  1. I'll give it a try after dinner. I can burn them to a CD afterwards in some format that will allow me to play them on my CD walkman, can't I? Will each take up about one CD? MG
  2. Mm, I've got "Shimmy". Don't know any of the other tracks. MG
  3. Jazzmoose, Jazzmoose - this one's for you! MG
  4. Sorry, I'm certainly technologically stooopid. MG
  5. Up here in the North east, we've had two in the last five years. On at least one other occasion it's been way beow zero. We only need a bit of a breeze off the North Sea at this time of year and it really comes in cold. Not this year though I 'm sure. Foggy and cold perhaps. Yeah, I lived in Leeds when I was a kid and we ALWAYS seemed to have white Christmases then. Oh, and wonderful summers MG

  7. Well, you could well be right there; I'm not sure. Music is a kind of funny thing, as far as I'm concerned. It isn't like thinking, which I do, and I suspect everyone else does, in words. Probably because I'm not a musician, I feel there's something like a black box in between a musician's life experiences and the sounds that come out. I don't know what goes on in there; I can just feel that connection between life and sound; how it happens is a mystery. MG
  8. We've had heavy rain for best part of a fortnight, until Wednesday. Since then, it's been bright and sunny, but BRASS MONKEYS! I broke the ice on the pond this morning at 8.00. By half past, it had frozen again. This is VERY unusual for South Wales; slap in the sights of the Gulf Stream. If it turns damp, we'll have a white Christmas. First one I've seen for decades. MG
  9. No. Just that C Parker didn't play any. MG
  10. I understand that Alvin Queen, who owns the copyright, isn't planning to issue any more Nilva LPs on CD. No doubt the Andorrans will be reissuing this in 2033. Should we start another argument about extending copyright? MG
  11. Biggus Diccus Anashtasia Ashteroid - that shtellar luminschenshe of the shilver shcreen, now known as "The face on the cutting room floor" Anastasia
  12. Postman's coming at odd times of the day, nowadays. Thought these weren't going to arrive. But here we are. First, this year’s Christmas album Some really funky stuffing in here! And the new(ish) Reuben Wilson I’ve been a bit dilatory about Savant albums this year. Tut! And there’s another new Wilson out on 9 January! Gonna be listening to a lot of Reuben Wilson next year! Finally Just listening to this now. What a tenor player! Glad I caught up at length! MG
  13. Just got this year’s Christmas album So pleased. MG
  14. I can see some truth in that. Well, putting on his argumentative hat, I think it's hubris. The creative, innovative artist is part of society. As Parker said, "you can only play what you've lived". Maybe your playing can transcend the world you've lived in in a way that most of the rest of us can't achieve, but it's still rooted in the contemporary reality - Bird did not play science fiction. Or any kind of fiction. MG
  15. But why is the crusader on the right wearing specs? MG
  16. I think Estelle Axton & Cosimo Matassa are great selections for awards. MG
  17. Is that Steve Gibson the one who was later with "The Five Red Caps"? MG
  18. Sorry to hear this, Mr B. But have a good Christmas anyway. This one interests me quite a bit. More info, please, in due course, Mr B. Aha! I've been wondering about Texier recently, and in particular, why he always has African sleeves. More info awaited anxiously. MG
  19. Bloody 'ell! Something to look for. But it seems that they're a bit hard to find. MG
  20. "Soul connection" is wonderful, too. MG

  24. And I forgot to mention, among those who seem to be bringing music together, there's Maaskool, a Wolof living in the US, who successfully integrated Mbalax, Reggae and Hip Hop in his album "Massa thiono". His version of "Voodoo child" is really something to hear! MG
