  1. Not to be linky-dinked (though I wonder if that policy has been losened a bit?), but there's this one: from the allmusic review (by "arwulf arwulf"):
  2. 33 € at amazon.it gave in an ordered now ...
  3. Oh, I love those Dickie Wells sesssions! And I love Django ... saw that Vogue box, too, but since indeed I eventually had to go for the three Fremeaux "season" sets, I figured I'm all set regarding Django
  4. It still is, just wish there were less
  5. I got mine for a bit more than 40€ in summer (and I think I posted a link back then, too) ... had been eyeing it for months ... but I'm still not sure it's worth getting ... have probably played around 20 discs (and have heard some before, the very good Haydn symphonies by Tafelmusik for instance, there I got the recent cheapo seven disc set). Some of it, I found pretty plodding, prodding, heavy-handed ... guess I don't "get" van Immerseel, really ... but then some of it is very good (the Boccherini discs by Bylsma come to mind, also other stuff by Tafelmusik).
  6. Unerhört Festival 2013 Fri 29 Nov 2013 (sold out, damn - just learned about that, so I'll miss it): Friedli – Malaby – Griener Gabrieala Friedli: Piano / Tony Malaby: Tenor Saxophone / Michael Griener: Drums Marco von Orelli 5 Marco von Orelli: Trumpet, Composition / Lukas Briggen: Trombone / Michel Wintsch: Piano, Synthesizer / Kaspar von Grünigen: Doublebass / Samuel Dühsler: Drums Archie Shepp – Tom McClung Archie Shepp: Saxophone, Voice / Tom McClung: Piano Sat 30 Nov 2013: Tobias Meier & «Things to Sounds» Tobias Meier: Saxophone / Yves Theiler: Piano / David Meier: Drums Stephan Crump – Mary Halvorson Stephan Crump: Bass / Mary Halvorson: Guitar Zentralquartett Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky: Alto Saxophone, Clarinet / Conrad Bauer: Trombone / Ulrich Gumpert: Piano / Günter Baby Sommer: Drums
  7. Guess I'm right on the way to there! Started with the solo materials (still haven't played the Liszt disc and that rarities disc and the DVD), but the Schubert (and also the Schumann, not much, alas) is great!
  8. I've recently enjoyed a lot what Schubert there is in the big Decca box by Clifford Curzon though! That's some heavy stuff there ... but it comes from a rather different place than Kempff, I think (more like the Schnabel line, if I dare mention that name again).
  9. Can't really imagine Kempff doing Schubert ... not able to say why, but I can't see his style being fitting too well (and that's not against Kempff at all, I've got a variety of recordings of his, solo, concertos, also some chamber, and love most of them).
  10. Ha, one of the questions is: which train wreck do some nerds think could be kick started? Jim A. and Rolf (son-of-a-weizen) are the only ones who can get rid of spammers and Rolf hasn't been around for months now, while Jim is probably touring. The mods can only delete the messages and they are MIA. Has MG handed in his mod-rights? Guess the merikins are all busy binge-shopping over the whole weekend ... just in case, instead of turducken, next time they could try a stuffed camel:
  11. okay, thanks!
  12. Same here ... kept every fifth or tenth, plus some early ones I got from brownie. Guess I'll hang on the ones I've not trashed so far (but they're lost amongst other stuff). Got the new one today as well.
  13. Oh, I'd love that idea! Even if it was just an italian "Complete Sims Pablo Albums" box - it's not PD yet, but I guess the existing remasterings would be fine, so not much work to be done (and they did Lee Konitz Milestone, too - not PD either).
  14. Why does it have the colour of a pig?
  15. Guess I'll want this, too. Whom can I send the bill?
  16. How much music is there on the Powell disc? Can anybody provide timings? These ARE pricy ... and I think I won't get the Dolphy. I'd be all for a 2CD set of the entire sessions though, but this one seems to be a bit expensive for a few alternates and not that much music (I know there's one new tune there, too, but 40$ for one tune, by all my love for Dolphy ...)
  17. Harpsichords, hammered dulcimers and squeeze boxes and a mistle toe? May I get the links, please, even if I can't promise adding much to the discussion? I'll try though! Oh, I see you planned me in already ... kewl! I've not been active in BFTs lately, too many new discs around to check out, and too little time ... but then has that ever been different since that doomed day when I finally signed up to the ol' BNBB? I guess some day I'll send you all some cheques
  18. well, Mosaic sent me a big box, too ... but that one's less unexpected, I guess
  19. Disc three now ... love this group! Nothing against Horn and Pisano, but as far as the cello quintet goes, nothing beats the original line-up, Collette is such a wonderful musician, and the chemistry is perfect. Maybe the Horn/Pisano line-up just didn't get to be recorded in a representative way, I don't know ... but the stuff seems - by comparison - too short, too organized.
  20. Anyone has any idea what's going on with these? I've probably received ten re-scheduled delivery dates ... and funny enough I already DID get the Ellington disc (the prev. unissued track is rough around the edges but nice), that by now again is only to be released in late January: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00E4V08KS/
  21. definitely not for me ... though I'm sure there'd be some good music to discover there
  22. Sad news indeed, but as with others I rarely order from the US anymore nowadays.
  23. Would have been all over this set some three or four years ago ... got all the albums on single discs (including "Showtime", btw), so there's no need. But yes, the early albums are wonderful indeed and most of the later ones have some fine stuff, too. My top favorite probably is "Chicken Skin Music".
  24. Yeah, I'd be all for a good reissue of the trio date ... too bad they didn't include it in the Mosaic!
  25. Thanks indeed, Larry - very interesting points! And yes, that last paragraph ... dare I say that like that old recordings regain some kind of aura? I mean honestly, for me, music was always 95% solitary listening ... and after all there are moments were discovering something that was preserved and has been saved over from another era is turning into a one-time, life-changing experience ... or a crazy mind-fuck turning things you thought you knew upside down. Of course that can happen in concerts, too, the intensity level of the live experience is hard to beat ... but not necessarily an advantage as far as being in the right mood (is that a romantic notion? or just a commodity?) and ready to "receive".
