  1. True Detective. Amazing. House Of Cards season two, up to episode five. Great stuff. Although it's deviated greatly from the original it's more than holding it's own with some fine twisty storytelling. Loved the nod to the famous Ian Richardson dastardly deed scene. Robin Wright is making her presence felt, she's terrific.
  2. More heavy snow.
  3. Snowing again, cold.
  4. True Detective episode 4 Intense isn't the word. The last ten minutes were really incredible with an almost seven minute single take none cut action sequence that had me literally on the edge of my seat. As gripping as the best bits of Breaking Bad. Matthew McConaughey has made a truly spectacular career turn round. :tup
  5. Catching up on season 8 & 9 of Bones. The missus is a big fan.
  6. Heavy snow.
  7. The Complete Blue Note Blue Mitchell Sessions (1963-67) Discs 1 & 2
  8. Well, I've only seen him in three films - Capote, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead and The Master - but he was pretty remarkable in all. Ironic that in the second he played a wealthy and apparently successful man who was secretly addicted to heroin. You've never seen The Big Lebowski? I thought that was required for board membership at one time... That will not stand, man! I've seen The Big Lebowski so many times at one time I could practically recite the dialogue for the whole movie from memory without interruption. Indeed an iconic film, Bill. That's first on your viewing list ! Take it you haven't seen Magnolia or Boogie Nights either.

  15. Tokyo is having one of the mildest winters I can remember with blue skies almost every day. We've hardly used the heating except in the early morning and late at night. 13C at the moment.
  16. For an athiest, visiting old Buddhist temples. There's something genuinely peaceful and calming going on but I don't know what it is.
  17. T Bone Walker Disc 6 H.R.S. Disc 1
  18. Takahata Fudo San A Zen Buddhist temple I visited this morning. The missus and I made a mini 'pilgrimage' of 88 tiny mountain shrines.
  19. Purely anecdotal but I've heard of quite a few people here who have gone back to mobile/cell phones. The initial appeal of smart phones has faded and they've realised that they are paying through the nose for features they don't often use. Personally I still use a regular mobile, but have a tablet , which was a gift , in addition to my regular desktop and laptop.
  20. I was 10 or 11 when I first heard Bye Bye Love. Their singles had an enormous influence on forming my musical tastes, and those of a whole generation of young British kids. RIP and thanks for all the wonderful songs.
  21. About 8C, clear skies. This winter has been great so far, fine almost everyday and not very cold.
  22. I haven't had any error messages but sometimes opening threads has been very slow.
