Today, we have been coasting west Lawrence Marable & James Clay - Tenorman - Jazz West (Fresh Sound) Leroy Vinnegar - Leroy walks again - Contemporary (Vogue UK) Then back to Newark Larry Young - Contrasts - BN (Liberty Van Gelder) (Must dig that Randy Weston out - long time since I played it.) MG -
I didn't know he was still around. What a lot of music, jazz chops or chitlins stew, who cares? RIP Mr Baker. MG

That is correct! I overheard this CD in Prospero's Books in Kansas City, a small, independently owned used book store, and asked the owner if I could buy his copy. He had a whole stack of them behind the counter. Egad!!! Don't ya just love stumbling over stuff like this? I love it when that happens!!! I do love situations like that. If there are no more physical music and book stores some day, there will be no way for things like that to happen Yes there will - the entire world will take up Blindfold tests!!!!! I hope Jim has this patented MG

I can see I'll have to persuade my missus to use the widget when she buys dog food, as well. MG

Yes, they're at the end of the Swingtime material. Looks like a good one to get. I vaguely recognise the name Bill Samuels , but can't place him? DOing a Google search brings up some politico all the time. MG -
Early Sun. Ra brings many rewards! I actually own that record...but obviously don't know it as well as I should. Can you feel more like a dumbass than I do right now? I sure hope not! Me too!!!! Oh well. MG

I wish I hadn't ditched my 45 of the Coasters' ''Tain't nothin' to me', which featured Speedo. The guy did good. RIP. MG

Ah, now Mike has posted the Tumbao CD, I see I have most of this in the Machito Proper Box. Great stuff! I wondered why Bebop didn't take over the world when I heard it for the first time. MG -

A bunch of LPs from PeteB turned up this morning. What with water being intermittently cut off for the last couple of days, I only just managed to get to hear them now. Various Artists - Live at the Apollo 1944-1947 - Everybody's Phew! Some cracking playing from a bunch of great big bands, and even the Duke and Basie are overshadowed by Erskine Hawkins! Erskine Hawkins - Swingin' in Harlem - Vocalion (Tax, Sweden) Very nice early sessions from 1936-38. Never heard any of this stuff before. Lionel Hampton & his orchestra - 1948 - Alamac Live broadcast stuff with the band veering towards, and sometimes leaping into, bebop. Fats Navarro & Benny Bailey to blame Arnett Cobb - Arnett Cobb is back - Progressive Every bit as good as you think it should be. MG -
What music did you buy today?
