  1. Not I, but I'd love to hear the disc (or is it two?) from the "late" mid-70's. You know, if I could find a copy of this set for something reasonable (say $100 or less), I'd be tempted. Looking at completed auctions on eBay, it appears the going 'street value' for used copies of this set range from about $115 to $145 (plus or minus). One went for $99, but that was with a "buy it now" -- pretty good deal. Anybody else have this?? Spontoon, didn't you mention something about this one time?? - like maybe you had it, or were eyeing one at one time??
  2. Where'd you find one, Spontoonie?? If you happen to have it on disc, I'd love to borrow it sometime. Sounds like something that'd be very interesting, especially with Stanko.
  3. Is it too late to vote for La Toya London?? Seriously, after she got voted off - I gave up on American Idol for this season. Went cold turkey, and haven't watched a bit of it since then.
  4. The lower the number, the less it's probably worth. In your case, I'd say #16 is barely worth $20, but cuz I'm such a nice guy -- I'll give you $50 for it.
  5. That's a GREAT idea! Seriously, maybe not a half-bad idea. When the time is right, of course, and if he shows some interest in music. Couldn't hurt to put a pair of sticks in his hands (when he's old enough, of course), along with a pair of sticks in Daddy's hands too. Worst case: it could be a lot of fun!! - for both you and your boy!! Best case: we'll eventually have another someone to eventually help fill Elvin's huge shoes. Or many something in between.
  6. I think it's definitely worth investigating, including taking your son to a qualified specialist. But (if at all possible), it would be good to get a second opinion, especially before any prescriptions are started for him. I knew someone several years ago, who was an adult who suffered from ADHD, and she was able to function quite a bit better because of the medication(s) she took to control things. (I think she had a young son who also had ADHD, if I remember right, and meds helped him as well). At the same time, I think there's also a tendency to over-prescribe meds. But that doesn't necessarily mean that meds aren't right in your son's case either. Meds may indeed be an appropriate choice. (Or very inappropriate.) Again, get educated, and get multiple opinions from people who have some first-hand knowledge about ADHD. I'm betting there are some on-line communities about this topic, made up of parents like yourself, who struggle with their kids, to varying degrees. And if so, I'll bet they discuss the particulars of their own situations, and share information they've learned as well. Good luck!! -- Tom
  7. I thought there were six titles (can't find six, can only find four), so maybe it was just these four (from Jazzmatazz)... ================== Gary Bartz - Music Is My Sanctuary (Blue Note Rare Groove) Apr 22, 2003 Donald Byrd - Caricatures (Blue Note Rare Groove) Apr 22, 2003 John Patton - Got A Good Thing Going (Blue Note Rare Groove) Apr 22, 2003 Candido - Beautiful (Blue Note Rare Groove) Apr 22, 2003 ================== EDIT: FYI, there were five in 2002 (also from Jazzmatazz)... Eddie Henderson - Sunburst (Blue Note Rare Grooves) May 21, 2002 Richard "Groove" Holmes - Comin' On Home (Blue Note Rare Grooves) May 21, 2002 Jack McDuff - Moon Rappin' (Blue Note Rare Grooves) May 21, 2002 Bobbi Humphrey - Satin Doll (Blue Note Rare Grooves) May 21, 2002 Jimmy McGriff - The Worm (Blue Note Rare Grooves) May 21, 2002 ==================
  8. No idea what the heck this is.
  9. No 'inside' info to base this on, but I have a hunch we'll see some rare Grooves before the end of the year. For some reason, Rare Grooves don't get asked about as much (it seems), and the early, early, everly leaking of info about the Rare Goove titles doesn't seem to be nearly as frequent as it is with the Conns and RVG's (at least based on my experience).
  10. From an on-line FAQ on Jason, Found it HERE (scroll down quite a ways into the page).
  11. Are you black or white?? (Wait, we'd better save that question just for Jackie. Better to not piss off more people than necessary, I always say. )
  12. Beldon did a great big-band version of "Directions" on this release, way back in 1989... Treasure Island (Sunnyside, 1989).
  13. Oh man, I hadn't realized we were talking about THOSE tracks. I've got the Verve box, and frankly -- since I've never owned many of the albums before (either on LP, or as single CD's), they all run together (in my mind), without any of the material having any identity as far as original albums go. But I gotta say that I LOVE those roughly three CD's worth of previously unreleased live tracks, smack dab in the middle of the Verve box. Frankly, the box is such a HUGE pain in the ass (packaging-wise), that I would seriously think about buying that very same material (again) if it were issued separately as a three-disc set. Hell, if I remember right (my Verve box is buried in another box, at the moment, or I'd check), if I remember right... The material from those three CD's worth of live music, is spread across something like FOUR discs. (Like the last half of one disc, two more full discs, and then the first half of a forth disc.) What a pain!! Man, I sure hope this turns out to be a release of the complete material, 3 CD's. What are the odds?? (Probably 50/50, at best, is my guess.)
