  1. struggling to contribute... site won't properly load when I hit paypal... should be easier to send cash but then who guarantees it's not used on medication that won't be taken?
  2. I bet it's a new old Wayne tune
  3. One of those Lester Young Story volumes? The Smith/Jones is also on the Band #1 box (minus the alternate, I think). Haven't compared but that one sounds very good to me, too.
  4. dimly remember reading about someone trying to reissue that one and not getting past either wadud or phillips who was against a reissue for some reason or other... (Ubu?) (clips on youtube sound pretty great to me though... on page 60 here is more on this band Would have to look it up but yes, there were attempts... maybe multiple ones. Thought it was Mumin (Phillips), while Wadud's whereabouts remain mysterious... also I think the album - while certainly being some kind of underground classic - doesn't live up to Jonathan's expectations.
  5. A copmlete edition of the Bimhuis material would be wonderful! Would be a 3CD set, I assume... or could it be squeezed (squozen?) onto two? I've not heard the final encore, and it seems the Circle LPs had the sets jumbled around or something (and the two encores only appeared on LPs by various artists). "Paragon" is a wonderful album, in my opinion. Got the LP and a friend made me a CDR-dub (which I've not even listened to yet... got to do that soon). That's a fine suggestion for a single Rivers album, I think (but I don't nearly know all of his seventies albums, I think).
  6. Saw Irene Schweizer performing solo last night. Short set (ca. 45 min) as part of the surroundings of an exhibition dedicated to the part of Zurich she chose to live in several decades ago... first time to hear her solo in person (I've heard her in duos with Françoise Kubler and Pierre Favre, as well as accompanying a film in solo, but that's not exactly a solo concert, although it was a great experience, too!). Anyway, it's amazing how broad her range is... there's all in it, all music, virtually. You hear glimpses of Monk, Nichols, Weston, but all turned into her own very much so... she'd use one of Dollar Brand's trademark left-hand-vamps (in five) and add some stuff all her own to it, dropping in and out of the ostinato as she pleased, she'd wail some blues, and do some Monk tunes clearly recognizable yet thoroughly reworked, both harmonically and melodically... very, very good, needless to say! Also picked up her latest release on Intakt, "To Whom It May Concern", the live recording from Zurich's sacred temple of classical music (the Tonhalle), where she played in April 2011 to celebrate her 70th birthday. She's really a treasure of this town, of this country, and - hell! - of mankind! Cool! They were *very* good in Cologne in November! Went to shake hands with Taborn afterwards and he nearly wouldn't let me go again... very nice guy off stage, too!
  7. Booby?
  8. The Lieb/Beirach is very good in my opinion! A very positive surprise. Did it go straight to "last chance"?
  9. Uhm, a Lacy RCA set I meant to say...
  10. FWIW: I've once suggested an RCA set to Mosaic - got a favourable answer from MC, but of course you never know if it might happen or not...
  11. same here... if anyone happens to stumble over a truckload, put one in the mail for me, please!
  12. The discs should be on their way shortly... DL links will be shared on Saturday or Sunday - all things are settled, and I'm looking forward a lot to reading your comments and impressions! Would be great to have some more folks join in!
  13. Okay, thanks for the explanation! Don't know the band, obviously... will have to dig up my Wright discs again.
  14. Spinning "Nefertiti" to celebrate
  15. That's too bad! From what little I've heard, I consider myself a Jack Wright fan!
  16. Will try and catch Malaby live in May! Sounds like I should kill if necessary in order to make it!
  17. Will try and have the link up for Jeff tonight - so Hot Ptah gets his disc in time. Also BillF's disc should be on its way tomorrow or Monday. It will be MP3-sourced, too - but quality should be okay. Didn't keep lossless versions of the tunes on the computer and in several cases have been working from my previous ipod-rips anyway. I think all files are M4A (some may be MP3, but I don't think) - they can be played with WinAmp or iTunes, and I guess many other players (foobar comes to mind). Hope this won't present any technical difficulties for anyone! Anyway, I guess here would be the place to ask questions if any problems arise. Good to have you in, Mike! A certain chap from Paris (don't call him guy - sorry, bad pun) will have a disc in the mail, as well, no matter if he wants it or not
  18. Matana Roberts - Coin Coin Chapter Two: Mississippi Moonchile Rote Fabrik, Zurich, Switzerland - March 22, 2012 Amazing concert, deep, wonderful, touching... and very intense! Wonderful hooking up with her afterwards, took some photos for the great new, independent German music magazine get happy!? (disclaimer: as all contributors, I didn't earn a cent... and our own brownie allowed use of four wonderful Miles photos he made in 1969!), had my copy of "Coin Coin Chapter One: Gens du Couleur Libres" signed, and just had a great time talking!
  19. I remember the story but I didn't remember that that was you! For shame, for shame! Wasn't me... no kids around here, and my Hill box is in the shelf, where it belongs
  20. also, deep in forum history (on the verge of turning into mythology by now), there's story about an Andrew Hill Mosaic box that got lost whilst having been in use as a drawing board for kids in the car... or some such
  21. There was a lengthy discussion about this in some other Miles thread (the one about the huge albums box, I think?)
  22. More Kuhn is always nice! I'd love Swallow to go back to acoustic for that occasion, though...
  23. Don't like that one too much (assuming it's the very same as can occasionally be found in bars over here... bottle looks the same, I think). Will have plenty of Guinness and some healthy pub food for dinner tonight
  24. Well, the site got freaked up, it's much harder to find news... and the previous method of finding covers of upcoming but not yet officially listed releases (by entering the URL with subsequent catalogue-nos) doesn't work any longer. As for artists left: plenty of them, read through the thread here, there's lots of suggestions! They could easily do two more dozen of sets, I assume, maybe even twice as many.
  25. Howdy, folks! I've missed the last few BFTs, including the one still running... but I'll honor my promise to do the April one, and I hope it will be fun and see some participation! I hope to be ready on April 1, and if possible share links a bit earlier in order to provide those who need physical discs with their copies in time!
