates. Fucking hell.
  4. I hope he doesn't end up in Man City or in the MLS. I despise Man City: the owners and top management are top shelf criminals to me. Where would you like to see Messi next?
  5. I watched the highlights of a few matches. Spain-Argentina was OK. France didn't look good at all. I'm hoping an African team or two go into the semi-finals and onwards. Women's soccer isn't my cup of tea.
  6. That would be even better. Love the sudden death.
  7. What a messed up way to lose….
  8. He did not refer to World War II. Citing your link, this is what he said: I think there are historic things that we should be proud of," Southgate said on Friday. "There are different aspects to it, but at heart I go back to the values that my parents gave me and treating people as you would want to be treated, and just respectful really. "But also people have tried to invade us and we've had the courage to hold that back. You can't hide that some of the energy in the stadium against Germany was because of that. I never mentioned that to the players, but I know that's part of what that story was. "We have so many things here that we should be proud of that we probably underestimate, that maybe if we were living in other countries we always see what's good about them, but we are always looking at the negatives of our own country. Yet we have got so much to be proud of. For an island our size, we've got an incredible influence on the world and we've got to keep that in a positive way." Vivere est militare. BTW, the cynical tackles didn't result in anyone leaving the pitch. I find it much better not to have the added time, but go to penalties right after the 90. This way, players battle all the way to the last seconds, and not roll the ball around for the 30 minutes preceding PKs, like they do in UEFA.
  9. Why SHOULD you do any favors to anyone on the continent nearby? I think you've done enough in the two bloodiest wars in history. Your neighbors always ask for more, and say this wasn't enough. If soccer isn't a result of a state's politics...then I don't know. Look at the composition of the Dutch team - most of them are of african descent. Same for the French - africans and north africans. It's pleasant to see that they continue that trait into their politics. The Dutch and the French have had a great many black african and arab leaders, right? Then they all complain about English drunks in the stands. The Brazil-Argentina match yesterday was the one for the ages. You Europeans should watch how it ought to be done. Finally, Leo Messi was crowned the King. Viva Messi!
  10. My take on the European press: everyone hates England. Again.
  11. I didn't mean it as a slight. The English better take this Cup on Sunday; the next one may not happen in a while!
  12. IMHO, without Sterling and Kane England would be just a slightly above average team. Also, Playing all but one match at Wembley, with near unanimous fan support had played a major part only afforded to a host team.
  13. Argentina-Colombia semifinal was intense, and the outcome even more dramatic.
  14. A good match. Spain was surprisingly-good in the second half. I was not sure who’d win until the very end. Italians were not prepared for such a good game from the Spanish, but their discipline was strong. Good luck to them! Also, if you have not been watching the Copa America, you’ve missed out on a lot. The elimination matches were amazing. Tonight’s Argentina-Colombia was more intense than most of the Euros. Messi finally scored a penalty that mattered! Saturday is the final - Brazil-Argentina at Maracana!!!
  15. What a bad game from the Ukrainians… Their mental stamina appears to be immature. Still, good luck to the English!
  16. I don’t remember seeing a National team miss three penalties in a row. That was painful to watch. italy is the favorite for me, after their lesson today.
  17. Today, in his annual call-in with the serfs, Putin has voiced his dissatisfaction with the performance of his hockey and football teams. Rest assured, changes will be made. The serfs are rejoicing. I must add that the Stalin-lookalike coach of the Russian national soccer team makes 2,500,000 Euros per year. That is way more than an average Russian serf makes these days, even though the playing field is leveling for the serfs.
  18. Interesting statistic, tracing the teams who made it from the Group Stage into the 1/4-finals. 100% В - Belgium, Denmark. 2/2. 66 % А- Italy, Switzerland. 2/3. 66 % D- England, Czech Republic. 2/3. 50% Е - Spain. 1/2. 33 % С - Ukraine. 1/3. 0 % F - 0/3. The objectively strongest group F - France, Germany, Portugal, is decimated. I'm just talking friendly trash, I hope you aren't taking it to heart. I was so hopeful England would show us the fast and dynamic football this squad is born to play - Shaw, Walker, Phillips, Mount, Foden, Grealish, Kane, but this hasn't been the case yet.
  19. Luckily, your manager isn't good enough to understand how important Grealish is for your side.
  20. England-Ukraine this Saturday in Rome. If the Ukrainians will neutralize the elastic Sterling, we might have a game!
  21. This is the first time in history when neither the reigning European Champion nor the World Champion had made it to the 1/4 finals. Indeed. Also, Pickford is one of the best keepers I've ever seen on the goal line. I'm just referring to his awesome saves on the line, not him being an amazing universal keeper overall.
  22. The Germans made England look competent! What a lame German team...
  23. Well, just about all my predictions went up in a cloud of stinking smoke. The biggest upset is, of course, the elimination of the reigning World Champions French in the first elimination round. England-Germany and Sweden-Ukraine today.
  24. Ukraine lost two matches, barely won against North Macedonia, still made it to the 1/8, and will be facing Sweden. Talk about being lucky… Tomorrow Wales may pull a surprise.
