  1. It's because, when Jim put in the new system, the database lost the details of what our last posts read were. So, if you haven't looked at a thread since the changeover, it'll take you to the first post. It's OK once you've started re-reading a thread since the changeover. MG Actually not, MG. This happens to me with threads I've viewed multiple times since the board change. Not only that, it sometimes happens with threads that I've viewed earlier that same day. Maybe I'll eventually see some sort of pattern to it, but not yet. I don't get it - that's the pattern I've been seeing all the time. MG
  2. I quite like them but I'm not greatly enamoured of Abercrombie's impressions of Hendrix. I think a different guitarist would have been more enjoyable for me. There's lots of Dr Lonnie that I greatly prefer. But props to Lonnie for doing this. MG
  3. What is this material like? Do you get 8 concerts all featuring substantially the same cuts? No price or availability details on Amazon UK yet. MG
  4. Horny Blowsit Jim Horn Paul Horn
  5. Wintersway posted this earlier in the "what are you listening to" thread. I went, "Uhhhh..." MG
  6. Ben Warris Jimmy Jewel Neil Diamond
  7. Just found another John Young session I'd forgotten about. T-Bone Walker recorded in Chicago for Atlantic on 21 April 1955 and the band was Goon Gardner, Eddie Chamblee, McKinley Easton, Young, Ransome Knowling and Leroy Jackson. Real nice band. The material is on the album "T-bone Blues". MG
  8. For the best of birthdays, listen to All the best MG
  9. Actually, I like his version of "By the time I get to Phoenix", as well as the rest of the album. It's one of my favourite Mances. Funny - I was playing them a few days ago. MG
  10. Never heard of that one. Interesting. MG
  11. It's a LOT cheaper if you book all your lodges yourself and organise your own car hire. That's what my wife does. She and her friend have complete flexibility in planning the trips. (Mind you - the road along the Caprivi Strip from Nam to Victoria Falls is the most dreadful she's ever driven on.) MG
  12. Two good 'uns in one day! Damn me! Mention should be made of Jimmy McGriff's classic "I got a woman", on which he played drums. Also Freddie Roach's "Soul book". RIP Jackie. MG
  13. Did he write that? I knew he wrote "Detour ahead". I can't see anything wrong with "Meet the Flintstones" - it's what it is. MG
  14. Katie Bell Nubin - Soul, soul searching - Verve (with the Dizzy Gillespie band - Mance & Moody are both very good on this) Della Reese - Live - ABC (HMV) (Herb Ellis was excellent on this - paticularly on "Driftin' blues" - RIP Herb) MG
  15. Some people find it soothing....like Mary Jane here, who simply adores the midgets! Goodness, 1936! Now THAT'S something to pull the economy out of a Depression The dress looks to me somewhat earlier, though I'm no expert. MG
  16. Where was that, John? MG It was taken in the Hluhlewe Game Reserve, South Africa. SA is a fabulous place for a holiday. The wildlife is unbelievable. Yes - my wife has been many times - is going again in August, September and October. I don't think she has been to Hluhlewe, though. Nearest I've been is Namibia - Etosha and a couple of other wildlife places, with her. Ten days of wildlife is too much for me, but she can't get enough of it. MG
  17. Clyde Hart Clyde McPhatter Clyde Ankle
  18. Not that I was a great fan, but I'll play "Della Reese live" later. RIP. MG

  20. Otis Rush - So many roads - Delmark/Trio MG
  21. Played this last night and thought, "AHA!!!" MG
  22. That one's a favorite of a lot of people , including me , though it might have to share the title with Memphis To New York Spirit . My favorite would be a tie between The Certain Feeling and Let 'Em Roll. The way I feel MG
  23. Yes, that and the first half of disc 3 are the reasons I bought the box. The rest is of very little interest to me. MG
