  1. Well worth getting. The "compilation" idea stems from the fact that Kofi is made up of two different but very similar sessions, recorded within a few months of each other. Don't have mine handy, but some of the players are different between the sessions. But the album does hang together quite nicely, and doesn't feel like separate (unrelated) sessions. Get it, by all means. One of Byrd's very last dates before things changed considerably.
  2. It's a little known fact that there were really 13 different versions of Yes, not just the 10 included in this poll.
  3. Hey, somebody voted for "Yes #2". Yeah!!!!!!!!
  4. Wow, Yes numbers #2-#7, and #9 haven't gotten any votes yet. And if I hadn't voted for #8, it would only be a contest between Yes #1 and Yes #10.
  5. Certainly not "necessary", but each person running the AOTW can arrive at their decision however they like, with a poll, without a poll. whatever. I did a poll when my week came around, and it was helpful in figuring out what people were most interested in from among the several titles I was knocking around in my head as possible selections.
  6. What the hell magazine was "Crawdaddy"???
  7. I've still got a few of those Night Music shows on tape, and I'd love to see more someday. I think the ones I have include Sun Ra, Carla Bley and Steve Swallow, and Karen Mantler, also I vaguely remember having the one with Sting. GREAT show that Night Music.
  8. By the way, despite all my gif posting, I really don't have a dog in this fight (or at least not yet), mostly because I've never really given the RIAA all that much thought before.
  9. Thanks Chuck, very much appreciate your thoughts on this topic, and any other opinions you have on the topic. Feel free to post more, as I think many of us would be interested in more of your take on all this. Thanks!! -- RT
  10. FYI, we have two competing threads on this very same topic. Suggest we take it to the longer of the two threads, which is here: Universal Music to Cut CD Prices to Under $13 Good points made in this thread, perhaps they could be restated in the other one??? (Just an idea.)
  11. You name it, they got it...
  12. Let's all chip in and buy b3-er one of these!!!
  13. Chuck, I'd be curious to get your reaction. I don't have a dog in this fight, but I know that you bring a somewhat unique perspective to discussions like this, and I'd be interested in your thoughts on the matter. Thanks!! -- RT
  14. I've got the Sun Ra SNL thing on tape, and it's farily interesting, for the most part. Didn't realize Ornette had been on SNL - when was that??? (What year??) Miles was on too, circa 1981 I think. I've heard it, but never seen it.
  15. I really dislike the mini-LP format, such that I think I only own about 2 or maybe 3 of them (at most), none of which are BN titles. Unless I'm simply fanatically interested in a release, I'll almost always wait for the eventual U.S. issue, which is almost always in a Jewel Box. (And in the case of Jimmy Wood's "Conflict", it also came with 20 minutes of bonus material.)
  16. Half of it will be very interesting on up to pretty amazing. Half it will be totally "ho-hum". I'd love to rent it sometime, and give it a spin.
  17. Another significant quote from the article above...
  18. For what it's worth, my guess at #13 was wrong, or at least it wasn't from the album I thouht it was. (Managed to borrow the CD back from a buddy of mine, and there are similar tracks on it, but not the same.)
  19. I don't know. For every 5 tracks on the CD that probably do suck (totally, beyond any shadow of a doubt), there's probably 1 that's maybe kinda interesting. I'm sure I won't be buying it, but I'd love to hear it sometime. So yeah, I'm guessing there are one or maybe two tracks that are worth hearing. (80%-90% shit, but perhaps a gem or two to be found.)
  20. Yeah, but how does it compare to the 'original' CD issue, circa 1986-87??? (That's the only version of Blue Train I've ever owned.)
  21. Three words... 'bout fuckin' time!!!!!!!!!!
  22. I love Val Wilmer's jazz photos, whenever I see them in books or magazines. Top notch stuff, nearly always.
