Friends, I would like to reitirate my recommendation for this one - very interestign music (check the samples out) - and a part of the $5 sale. It's really amazing how Indians adapt Western instruments to their traditional music at the same time advancing the technique on the instrument. I will get Prasant's other CDs as well. ← I will check him out, D.D., thanks. You are probably aware that Rudresh Mahanthappa has been touring with Kadri Gopalanth, the Carnatic saxophone legend - everyone seems to agree, and he told me that a recording of this project will come out next, though I forgot to ask when, so we'll have to wait and see. ← This kid is fantastic. His articulation and fleet belie his age. Dig this! Solo with tanpura.
  3. Dude, it is NICE. How you been?
  4. That says it right there. Some folks insist that you can't even think about using the cables that come with a component, and other listen on a $29 pair of headphones. All personal preference and priority. Good luck with it. Cycling has been a hobby all of my years.
  5. If yer lucky, you'll get the rest of it, too!
  6. What do y'alls make of this one? Recommended?
  7. I haven't heard any of these shows to featured on the box. Are they as magical as they say? This is my favorite period of the Dead, the swirling psychedelic and jam-heavy version of the band. Dark Star holds a special place in my heart, and I imagine that these are some killers. So, who has heard the tapes? Highlights?
  8. Tickets for the Austin performance go on sale tomorrow for $27. It seems a little less special with the guy touring, now. Not that it is bad, or that he is selling out or anything. But to go that many years with NOTHING at all but the records to selling $27 concert tix takes something away from the whole mystique. I will say, that it is a selfish mystique, however. More power to Mr. Sterling Smith...
  9. I kinda like that "Daughters" song on the radio. People give this guy a lot of grief, but the truth is, he is many times more talented than most of what gets any amount of top 40 airplay.
  10. All that and you didn't even have to leave the house. I have had pizzas take longer
  11. Columbia's website said "no." It says that instead of combining the two club's catalog's, only bmg's catalog will be available. ← Damn, I was hoping that BMG would now offer Miles' Plugged Nickel set...
  12. Those few seconds are worth living for, IMO.
  13. Does that include taking in multiple used copies after the inital hype dies out, and the cut-outs after it goes out-of-print?
  14. Ah, cover art doesn't matter anyway.
  15. Call me silly, but I have had the same idea before. If I won the lottery or something, I would quit my job and start up the most bad-ass reissue label.
  16. Snakes is fine. Just keep the clowns, monkeys, and bees away from me.
  17. WTF? Stop confession' and start buyin'!
  18. $750? WTF?
  19. There is no denying the power of that track. I love how you can hear Blakey in the background, hollering and hooting. Grant is in fine form, as is Art. Five stars.
  20. Damn, that is actually what I like about John Bonham.
  21. One of the most interesting durmmers I have had a chance to see was Han Bennink. He actually lit a paper bag on fire on his drums and played it all the while. Odd, entertaining and musical.
