  1. I thought you were going to say that it was almost, but not quite, exactly unlike tea. Which is what I'm just going to brew up. I'll be glad when the Darjeeling is finished. MG
  2. Interesting article. Thanks Alot Aloc MG
  3. Yuck ! Hate those high humidities.. Around 20C and fairly clear skies over here - high pressure system from Africa, the usual Summer conditions. A bit of stability after the recent deluge. No complaints today:) MG
  4. Onto the last box of the day Wynonie "Mr Blues" Harris - Rockin' the blues - Proper discs 1-4 MG
  5. Yeah, wholemeal bread, brown rice. Pop is yukky anyway. Oily fish is best - salmon, sardines, pilchards etc - you may prefer those. I used to take sugar in tea and coffee but cut that out in the eighties - a grain at a time. MG
  6. I don't do ANY exercise I can avoid - never have (so 63's not a good time to start). Strolling - NOT vigorous walking - to Tonyrefail (25 mins), if the weather's nice and I have some reason to go. 'Course, if I have some vigorous African music on the walkman... (PS and I get the bus back, because it's almost all uphill and the bus is free.) I'm about half a stone overweight for my height, which I'm comfortable with. MG
  7. Doing boxes today Red Allen with Red Nichols on the cover - Quadromania discs 1-4 MG

MG
  9. Yes. Oh, and I got that album FOR Bryant, not Griffin. I really like Paul Bryant's playing, though his PJ and Riverside appearances don't quite do him justice. You have to find his two Fantasy LPs to get him at his best. (And you also get some superb Plas Johnson on those.) This is a superb set. I had all of it except "Groovin' blue" on LP before I bought it, and "Katanga on CD as well, but wasn't deterred from getting the Mosaic. Decades of wonderful entertainment in this stuff. MG thank you! seems like they forgot another volume in the Legends of Acid Jazz Series... No, they didn't forget. I wrote to Fantasy about a decade ago and suggested the release of these two, which would fit OK onto one CD, but they replied that they didn't want to release it, thanks. MG Part of me understands their decision in that few people knew or remember Paul Bryant. But with Plas getting so much solo space, they certainly could have promoted by referencing the "Pink Panther Saxophonist". I only wish that my copies of his Fantasy albums were a lot cleaner than they are. Me too - I have a decent clean copy of "Somethin's happenin'" - a UK mono pressing. But my copy of "Groove time" is a home tape. I really NEEDED that double CD! MG
  10. Intrigued by that item Any idea what's on it? Me too!!! Also, I'm glad to see Afrique's "Soul makossa" in there. MG
  11. I guess spag is spaghetti, but what's bog? Bolognese (with apols to Porcy) MG
  12. Peter Burton Desmond Llewelyn Geoffrey Bayldon
  13. Started off this morning with Kid Ory - Mahogany Hall stomp - Quadromania discs 1-4 now on to Joe Turner - Shout rattle & roll - Proper discs 1-4 MG
  14. Breakfast is very important in my view. You've got to get enough in you to keep your blood sugar up to get you through to lunch. Before I started having proper breakfasts, I had to get a Danish at 9.30. The other important thing in my diet is roughage. For breakfast, I have a third of a litre of squeezed orange juice. A bowl of muesli from Wally's delicatessen (they make up their own with wheat flake, two different kinds of oats, raisins, chopped dates, Brazils and roasted hazelnuts) with skimmed milk. I also have wholemeal toast made with only wholemeal flour (make my own - most wholemeal bread is half white flour) and reduced sugar marmalade (66% fruit), and a cup of tea. That's probably the most expensive meal I have - the OJ is about $4 a litre, muesli is about $13 for 2 kilos, and the marmalade is dear, too, though I suspect my bread may be cheaper than shop bought. I usually only have a salami or cold meat sandwich for lunch - I really like my bread - with some soup. Nowadays, I have a lot of salads in the evening, with stuff like sardines, tuna, chicken or whatever. But we also have spag bog, and a curry once a week. My wife recently bought a tajine. Tajines are North African cookware, designed so that all the condensation from cooking (very slowly) is returned to the food. And you use almost no water - important in the desert. And the taste is fantastic! You can cook veg and meat together in it. MG
  15. A fine one!!! Mais oui!!! Now getting kicks from: Young Men From Memphis 'Down Home Reunion' (UA, King Japan, stereo) Another great one - I was listening to it a couple of weeks ago - same edition, as well MG
  16. Gil Scott-Heron - B movie Public Enemy - Fight the power Etoile 2000 - Boubou n'gary MG
  17. Thanks for that list Tommy T - I have a few of them already, but that could focus my ideas. I really love some of Benny's work with R&B singers of the forties, like Julia Lee. MG
  18. Erlking Earl Hagan Hagan
  19. Malcolm X The Village People Harold Z

  21. Oh this is really sad. I have "Guelwar" on tape. I've seen a number of other Sembene films. They get you. RIP MG
  22. This is sad news. The guy was only 65. I think I'll watch him in "Piano players rearely ever play together" later. RIP MG
  23. A book I want to read is Bob Porter's "Soul Jazz: Jazz in the black community 1945:1975", which was supposed to be published in November 2005, but hasn't come out yet. Here's the Amazon page for it http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/019515476...ce&n=283155 MG
