  1. You're right, Dan, and I did order the 45, but I haven't received it yet. My credit card hasn't been charged, so I guess Jim's got stock problems. MG
  2. Well, I hope you're nice and relaxed on board your luxury yacht, with an endless supply of martinis MG
  3. Pity the croc's not wearing a 'Fickle sonance' hat MG
  4. Jimmy Witherspoon - Midnight lady called the blues - Muse Fabulous sleeve! Classic band! Great producer (Doc Pomus). Wonderful music. Spoon getting old (1986) but still doing it. Every R&B fan should have this. MG
  5. Oh yes, he was from Nebraska. Have you read his autobiography? Very interesting. Noted you for a download. MG
  6. Thanks for that, Jim. A little digging and I found he was actually pictured on the inside gatefold of Jimmy McGriff's 'A bag full of soul' (Solid State). Now, can I find a pic to put up here? Oh, I can upload it. There we are. He looks young there MG
  7. Just picked this up. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-21983894# He was 72, which surprised me. And South African, which surprised me even more. I'm sure I have some albums he produced but I can't think of any. Apart from the few famous ones mentioned in the news article, what is he known for of interest here? MG
  8. The WIlliams Brothers/The Jackson Southernaires (1 side each) - With you in mind - Songbird (MCA) (No image on web) Sonny Stiff - Primitivo soul - Prestige (blue label stereo) Now Ramsey Lewis - Goin' Latin - Cadet (Chess UK mono) Next up Gospelaires - Camp meeting - Peacock (ABC) MG
  9. All that stuff is surely PD in Europe now. I dare say one of the Euro companies doing boxes might reissue the stuff. I think I wouldn't mind the JATP set for a few quid. MG
  10. After all these years, Scott, you remember me well. Having heard the positive result on Miles, I would consider it a waste of good glue to apply it to Alice Coltrane. Is there, perhaps, a glue that will remove her pseudo spirituality? I assume money didn't work... MG
  11. Was he Nigerian? Just looked at Amazon UK for prices of John Patton stuff. Amazed to see someone's asking £273.94 (£273.94? WTF) for a vinyl of 'Memphis to New York spirit'. (Who would want the vinyl when the CD has three otherwise unreleased tracks from another session with Cabell?) Is this price a joke? Also, £51.90 for Eagle eye blues already. Is that out of print? SOmeone should tell George there's still money to be made out of this album. MG
  12. Now Mango Santamania - Soy yo - Concord Picante (Belaphon Germany) Now on his lurvely version of Anita's 'Sweet love'. I do like Mongo handling soul material. MG
  13. It surprise me that we don't have messages from Nigerian scam artists claiming to have three cylinders with the following titles: 'Authority stealing'; Dixieland version of classic Fela song: 'The Fat Man'; Dixieland version of classic New Orleans song: and 'Watermelon man'; original version of Herbie Hancock ripoff. MG
  14. This evening Earl Bostic & his alto sax no 2 - King (Parlophone 10") (Ripped sleeve - done by my daughter when she was 2yo) Lovely music though. Bill Doggett - Hot Doggett - King (Odeon France) The Harmonizing Four - Where he leads me - Gotham (Hob) Beautiful stuff from 1950-55 Now Randy Weston - Blue Moses - CTI (Pye UK) This always, but every time, makes me feel fantastic! It's the arrangements, I'm sure, and I'm not really partial to Sebesky generally, but this.... MG
  15. That's Spillers' new premises, in Morgan Arcade. The photographer picked a good day for lighting the shop. I was absent Cob Records in Porthmadog is a very interesting shop in a tiny town. It's impossible to envisage where their customers come from but, from what I've heard, everyone in North Wales knows them. I've met people from right out in the sticks up there, who find speaking English very difficult (not deliberately, y'know), who know all about the early careers of Senegalese, Malian and Guinean bands - and I'm saying, 'so where did you hear that?' and the answer's always 'Cob Records'. MG
  16. Never seen this Mad Lads sleeve before. I love it! MG
  17. That Farmer band also recorded 'PhD' for Contemporary. Farmer, HJordan, Burrell, WIlliams, Reid, Smitty Smiff. I never got sround to getting 'Blame it on my youth', but I got 'PhD' - very nice album. I've also got, and ADORE 'Blue Head' - Fathead and Clifford live; done in 89 at Riverside Park Arts Festival, with Ted Dunbar, Buddy Montgomery, Todd Coolman and Smitty. Jordan has an absolutely cavernous sound on this one which flattened me. MG
  18. Oh, I see. I get thirty or so when I go on first, but I read most threads. I guess you ain't interested in album sleeves with pics of animals etc MG
  19. Fats Domino - Complete Imperial singles vols 1-5 1950-1964 - Imperial (Ace) A wonderfully joyful set! MG
