What if I PM you the answers???

Jim, where's that photo from in your profile?

"Feet Music" - from In All Languages (1987) -- Ornette -
Post the answers to your BFT and I'll buy you a copy! (no harm meant, hionestly!) ← If you only knew what I had going on these days, you'd understand. And I've got so many irons in the fire, you wouldn't believe it. (For instance, I haven't had dinner anytime before 9pm or even 10pm about 4 or 5 nights a week -- for about the last month.) How long's that offer good for, Sangry?? I'm sure I'll be posting the answers by the end of the year (knock on wood).

Conan giving show to U2 today, whole show...
Rooster_Ties replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Hard to imagine Kissinger being the only guest on Conan, but I suppose stranger things have happened before. -
Man, I sure hope you guys aren't in the "Where are they now?" file!!

Took too long to post the details, but indeed, we do have a winner.

OK, was it from this??? (enormo-huge album cover provided down below.) Can't find sound-samples from the entire soundtrack album, but there was one actual "hit", and it can be found on Candy Dulfer's "Greatest Hits" album. Go HERE and play the sample for track #3, which is the tune called "Lily Was Here". In fact, THIS LINK might do just that. (I provided the Windows Media link, others available from the Amazon page.) Let it play for the full 60 seconds - the guitar and sax don't come in until nearly the 30-second mark. I think we have a winner.
-
No idea if this fits the bill, but another slightly "popular" sax player from that time was Candy Dulfer. What, you want a few pictures of her?? Oh, if you insist... Have no idea what the recording was (maybe even something from a movie soundtrack), but Dulfer and Dave Stewart (the guitar guy from The Eurythmics) recorded together at least once in the early to mid 90's. When I was in college (and working as a DJ in college radio, and also for a very small-town, tiny-market top-40 station) I remember seeing promo CD's of the Dulfer/Stewart thing (which I never heard). Maybe I can find something about it on-line, and perhaps a sound-clip or two. The instrumentation would be right -- guitar and sax -- so this could actually be it, perhaps.

I'm starting my own Hand Bell choir!!
Rooster_Ties replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Maybe as a prayer response. -
Hi everyone!! In addition to starting a brand new job a couple weeks ago (more on that later), and taking on some major time-intensive leadership responsibilities in another volunteer organization a couple months ago (more on that later), my wife and I are starting a brand new intergenerational hand-bell choir in our church!! We had our very first rehearsal last week, and today we are prepping for this week's rehearsal, which is in a couple days (Wednesday). Anyone have any good suggestions for a quick, on-line “one-page” resource for general music notation?? Something for beginners. You know, something I could print out, and give to the folks in our bell-choir who don't read music -- which is almost everyone in the group (yikes!!). The good thing is that hand-bells don't require you to read every note on the page -- just your assigned notes (which is usually just two notes in the scale, plus their associated accidentals -- so usually just three or four bells (notes) total, per person). The group will probably be about 15-20 ringers, including about 5 kids (roughly ages 9-13). The kids don’t know how to ring, but neither do their parents (who are also playing in the group) – so the playing ground is pretty much level for everyone. After we play some very simple Christmas music in December, I’m looking at trying to arrange some music that one probably never hears on hand-bells, like maybe some Monk(!), and even Jimi Hendrix’ "Little Wing"(!!!). Did I mention that the hand-bell choir is in a Unitarian church?? My theory is that we can play anything on hand-bells, and it’ll sound “churchy”.

Great date, one of my favorites of all of Lee's catalog. The version of Billy Harper's "Capra Black" is killin'!!!

Milt Ward (trumpet) - "and Virgo Spectrum" - circa 1976

Another copy came and went on eBay about a week ago. Had a reserve that wasn't met with a high bid of $56.00 Here's the link... -
I'll try to get down to the Blue Room tomorrow (Monday) night, but it'll be at least 9pm before I can get down there (got a meeting from 7:30 to 8:30, and it'll probably go until 9pm). Or we could maybe hook-up Tuesday night after 8pm (I gots a meeting from 7pm-8pm). Not sure what decent jazz (if any) is happening on a Tuesday night in this town, but perhaps Spontoonious can chime in with a suggestion. PS: I look like one of the guys in this pic -- the one that doesn't look like Andrew Hill.

An unfortunate choice of words for this particular thread... ← Crap. It was an absolutely unintended choice of words, I swear. So, I gather then, there was some question about the circumstances of the subway accident?? Is there some backstory here that I'm missing??

44? Damn, I never did the math before. I guess I always thought he was much closer to 50, or maybe even a bit past 50 when he died. 44's really young, in terms of his potentially having had 20 or 30 more great musical years ahead of him. When push really comes to shove, Woody just might be my all-time-favorite horn player ever.

organissimo does Chicago!!! Tues Oct 18th
Rooster_Ties replied to GregN's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
And on that note... Jim, Joe, and Randy --- when you guys get a gig here in Kansas City, I will personally ask and get 40 people in the house for you that night. I can already think of 20 people right off the top of my head. -

Rooster_Ties replied to GregN's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
PS: About 10 years ago, I got almost 30 friends of mine to all go to a chamber music concert of entirely of the music of Charles Ives. (It helped that I bought them all their tickets on my own dime -- which I did in lieu of a donation to the organization sponsoring the concert.) SO, if I can personally get 30 people to go hear a whole two hours of Charles Ives(!!!) -- then the Chicago folks on this board damn well better be able to get 50 people in the house for a band like Organissimo. -

And then get their friends to invite THEIR friends. Seriously. -

Rooster_Ties replied to GregN's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Next thing is for the Chicago folks to organize people to go to the show -- and by the busload. Seriously, if the show is a sell-out, then that'll travel by word-of-mouth, and help our boys get some further gigs, both around Chicago, and maybe elsewhere. Invite your co-workers, your golf buddies, the people in your church, even your idiot brother-in-law who you otherwise hate spending time with during the holidays. Whatever it takes - we need to fill the house that night. Step to it!!! -
Which 24??

God I hope this story is overblown right now!!!
Rooster_Ties replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Holy fuck, they're reporting on CNN (live, haven't looked on CNN.com yet), that after only letting 5,000 people into the Astro Dome -- that they are now turning people away, and sending the busses elsewhere (though no specific "elsewhere" appears to have been designated, far as anyone can tell at this point). Every media report I've seen says that they were planning to house something like 20,000 people in the Astro Dome. And they barely have 5,000 -- and now the "No Vacancy" sign is already out??? WTF!!!!!??????????? Edit: From CNN.com (no story yet, just this)... > BREAKING NEWS Officials at the Astrodome in Houston, Texas, say the facility is full and cannot accept any more New Orleans hurricane refugees.
