  1. No, a week left ... glad they added an international option for the CD + full DL, guess I'll join in, too!
  2. Indeed Finally took time to have a closer look, myself!
  3. Ethan Iverson has a great write-up on Bailey on his blog: http://dothemath.typepad.com/dtm/2013/10/donald-bailey.html Some very interesting observations there, for instance these: Then there's a great story on "The Sermon" ...
  4. you can see them without being a member (I'm not, either): https://www.facebook.com/pages/Nessa-Records/164776050253630?id=164776050253630&sk=photos_stream
  5. The re-packing and -grouping that Rearward does is a bit confusing ... they did some reissues that have like 80% overlap with other of their own reissues (the Shihab discs!). Escapes me why they do that. Rather stick to one "line" and bring out more music! But hey, this is a small complaint, since basically it's just great that anyone still bothers about Clarke/Boland!
  6. Thanks for sharing! I was aware but tend to quickly forget again ... will have to get both eventually (and a few more from Rearward, both Clarke/Boland and others).
  7. Okay, so they ARE different from the Hindsight material, then - thanks!
  8. Thanks a lot, got to have a closer look, somehow was under the impression the Hindsight LPs were covering earlier material. (edit for typo)
  9. okay, I'm lost now, where to go?
  10. Got to get this, too, eventually! Want the Lunceford, too, but it's on backorder for a while (anywhen 2014, not very precise).
  11. I remember it, too ... there was even a short article in one of the daily papers I read.
  12. Interesting point regarding E.S.P. ... regarding the Miles albums, "Miles Smiles" would be my pick - that one, to me, best exemplifies what this group was about, and Hancock is just amazing on it! I assume my vote when to "Speak No Evil", but "Etcetera" and "Adam's Apple" would be strong contenders. (Why can't we see what we voted for?)
  13. Undeservedly so, I'd say! Their gig in Zurich was pretty darn great! And very much on the outer end of Roach's musical spectrum. I found it thought provoking and highly enjoyable to see Roach opening up to this type of music. Saw him in duo with Abdullah Ibrahim, too - much weaker concert, alas, but Roach's half hour solo set was darn great and he was a charmer!
  14. Bump - still don't have the Circle stuff ... I think - I'm still a bit confused regarding all those Ellington transcriptions though. I have the Hindsight 3CD box (rec. 1946/47), but what about the "Uncollected" ones, those are from 1943-45, right? What's the best way to get those? Are they included one some box-set, is there overlap with any other series (Storyville's DETS)?
  15. Not sure, I'd guess if you order now, you'll get them to this price once they'll be back in stock. But I don't really have any experience on how Amazon handles such cases ... most of them are out of stock by now.
  16. very sad news - r.i.p. here's the earlier thread: that late disc is fine, and the trio with Rowles and Mitchell is mighty good, indeed (thanks brownie)!
  17. Wonderful set! Very good to have all of this music in one place ... tends mostly to be overshadowed by other bands Miles let, but there's so much very good music in it, I really enjoy it! I've loved the Lincoln Center concert ever since getting that Great 1964 Concert double disc (or what was it called?), and the Berlin concert is pure magic!
  18. So Hip-O-Select has to be British, then ...
  19. Not sure about "shaking my world" (or ass or brain) and "most beloved" ... guess there must be some kind of difference, since you can be shaken by stuff that hardly ever will grow a favourite? Anyway, some that shook me world and guts for sure, were: Jimmy Smith - Groovin' at Smalls' Paradise (RVG 2CD) John Coltrane - Blue Train Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus Workin' with the Miles Davis Quintet Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um Charles Mingus - Black Saint and the Sinner Lady Miles Davis - In a Silent Way Duke Ellington - Money Jungle Charlie Parker - the Savoy 5LP box Eric Dolphy - Out ot Lunch Thelonious Monk - the Blue Note recordings, Brilliant Corners, Misterioso Herbie Nichols - the Blue Note recordings Ornette Coleman - the Atlantic box Andrew Hill - the Mosaic Box (1963-67) Cecil Taylor - Nefertiti Albert Ayler - Spiritual Unity ... or maybe it was the Hilversum recording that fist shook me ... Art Ensemble of Chicago - Les Stances à Sophie Von Freeman - Serenade and Blues there must be more ... as far as favourites go, I posted a top-200 list where much consideration went into stuff like: is there enough Coltrane in there (or too much) and it was quite a big of work to get it evened out ...so in the end it might not really be my top-200 (hell, who can sort out more than 25 things anyway ... I certainly wouldn't claim this to be an exact ranking, after the thirtieth or so rank it's more like "in that region" than "on number 68") - have a look here if you feel like (comments in German): http://forum.rollingstone.de/showthread.php?27-Eure-Album-Top100&p=3012746&viewfull=1#post3012746
  20. Two titles from the new album can be heard by streaming this radio programme from French radio: http://www.francemusique.fr/emission/open-jazz/2013-2014/randy-weston-billy-harper-un-tete-tete-aux-sources-du-blues-10-08-2013-00-00 The should be the first ones, looking at the playlist - hit the "play button" next to "ÉCOUTER L’ÉMISSION". My search for more info turned up without anything ... the promo blurbers (they must have long replaced all real writers out there in the corporate world, too bad) all repeat the same ... met in 1972, rekkid in 1974 at Montreux with Don Moye added bla bla bla ... Seems "Carnival" is being reissued, too - at least so says the short write-up in the page of the radio show. Ha, found it - it's in small print on the back cover - it's indeed a new recording, Feb. 2013!
  21. You are my kinda guy, Ronald! @MG: the question is about the new release, I assume ... and Don Moye, to most of us, is he who was the drummer of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, of course
  22. Okay, thanks ... the technicalities ... not too good in these things, but too bad about the boxes, I'd have loved to see them all! Not too far with Volume 1 yet, but it's been very revealing to me, in many respects!
  23. Sure they do ... but what I'd wish for was a complete Hancock release, with all his music, indepentendly of what was actually used in the film!