  14. OK, first of all, everybody post pictures to this thread (if possible) -- cuz many of us are likely not to realize exactly who you're talking about (since we're not talking about the MAIN "lead" characters). Who are some of your favorite supporting actors from some of your favorite TV shows (or films). Not the ones that got all the glory (and their names in the opening credits), but the bit-players -- either in ensemble comedy shows, or dramas. Recurring characters are also fair game too. One I just thought of recently (and he's my current Avatar), was Steve Landesberg, who played Detective Arthur Dietrich on "Barney Miller". His totally dry (and I mean DRY) sense of humor, and delivery, crack me up to this very day -- although I rarely see Barney Miller any more, nobody ever seems to show it any more. I've also always been a fan of Sulu (George Takei) from the whole Start Trek thing (orginal series, but especially in the movies, particularly Star Trek IV - where he was the captain of his own ship!). I'm sure I'll think of a dozen more, but that'll get us started...
  15. If I had to pick right now, my top-10 would be (in alphabetical order)... Ornette Miles Joe Henderson Herbie Hancock Andrew Hill Dave Holland Lee Morgan Woody Shaw Wayne Shorter Larry Young
  16. I started pretty much with Miles too. Took a jazz history course in college, would have been about 1989 or so. Shortly after that, a buddy of mine made of tape for me with "KoB" on one side, and "Nefertiti" (plus the one track "Prince of Darkness" from "Sorcerer") on the back of the tape. I played that thing to death for months. It was all downhill from there (at least in terms of my pocketbook).
  17. That Dolphy cover is off the hook!! Where'd you find it??
  18. Is it just me? – or do there seem to be a fair number of new members trickling in, here and there, over the last several weeks?? Attn new people: If you haven't done so already, please introduce yourself – and please feel free to share any background info about yourself, if you like. And in case it hasn't been said specifically in direct response to a post of yours – WELCOME!!! Also, you might notice from the title of this thread – where did you hear about the Organissimo forums?? (Just curious.) Thanks!! And again, welcome to the board!!!
  19. The AMG Review claims it's only 71 minutes of music (total), and suggests that it would be great to release on one CD.
  20. Hard to imagine these as Rare Groove titles. Both seem more like Conns to me, though I suppose "Heaven On Earth" (with George Benson) could maybe go either way. But (IMHO) there's no way "Contrasts" is ever gonna be a Rare Groove, seeing as how it has both Tyrone Washington and Herbert Morgan on the front line. Way to 'out' for the Rare Groove series. (Not to say that I wouldn't love to see them released. Man, hard to believe that after this October, that these will be the only two Larry Young BN sessions that haven't seen release as single discs. I still remember when "Unity" was all we had on CD.)
  21. Yeah, there was a case here in Missouri, near Kansas City, just a couple years ago. The mother left her kid in her SUV, with the keys in it, and the engine running. Some guy who was let out on bail (but who should have been kept in jail, because there were other warrants out for him, which didn't come up on the computer for some reason), anyway, this guy steals the running SUV, with the kid in it. Well, as he's racing down the highway, the kid (who was only like about 6 years old), either tries to jump out of the car, or was pushed out of the car by the car thief. While the car (SUV) is doing 60 mph on the highway!! The kid is tangled in the seatbelt, and is dragged to his death, while the guy is weaving in and out of traffic on the highway. And the mother is all upset (as anyone would be), and raises hell about how if the county had been doing their job, this guy wouldn't have been out on bail in the first place (cuz of the outstanding warrants). Big hoopla ensues, and a bill (law) is finally passed in the state legislature (with the name of the kid, something like "Billy's Law" or whatever the kid's name was), to clamp down on bail being granted incorrectly in cases like this. (And that's all well and good.) BUT, all the while, I'm thinking they should have also thrown that mother's ass in jail for three months, for leaving her kid in a $35,000 vehicle (or even a $200 one), with the keys in it, and the motor running. I was furious for everyone in the local media making such a huge deal about guy being let out on bail (incorrectly), but then never once saying a fucking word about how this would have never happened if the kid hadn't been left in the car in the first place!!!! Get's my blood boiling even now, two or three years after the fact.
  22. Jim has explained my original comment better than I did (not surprisingly). (Thanks Jim!!) I have no problem with acknowledging the importance of Miles work prior to E.S.P. (because it certainly is important, much of it very important). But I am nearly always personally disappointed by tributes to Miles that seem to ignore his work from 1965 and after. And it wasn't until relatively recently (during the last decade at most, and really only the about last 5 years or so) that there have been any attempts to recreate ('cover', if you will) Miles' electric era ("In A Silent Way" and beyond). And prior Miles tributes (by artists other than former Miles sidemen) have almost always focused on tunes from his studio material prior to 1965. (I said "pre 1964 studio recordings" in my earlier post, meaning "Someday My Price Will Come", and before. I could have said pre-1965, and probably been clearer.) Again, I'm not anti-"pre-1965". But I am anti-"exclusively-pre-1965" as far as Miles tributes go, at least so far as my personal interest in such projects go. And in closing, thankfully there's this document, recorded in 1999. B) 1. High Speed Chase 2. Prince of Darkness 3. Spanish Key 4. What It Is 5. Sanctuary 6. Fast Track / Come Get It 7. Nefertiti 8. Calypso Frelimo
  23. ?... I mean, his choice of tunes won't be conservative. Nothing bugs me more than Miles tributes that pretty much focus on his pre-1964 studio recordings only, as if that's the only Miles worth paying tribute too.
  24. That's the nicest thing anybody ever didn't say about me. I'm so touched!!
