  1. That image won't be hosted forever, so here is it, attached to this thread...
  2. No, thank YOU!!!
  3. I probably wouldn't put the Ruttles in there, but Spinal Tab definitely needs to go somewhere in the top 500 (though down in the 400's, for sure).
  4. They're album covers!! Don't you recognize them????? Just for people like you, I even made them 'clickable' (the covers themselves, in my post right above this one) - to go to their AMG reviews.
  5. Yeah, maybe so they can finish her off. Don't know whether to laugh or cry. Probably both are appropriate. PS: Glad to see you posting more, Jazz. Keep it up!! Good to have you around.
  6. So, what do people who have this disc (or a burn of it), what do you think of the performance?? I've always liked it, quite a bit actually. Generally I think this band (with Land, recorded live in 1969 - meaning this particular disc, the JMY release) is a bit tighter (and the performance a bit better), than Hutch's 1973 performance/recording with Woody Shaw at Montreux (the one on BN). (Still wouldn't give up either of them, cuz any Woody is worth having, doncha know!!! )
  7. Yeah, and where the hell is this: ?????? - which is clearly one of the very best albums of it's kind. Heck, it's only rival is possibly this: . ( And not to be confused with this: - which certainly has it's moments, but ultimately doesn't quite cut it. )
  8. Wal-Mart holiday sales sets a new record
  9. I fear that the rest of the world sees this as being the American way. "Shop 'til you Drop" - as it were.
  10. I can't think of the scenes specifically, but I seem to remember more than one Spike Lee movie with a scene or two that were just totally whack!! Not dissin' Spike - I like most of his movies, and really like a few of them too. But he's an odd guy.
  11. I think the targeting and goading of Chris by WINGY is deplorable. Sorry, Bev, if I haven't said so specifically, but I've been mostly away from the board since Wednesday night (well, away more than usual anyway). Chris doesn't deserve this kind of treatment, nor do you, nor does anyone else on this board. (Well, I guess it probably goes without saying that no one deserves this kind of treatment, ever.)
  12. An excellent date. Maybe not an A++ performance, but grade A material in my book. Good price too. I had this years ago, loaned it out, never got it back (and the guy moved away), and had to pay about $25 for another one on eBay a few years later. No regrets for having made the second purchase, other than (obviously) the added expense. Good selection of tunes too, I might add. Great version of Blow Up.
  13. I'll try to post some more specific info later, but I would highly suggest people consider getting some "musicians earplugs", which are custom-made ear molds, with little filters that you slip into them. One set of filters will cut the overall sound by 15dB, and the other set will cut things by 25dB (the filters both fit the same molds). I have a set, which I use when I go to rock concerts, and even occasionally over amplified jazz concerts. My Mom (who is a retired audiologist), insisted that I get them about 10 years ago, as I was going to a fair number of loud concerts back then. I've also used them on-stage, occasionally, when I sing (baritone) in the Kansas City Symphony Chorus. They come in handy, in particular, when the chorus is on stage for an entire work, where we only sing in the last movement (and we're stuck up on stage for like 40+ minutes before we sing). Think Beethoven's 9th, although we've done a few other things (like Christmas Pops concerts with the symphony), where we're stuck on stage for long periods without singing. Something about us being the visual "wallpaper" behind the orchestra, since empty seats on risers doesn’t look very nice. I think they run about $100-$200 (they ain't exactly cheap), but they cut the frequency levels equally, for both bass and treble. The sound you hear is MUCH more natural than with the el-cheapo foam earplugs. Also, those don't cut very low frequencies nearly as well as the pro-earplugs. The custom molds go fairly deep into the ear canal, and do a much better job of blocking all sound equally. I'll try to find some links, and post some info here later this weekend.
  14. PS: Don't tell anybody I got hooked on American Idol last time (due to my wife's interest, I swear!!!). BUT, for the record, I've never bought anything by anybody on American Idol -- though if forced to confess under oath, I have left the channel on VH1 several times, just to see what the Idol's videos have looked like.
  15. (Oh great. Now somebody else we gotta string up and probably end up banning from the board.) Why, oh why?? - Aftab, did you have to go and listen to samples of this guy?? And why would you ever admit to this sort of thing in public!!! I think it's gonna take more than a bunch of Conns to get you out of this mess. Just call up Mosaic, give them your credit card number, and tell them to "suprise you".
  16. I don't have a good "content rich" post to add to this thread (much too late as I'm typing this, and I'm much to tired to think of a decent one), and yet I happened to think of it earlier tonight, and wanted to bring it up again -- in the hopes that we can foster some more conversation on this topic. If anyone new to the board happens to read this topic, please contribute. Doesn't matter what direction we take this thread in, as long as we continue talking about things -- which is, perhaps, half the battle. Peace!!
