    Feb 15 RVGs

I just received this note from CDUniverse regarding BASRA. Our supplier has run out of the items flagged as "backorder". We will continue to try to get these items for you and ship them as soon as we receive them. Some backorders come in the very next day, some never come in. After 4/1/2005 backordered items will be automatically cancelled. You can cancel backorders yourself by clicking the Order Status link on our home page. Thank you for shopping at CD Universe! Should you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
  2. I placed my order with Mosaic last Thursday (2/10/2005). I ordered the Art Pepper and the Andrew Hill Selects. I thought I'd read both boxes were shipping. Now, I'm getting a feeling Mosaic isn't shipping the new Selects yet. I just can't figure this shit out. Woe is me.

    Feb 15 RVGs

I placed my order with CDUniverse early last week. My order, too, has all the RVGs marked as ready to ship except for BASRA. My CDUniverse order hasn't shipped yet.
  4. I played Styx all the time when I was in high school. I had to give up on the band when they recorded KILROY. OMG, it was a dumb album. I couldn't abide Styx anymore after the KILROY debacle. I haven't listened to the band much since the release of KILROY. When I hear Styx tunes these days, they sound, to my ears, simplistic and juvenile.

    Herbie Hancock

Thanks for the suggestion. I purchased CONTOURS when it was recently released as a Connoisseur. However, it's still in the shrink wrap. I'm thinking, now, that I should open the CD and listen to Herbie.

    Herbie Hancock

I'm in an inexplicable Herbie Hancock mood tonight. To my ears, his piano is very stylish, modern, wandering, and crisp. Herbie's piano has the swing of jazz, the meditative-like nature of new age, and the class of classical. Herbie is really talking to me this evening. I'm playing EMPYREAN ISLES as I type these words.
  7. I don't know. Iced-tea works nearly the same wonders on la lengua as beer.
  8. Oh man, Wes, that is _the_ breakfast of champions. No way am I adverse to an a.m. Tecate if it's going with that meal!Yum! It seems quite a normal practice in these parts. I mean, if you go to Denny's for breakfast, you order coffee. If you choose Maria's Cafe instead, you may order coffee, Corona or Tecate. It's especially comforting when you enjoy breakfast at Maria's in June. When you arrive at the restaurant at 9:30AM, it's already near 100 degrees outside but the food is flavorful and the beer is cold. Some of the Mexican restaurants in the area say they don't serve beer, however, you're welcome to bring your own.
  9. Albuquerque. New Mexico. This reminds me. There is a local breakfast/lunch place 'round the corner from where I live. The owners are from New Mexico. They offer Mexican breakfast/lunch foods based on family recipes they brought from New Mexico to Arizona. It's the kind of place that opens at 5AM and closes at 2PM. Mmmm... fried eggs, a tamale, beans and salsa. I'll order mine with a side of guacamole and some coffee. I know where I'm going for my Saturday morning breakfast. B-)
  10. I was in a Mexican food mood this past week. I ate in a different restaurant every evening, after work, on Tucson's south side. I enjoyed pozole one night, and a combinaton plate of enchiladas and tacos the next. I enjoyed spicey salsas, cold Tecate (with lime), and guacamole. I had some guacamole that was hot (picante), some that was tasteless, some that was mixed with too many tomatoes, some with too little cilantro, some made fresh at my table, and some that was oh so right. Every restaurant has it's own way of preparing guacamole. Some better than others but all very comforting and enjoyable. When I first arrived in Tucson, 20 years ago, I hated cilantro. It reminded me of the taste of soap (I don't know why). I've since come to really enjoy cilantro. I like the spice in all kinds of Mexican food. I like it in salsa, guacamole, and various Mexican soups. I like to sprinkle chopped cilantro all over a plate of hot Mexican food. I'm thinking I might pick a random eatery and enjoy some huevos rancheros on Sunday morning. Maybe I'll order a side of guacamole and a Tecate to wash it down. I'm getting hungry.
  11. Whoo hoo! It's Friday.
  12. You posts your words and you takes your chances.
  13. As people become more comfortable with each other... more honest and heartfelt words may be offered. This board has been in existence with many of the same posters for a couple of years. We've dealt with a war, a heated presidential election, an odd economy, a change in the hosting company, disagreements brought in from other bulletin boards, the death of some of the jazz greats, the sale of a major jazz label, Martha Stewart, Michael Jackson, and Scott Peterson. You know? I agree with b3-er. I don't notice much of anything different from how it's always been. I'm glad the posts are still flowing on a daily basis.
  14. As I posted earlier in this same thread, I believe Herman's vocals to be quite good. At times, very, very good. Woody Herman, at different moments, reminds me of a mixture of Donald Fagen and George Strait. Yeah, a strange combination but it works good magic on my ears. With the exception of a few Dixieland tracks, I have no complaint with the vocals on the Wood Herman Capitol box. I enjoy the vocals much more often that not. Even the Dixieland tracks aren't 'bad.' You know, mister, I do like those jazz vocals.
  15. I don't own the Liebman Select (yet). The Chambers is good, dependable, Blue Note style jazz. If you like Blue Note, you'll like the Chambers. It includes several tracks with John Coltrane. How can you go wrong? I adore the Dexter Gordon Select. It's some of the best Dexter I've heard. I enjoy hearing jazz in a live setting. Dexter was good in the studio. I prefer live Dex.
  16. What did I get? Something like eight or nine updates from Microsoft last night?
  17. I remember when the record number of online users wouldn't change for months. Now, the number is changing within just a few days.
  18. GROOVIN' AT SMALL'S is 'the rules' to the organ, to my ears.
  19. The jazz organ era is still cookin' in the hands of players such as Organissimo and Mike Flanigan. Some things come to an end while others start anew. It's the way of the world. I'm glad there are people who have the skill and the desire to keep the art alive. I'm still here to enjoy and appreciate the music.
  20. Nothing found via a Google News search (yet). Perhaps we're ahead of the public-knowledge-of-jazz curve on the Organissimo forum? If I remember correctly, it took several hours for the major news organizations to catch up to the Organissimo knowledge of Elvin Jones' death.
  21. My homepage is this: http://www.wunderground.com/US/AZ/Tucson.html As if it makes any difference where I live.
  22. Every time I see the Grant Green album cover I wonder if the street sign is real. I always thought, if the sign is real, it's somewhere in New York City. Probably somewhere, by chance, near the Blue Note offices. I figured the street sign would be different these days, no longer in the same style as it was then, if it existed at all. It's interesting to learn the street sign is real and is located in San Francisco. What a find! Thanks for posting the picture.
  23. The guy in the middle, a young Lyle Mays?
  24. I agree. I'd rather pay the few extra dollars and guarantee myself a 2 to 3 day delivery time shipped directly from Mosaic.
