  1. CAPS LOCK ON, ARIC. CAPS LOCK ON!!!!!
  2. Wow!!! LOTS of cool stuff in there. Here's but one that caught my eye...
  3. I've listened to the third disc a much or more than any of the rest in this set. (Disk #3 is an especially good listen while driving, with it cranked really loud!!) And while I agree with Sangry's comments, it's still some pretty damn exciting "sit on the edge of your seat" music. Yeah, it doesn't all hang together, nice and pretty. And most of the heads are a mess. But most of the soloists really go for broke -- Woody Shaw especially (with some of THE most "raw" lines Woody ever played ), and Sam Rivers too (especially those on tenor). Disc #3. It's a mess. A big, fat, nasty, glorious mess. I'd buy more just like it without reservation. B-)
  4. Just picked this up, and am enjoying it quite a bit... (couldn't link, see attachment below) Death Cab For Cutie "the john byrd e.p." (about 40 minutes) Featuring 7 live tracks taken from the 2004 spring 'transatlanticism' tour. Link: Only available from independent stores. B-)
  5. Hey, street cred doesn't develop overnight, you know. And it doesn't grow on trees either. I'm just saying -- everybody's gotta start somewhere. I mean, maybe he won't end up bein' the next Eminem. But he sure as hell won't, if he doesn't at least try. Word.
  6. I've got a flyer I picked up when I saw it, with some details about the film. No tellin' if I can find it, but I'll keep my eyes out for it. This really was an amazing film, and I too am thrilled they've gotten the legal stuff figured out for broadcast, and hopefully for a DVD too.
  7. Wouldn't be official without this... Have a happy, happy birthday!!!!!
  8. I saw this sometime in late 2003 as part of a film festival here in Kansas City --- and it was wonderful. Don't miss it!!
  9. 441 introduces Test of Time Records More typical press-release type jibber-jabber. Sounds like much of the entire East Wind catalog will see the light of day again, if I'm reading the quote above the right way. Here's the complete East Wind catalog, FWIW: CLICK HERE
  10. People who are REALLY self-centered, can ignore everyone's posts --- 'cept their own!!!
  11. One of THE very best "previously unreleased" takes I've heard in years. Makes me wish Herbie had recorded a solo-piano album back in the 60's -- might have been very interesting.
  12. Thanks Jim, for all your hard work maintaining the board!! You mentioned that you "bought" the new software. Might we ask how much that cost?? Or, are board-donations at least mostly covering your expenses related to this place a bunch of us call home?? Speaking of which, I was just thinking about hitting the old "Donate" button again myself. Thanks again Jim!!
  13. Perhaps (and in your case, Chuck, more likely "probably"), but at least the recordings are available at all. (The glass is half full vs. half empty.) I've always thought of Rathaus as being a bit like Mahler on steroids (or at least Rathaus' first symphony, anyway). Or if someone has a better analogy, I'm all ears.
  14. Anybody already have the RVG of "Speak Like A Child"?? Just curious if there's anything interesting in the suplemental liner-notes. Planning to get one myself, one of these days -- just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Probably my all-time favorite Herbie BN date.
  15. Just released, and I can't wait to hear them. Maybe (probably?) the first time either one has been on CD. His earlier Symphony #1 (op. 5), is an absolute winner in my book...
  16. b3-er? I don't think he's posting here anymore.... Didn't you all hear the news?? -- b3-er got banned.
  17. All I'm saying is that 95% of the people who post in the Politics forum aren't causing any problems. Why punish them, by taking away the forum completely -- because 5% of the people can't behave there. (And that 5% -- we're only talking a very small handful of people, probably 5 at most, maybe even just two or three.) Limit access to the 95% who can behave, and I'm sure probably half of the following list of people (these are the top-50 posters), will be there -- and behaving well, like usual.
  18. I disagree, Dan. I do think this really is a big deal. This board is an extension of the band's web-site. Thus, I completely understand Jim wanting to limit what goes on here, because of that association. "Lurkers" are potential "customers". They lurk a bit, and some eventually join and contribute ("Free For All" is a good example -- he lurked on the old BNBB for a couple years, and then lurked here for several months, until I baited him into joining finally ). Or even the lurkers who don't ever join -- maybe they listen to some sample tunes by the band, and buy the band's CD(s). The point is that Jim would rather not have the Politics forum be one of the primary things associated with this board, and thus with the band. That's great!! I support him on this 100%. All I ask is for someplace on the board where those of us who are interested in Politics and world events (which usually have some political angle), can go and discuss those things. It doesn't have to be visible to lurkers, and it needn't even be visible to members, unless and until they "opt in". And that way, if someone causes trouble in the Politics forum, they can have their access to that area removed, without totally being banned from the board. And if they then polute the rest of the board with political discussion/arguments, then they can be banned completely. Sounds like the perfect solution to me. Edit: And then people who don't want to see the Politics forum at all, don't ever have to see it.
  19. I wouldn't want to discuss politics, on a board that only discusses politics.
  20. I think this is one of the strongest of the Miles box sets, certainly on par with the best of the bunch. The only tunes I find lacking are the slow tunes with/by Hermeto Pascoal on disc #4. "Willie Nelson" works quite well for me too - and I've also listened to all six takes, back to back, on a number of occasions. Good music to have on when making dinner, or folding laundry.
  21. Thanks, thanks, thanks!!!!! Edit: Seriously, thanks Jim. MUCH appreciated.