  17. Does anybody else find it odd that Wingy, who purports to be "Mr. Stream of Consciousness" (or seeming so, at least) – edits so many of his posts???? From this thread alone, he's edited 13 of his own messages. Not that there's anything wrong with that -- hell, I edit as much or more than Wingy does. But, for someone who posts what he posts (in terms of content), and the way he posts (in terms of style) -- the edits seem to suggest a far more calculated effort than one might otherwise expect. (Or, maybe just as calculated an effort as one might expect.) Just an observation, but one that I think is worth considering. Food for thought...
  18. I loved this date from the very first time I heard it (about 3 years ago, when I first got the Young Mosaic used on eBay, for about $120 - sans box and booklet). I recently picked up the new Conn, and had it on in my car for about 3 or 4 days. When I'm in the mood for it, I simply cannot get enough of this date. Everything about it excites me. That isn't to say that everything on the day works 'perfectly' -- but just like the very best Andrew Hill, I'm always left wanting more. Wanting to hear more sessions like this one, and wanting to hear this session again and again, because it always takes less obvious roads, and less obvious choices, at nearly every turn. All that, and some of THE most amazing and interesting Lee Morgan, anywhere!! ( I'll give this one a spin again this weekend, and try to post some more specific thoughts here in a couple days. ) PS: Some of you might remember that I lobbied HARD to get this released as a Conn back on the old BNBB. I already had the Mosaic, so it wasn't a matter of me not owning it. But seriously, of all the OOP sessions that were a bitch to find on CD (at the time), I could think of no other session more deserving of the Conn treatment, than "Mother Ship". At every opportunity (on the BNBB), I would quietly sing the praises of this album. I think I must have typed nearly 12 or 15 separate times, my standard description of this session as being like a cross between "Unity" and Don Cherry's "Complete Communion". AND, for that reason, I swear my relentless posting was part of the reason that "Mother Ship" scored so damn high in the very last "what do you want on CD??" poll on the old BNBB. I think "Mother Ship" came in first place in that poll, which got communicated to the powers that be at BN. And for that reason, I think I did play some small but real part in "Mother Ship" coming out as a Conn. A more deserving session, I cannot think of.
  19. (IMHO) - ALL of Krenek's symphonies are totally bad-ass in my book. Look for the pairing of his symphonies #1 and #5 on CPO. #1 has like 10 "movements" (though not "movements" in the conventional sense). Music from the early 20th Century, at it's finest. (Almost anything my Krenek is well worth seeking out, at least in my book.) Another guy who's similar to him, and just as interesting is Ernst Toch. CPO has recently recorded all of his symphonies, and they always keep me coming back for more. Several interesting concertos, and string quartets by Toch as well.
  20. Yes, Jazz, please consider jumping in more often. You may not post frequently, but whenever I see your Avatar (seriously), I always remember some very valuable posts you've made, here and there. Your contributions are most welcome, and please feel free to chime as much as you can and would like to. You (Jazz) have the benefit of knowing us, far more than we know you - and I feel that's our loss - cuz you definitely seem like a good guy. I lurked on the BNBB for a few months, before I dove in. "Free For All" lurked for literally a few years (at least two years, that I know of), before I goaded him into joining in. I'm absolutely sure that I speak for many of us, in saying that you (and anyone else who lurks more than posts) are totally welcome to contribute (or contribute more often), even if it's just a matter of asking questions, or adding tangential info to threads, or any other way you can think of. The more the merrier. And Jazz - you in particular seem like the kind of level-headed person I'd be glad to hear more from, and get to know better.
  21. Hey b3. Can you edit the title and sub-head of this thread, to better indicate that this is the place for people to sign-up to opt out of the Political threads?? I know of at least one other person who I think will probably choose the "non-political" option. But knowing him - he probably wouldn't even click on this thread with it's current title. Thanks!!!! (PS: I'll PM him too, and point him towards this thread. He may only be checking the board from work, in which case he may not even be around any this weekend.)
  22. I think this would have been the case (probably) for Moncur at least.
  23. Ditto. Good to have you back - hope you stick around.
  24. CLIT, WELCOME ABOARD. THIS IS WHERE THE REAL JAZZ IS DISHED (DISSED) OUT. STAY WITH US PAL AND TELL ALL THE NO NO NANETTE SITE (ALLABOUTGIZZ) DILDIES THAT THIS IS WHERE THE REAL ACTION IS. Stapleton can talk his British "FREE JAZZ" shit over there while sitting around his fireplace with his smoking jacket and pipe and think that he knows the shit. The NO NO NANETTE SITE buys into that just like the WOD'S (Webmistress of Death) JAZZ CORN(HOLER) site buys into all of RODOMONTADE REYNOLDS AND CHRIS A's jive. Thank You for listening. WINGY Particularly dissing Bev, British jazz, and "Free Jazz" all in one fell swoop.
