Okay, fine - and thanks. I just had hunches of "black anti-semitism" being defended here as a valid expression of opinion - and that is indeed a thing to worry about in my book ... maybe I mis-read some posts, but then that may again be the usual "freedom of speech" gap between americans and europeans.

Not sure why my posts had to go since I was trying to express a sincere concern about this very discussion.

I discussed it all in detail with David Wild before posting here - my copy misses a couple of dozen (prob. glossy) "inserted" (un-numbered) photo pages. That's just fact. And I hate to discover this so late in the game ... waiting for Routledge to answer my inquiry now. And no, definitely no hardcover needed I'd say, though it helps keeping the book in good shape (it's about 2 inches thick and comes in A4 format, close to US letter format - the US edition might be letter, what do I know ... but the yurpeen one should have them photos, too).

Definitely want it, but only in a month, I'm afraid ...

Grabbed the files last night, too ... silly to make them WAVs and so huge, but I'm not complainin'!

I've really made heavy use and often looked up stuff in the "Coltrane Reference" (bought the hardcover edition in Aug 2011) - but I'm devastated to realize there should have been a photo insert all the way (un-numbered betweetn p. 394 and 395). Amazon declares itself free of any obligation after two years ... now I sent a note to Routledge. I never ever spent such an amount on any other single book ... really am pissed (no booze involved, mind me) big time! Do all those of you who bought it have okay copies? Not sure how many there are, took me weeks to make up my mind, too ... but I've not regretted it, it's a terriffic source.

Not that much of a fan of the one Staier disc I've got: It's very much okay to hear another approach, but it doesn't reach the heights some of the old guys do ... at least that is my perception. Guess I should try Lahusen, too.

I've bought the Radu Lupu box a few months ago ... have never systematically started exploring it, but must have played at least half of it ... excellent, I'd say! His recordings of the two sets of Impromptus is included as well and is wonderful. Other than that, inevitably: Schnabel! His D 960 is one of those life-changing experiences to be gained from music - in my book at least. There are also two that Jorge Bolet recorded (D 959 and D 784), available on a Decca CD (or as part of the dirt-cheap box set, wish that had been around when I searched for Bolet recordings). There's also a recent reissue on Arcana of Paul Badura-Skoda's complete recording on period instruments (rec. early/mid 90s). I bought it, but have not listened to any of it yet, so can't say anything.

Yes, she can swing and has an incredible jazz talent Shawnn performed with all the big names in jazz. Like whom? Count, Duke, Bird, Trane, Miles? But I guess since this is one of these "anyhting goes" threads, we needn't mind too much As for "living", my personal favorite besides Merrill (she did some gigs this year in spring, a night at the Village Vanguard and a few concerts in Japan - wish I'd been there!) is probably Elina Duni, though I guess she does not qualify as "jazz" singer in many a book. Also Susanne Abbuehl, who in her own way continues what Jeanne Lee (one of her teachers/mentors) did. And then there's Sheila Jordan, too!
