  7. I never knew that was you! Lovely album. Well done. Great story, too. Gloria Coleman greatly impressed me as a highly competent person all round. I rather suspect B3 organists have to be. MG
  8. We've gone on to Fairtrade Kenyan tea. My wife thinks it's a bit strong, so I guess we won't be having it again when the packet's finished. But I quite like it. MG
  9. I believe you - there's a bloody big dog in there. MG
  10. All three seem to be very nice people. They REALLY played at Brecon Jazz Fest in 2000. Unfortunately, they were followed by Dr Lonnie Smith with Ronnie Cuber and Peter Bernstein, who rather took the shine off the preceding set... MG In the sense that Dr Smith et al. blew away the 'competition', or had an off-day? They were certainly not having an off day. Greatest live performance I've seen in my life. No one could follow it and even playing beforehand was no picnic. MG
  11. I'm finding I'm listening to hardly any Hip Hop except Ursula, since getting her albums. MG
  12. Gerry & the Pacemakers Adrome "Acidman" MacHine Ron Levy

  18. Bo Diddley Jerome Green Ethel "Tootsie" Smith (not the organist)
  19. Oh so laid back!!! MG
  20. I've had this album - on the 18th & Vine label - for a few weeks. I know it's early yet, but it's beginning to sound like THE Soul Jazz organ release of 2007. It was recorded in September 2005; dunno what's been happening in the meantime to delay release so long, but whatever, it was worth waiting for. You get what you expect from Wilson and Purdie, with knobs on. Grant Green Jr keeps improving. And on this he does two vocals as well. And the man can sing! His treatment of the Temps "Just my imagination" is beautiful, both vocally and on guitar. The whole album has a wonderful feel to it. MG
  21. Just listened to the OJC LP - picked up three slight duff bits. So the OJC LP must have been remastered from the same tape as the CD. MG
  22. Some of the T-Bone Walker details appear to be wrong. T-Bone did two sessions for Imperial in New Orleans. 20 Mar 1953, New Orleans T-Bone, vcl, g; Dave Bartholemew, tp; Wendell Duconge, as; Lee Allen, ts; Herb Hardesty, bars; unk, p; Walter Nelson, g; Frank Fields, b; Cornelius Nelson, d; Baby Davis or Tiny Brown, voc (sounds like Davis to me). Long distance blues Got no use for you I'm still in love with you Railroad station blues 6 November 1953, New Orleans T-Bone, vcl, g; Dave Bartholemew, tp; Wendell Duconge, as; Lee Allen, ts; Herb Hardesty, bars; unk, p; Walter Nelson, g; Frank Fields, b; Cornelius Nelson, d. When the sun goes down Pony tail Wanderin' heart I'll always be in love with you These details come off the JSP box, "New Orleans guitar". On the Dutch 2CD set of the "Complete Imperial recordings 1950-1954", it's speculated that both sessions may have been recorded on 6 March. (The November date is supposed to be Los Angeles, but it sure as hell sounds like Wendell on alto sax.) MG
  23. Have a great day! And have a great year! MG
