  1. Indeed! We're about fifty feet below the top of a valley ridge. Our last place was on the summit of a hill. MG

  5. Yes, Jug's SOUND on that is mostly as great as it ever was. And particularly on "Play me". "Chicago breakdown" on that LP is brilleroonies! His performance of "My way" is terribly OTT, however - and Jug's sound is very strained, it seems to me. But I guess the tune DESERVES that kind of treatment. But for sheer power of Jugsound, from that period, there's nothing more overwhelming than the title track from "Free again" - one of my all time favourite tenor solos. Bobby Bryant's arrangements for this LP are, in my view, a bit stiff, however. MG
  6. Yes, just listened to all three trax and you're correct. I knew there was some kind of rip-off on that LP This is what Dan Morgentern has to say about "Love dance" in the sleeve notes to the Woody Shaw. Apart from the fact that Ramon's album is by a septet (though a couple of bods may have sat out for this track), this seems to nail it. MG
  7. Aha! I can't swear to this, I'll listen to them all later, but I think the tune is FURTHER duplicated on Art Blakey's LP "Child's dance" (I think it's the title track). And the personnel on that album includes Woody and Ramon! MG
  8. Am I late yet? What day is it there? Have a good one, Kenny! MG
  9. We call it "Hokey-cokey" over here. Glad you're not too bad Berigan. Vote for socialised medecine! MG PS - it's really a drag to see you guys - who I guess are all not badly off to avoid buying CDs - really worrying about the costs of medical treatment. Mucho sympathy.

  19. Damn. MG, when I saw you had posted in this thread, I was hoping to read your ecstatic review of the collected works of Winston Churchill. Guy WSC is not terribly well thought of among left wingers, particularly in this area - Tonypandy is only just over the hill from Tonyrefail. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonypandy_Riot MG

  21. I picked up on that one, too. But it's hellish expensive from Amazon.uk - even from the sellers. So I thought I'd get the library to get one. But I think I really want one of my own. Where did you get yours NS? MG I checked mine out from the library. Ah... MG
