  1. Damn you Comcast! Why will you only let some sites load. Damn you, Comcast.
  2. Get 'em while you can!
  3. D'oh! Time for a boxed set binge before they jack the price.
  4. Trying to pitch the story of how this music was rescued to NPR. The advantage there would be that the music itself could be incorporated into the report. I have some connections--I might be able to pitch it to some indie producers that routinely get items on national shows. It has worked in the past...
  5. Welcome! And vice versa, some of us would like to know more about your interest in Hindi and Urdu musics! [Resources, recordings, etc.]
  6. Not a really a compilation since the material was all from one session. Shame they didn't include more of the remaining tracks - the disc is only 51 minutes, but wonderful stuff anyway. Yeah, they could have at least filled up the running time on the disc. I can see not including everything if it would have spilled over onto a second disc, but why not fill one up all of the way? Am I asking record companies to make sense... Excellent stuff, agreed. There is something about the sparer playing that make it more haunting.
  7. Just got the Skip James comp on Biograph. After doing the online banking thing, it appears that they charged me $4.99 for the 4 disc Chess Blues box set. sweeeet.
  8. That is what I was going to speculate.
  9. No, this was. edit: forgot to add - "what a piece of shitte".
  10. This movie was fucking awful. The wife and I went to see it with my sister, who is somewhat of a film buff. I have never considered walking out of a movie before--I would have if we weren't watching it with someone else. Granted, I have no point of reference with this, having not read any of the novels nor anything in that genre. It was the cinematic equivalent of John Zorn blowing altissimo for two hours and four minutes. The girls were fetching, but I can see that in other movies. Worst movie ever.
  11. Lemon in most things other than pie reminds me too much of Lemon Pledge.
  12. Same here. I was hoping for harder on the 1s. I much prefer the Ghana Soundz comps to this.
  13. Yeah, Comcast here, too. All as I was desparately looking for some tickets on line. Damn it!
  14. That's the spirit!

    Funny Rat

I pop in on this thread now and again, so I don't know if this has been mentioned before. If you go to the Fennesz website you will find almost an entire performance for download of Fennesz on computer, guitar & piano, BJ Nilsen on computer, and Z'ev on bass drum. It is quite good! Never heard Fennesz on piano before...
  16. Mine too! I was a student from '76-'80. How about you? A bit later, 1996-2000. UNI-Dome!
  17. This reminds me of the smallest pencil sketch that was part of the permanent art collection at the University of Northern Iowa [my alma mater - Go Panthers!]. It was about the size of a CD cover. I remember being excited to see it because it was sketched by Rembrandt. One of my music history professors was instrumental in unearthing a previously unknown and unpublished Mozart opera. It would seem to me that people would want to see both of these items. They were created by masters of their art, but were not likely meant for public consumption as they now exist. Did that professor look at that opera and say "Well, Wolfgang did not have it published, so lets just let that sucker languish in the bowels of some archive forever." Is it okay for these works to come to light because the artists themselves are dead? Has the immediacy of recording technology and the fortunate longevity of the artists being discussed make it different? Is it okay to publish every last alternate take and false start of Charlie Parker's Verve and Clef sessions but not Roscoe Mitchell? Where is the difference? When does the artist's vision and control become revisionist? When Zappa re-records drum parts on some of his records upon re-release? When Illinois Jacquet leaves a side or two off of the Mosaic set? Can I ask any more questions?
  18. But is the box photo intact?
  19. <--- No one has ever mistaken me for a Scotsman.
  20. The miles 67 material falls out of reach for me AGAIN. Perhaps I wasn't ever meant to hear it...
  21. When I first glanced at the thread title, I thought that this was going to be a link to a Buddy Rich-styled rant or some such thing. "Clams!"
  22. Me too! I need to eat more vegetables...
  23. I talked to Dr. Rat on the phone once. That is a short list, and not technically meeting in person, actually. Oh, and "little high people" is my man from way back. I have met him in person.
  24. Weren't many of those Nationals painted with Hawaiian themes?
