  1. I don't know, wes.......they usually have cold Old Milwaukee at those reunions........ You must have gone to some high-class high school, man...
  2. Damn! It is like they held back on releasing that until the price went up. Ok, I will cut the kvetching now. B-)
  3. My last box of $4.99 discs arrived last night. $5.99 just won't seem the same...
  4. For my vote on Wes: Hands f'ing down. There is so much joy and bounce in that title cut that I get happy each time I lay the needle on the wax. I am gonna have to put that on later...
  5. I would agree, partially because this was the first Monk record I ever purchased. That alone puts me at a disadvantage. Oh the fidelity on there!
  6. Ahhhhhh...lovely.
  7. That is some discovery. It is as if Jandek sang standards.
  8. I love the band after the guitar army came on board, but I do have a soft spot for Ndugu's drumming. It is a different beat than the wide open stomp of Al Foster or the tight mathematics of DeJohnette. I wish Bartz would have stayed on board longer with the band.
  9. You could say that, yes.
  10. me too! The Temiz groove in sections makes this a keeper for me.
  11. I think you should have added another variable, like the price of gas or lobsters or something.
  12. It seems to be an unusually long dry spell for them. There are so many CDs that I would love to have [mainly RVGs and Conns] that I don't buy at retail, because I will feel burned when it comes to the club for cheap.
  13. That is odd. Yesterday afternoon, I ordered six discs, and last night I ordered two more. Everything was fine then. Now, I have ZIP in my queue. Could it have something to do with the subscription changes coming up?
  14. I just last week downloaded Dig Dug on my mobile phone. Love it!
  15. I remember many bleary-eyed nights playing tag-team Yar's Revenge. That shit was hi-tech back then.
  16. It might have been how the fabric lays -- could be the same cut of suit, but repeated wear has allowed the fabric to fall in a natural plane. Say what you will about Bag's tie, he and Percy are at least following the rules for a three-button jacket: sometimes, always, never [top-to-bottom, that is.] Can't tell for Lewis and Connie.
  17. I was at a conference where the founder of Naxos, Klaus Heymann, spoke of this matter. Part of their deal is that they own the rights to the recordings out right. A rare arrangement, but it seems like they are one of the few making a go of it in the mainstream classical CD market. During a discussion of the pain of maintaining proper broadcast playlists for the RIAA, and the ridiculous rules around it, Klaus pipes up and says "I will waive the rights for this right now. The whole catalog." The one he was referring to was the rule of not being able to play more that three cuts from any one album or artist within a set period of time. Foolish laws, IMO.
  18. This is far and away the most listened-to Mosaic set on my shelves. The trio stuff with Jim Hall, in all of its configurations [be it Pena on bass, or Brookmeyer on piano/v tbn] has a reserved energy and exuberance all its own. My favorite of the lot is "Western Suite." I even like some of the overdubbed stuff.
  19. Do the folks that avoid the grey market labels avoid promo-marked items as well?

  21. Doesn't iTunes operate primarily with the AAC format? This otherwise smells like the tax levied on blank cassettes, DATs, et al. That rate seems a bit too steep to be taken seriously...

Would that be a quiet storm?
