  1. The Horo cost around 15$... thought that was very much okay for nice vinyl and a good looking cover (no seamsplits and such). Haven't played it yet and am still unable to talk vinyl-lingo, but I'd assume it's somewhere between NM and VG or some such...
  2. Yes they have - several in fact: http://www.testoftimerecords.com/artist.asp?id=31
  3. it was in the tabloids yesterday...
  4. I will check my copy tonight! So? Same as with mine?
  5. Aw shit... guess we all need to hunt for vinyl then.

I can now say I dig "Street Life", too - after a first listen, that is! @mike: I've got their early stuff (Mosaic, Jazz Waltz, Latin stuff, live albums... still waiting for Lighthouse 69 though, but I guess I'm not alone there).

I know about "Street Life"... but I thought Sangrey was saying "up to and including 'Street Life'" - maybe I got that wrong... anyway, the used bookstore nearby where I got most of my vinyl for the past two years had the four, and for pretty good prices, too (and in fine shape). Alas, they don't have "Scratch" (nor do they have "Free as the Wind", which looks even more tempting). Btw, while I did get the Originals CD-reissues of "I", "2nd Crusade", "Pass the Plate" and "Old Socks", I've never been tempted yet by "Images". Played some of it in a store and it didn't connect (will have to check with "Street Life", only just wrapping up "Southern Comfort" as I'm typing, "Chain Reaction" will follow first).

Picked up used vinyl of these four today: Unsung Heroes Southern Comfort Chain Reaction Street Life 300 S. Knew "Southern Comfort" when in high school - not listened since... all others are new to me. "Chain Reaction" sure has a cool cover!
  11. Thanks for you insight, guys!
  12. Okay, thanks! I guess I'll rather tend to stay away then, as there's no possibility to play the records there (but hey, I must have bought 100 there and they're all fine, so....)
  13. Interesting! Didn't even remember the label's name, but looking up their website I remember having ogled their Soft Machine releases... and I see there's also one by Nucleus (just got the BGO 2CD set with their first two albums).
  14. Okay, thanks! Good to know! Best of course is, that it's a fine recording (it's spinning right now!)
  15. Since the Alan Grant disc was mentioned... there's also this fine one from Basle, 1969, with some mean Joe Henderson, among many other delights: (Should be around via amazon... being from Europe, I found that most often priceminister.com works best for TCB discs, but they're usually not around cheaply.) (should I absolutely go back to the store and buy Suite for Pops, btw?)
  16. I thought that was the deal... McCann would appear on a BN album with Stanley and vice-versa for Pacific Jazz?
  17. Gee, just lost a post... Carrère CDs: only have (had, I think) the "Stardust Session" by Coltrane. Seemed okay to me - but I always thought anyway, that all OJCCDs, no matter who the manufacturer and distributor, used the same masterings? The exception being the 20bit digipacks from ZYX (the successor of Mikulski, I assume - or was it just a new name for the same outfit?). Anyway, this is about vinyl here... any other opinions or stories on Carrère LPs? brownie? Now playing: I've heard most of it (prob. the West Wind CD, morons there omitted "Soft and Furry"!!) on the radio years ago (might still have a minidisc of that...) and am very happy to own it now! Beautiful session w/Parlan, Art Taylor and Mads Vinding. Seems Griffin and Taylor really did fit well! And Parlan's always nice to hear.
  18. Absolutely love the three-part version of "Soft and Furry"! Great tune for... uhm... a great thing But what kind of allusion is "Honey Bucket"? Gee, bucket!?
  19. I paid about 5€ for a copy that looks virtually unplayed (and the cover untouched). Those Carrère-thingies, are they any goodd? Sometimes they're priced rather highly at that used-bookstore where I buy much of my LPs... I stood away mostly from them so far, because of the prices (got the BN Town Hall thingie though!).
  20. I guess only the Horo really qualifies as a *great* find but most of these look like new and prices were quite alright, too, so... Dave Holland - Life Cycle (ECM) Dave Holland - The Razor's Edge (ECM) Carla Bley - Dinner Music (Watt) Carla Bley - Social Studies (Watt) Jan Garbarek - Dis (ECM) Johnny Griffin - To the Ladies (Galaxy/Carrère) Johnny Griffin - Live in Tokyo (Inner City) Lee Konitz & Martial Solal - Duplicity (Horo) Pat Metheny - Rejoicing (ECM) What about Inner City - legit?
  21. Johnny Griffin - To the Ladies (Galaxy/Carrère) Very nice! And completely NOT on my radar so far! Just found it... will post a list over in the other thread...
  22. And he's on a BAD Randy Weston albums, too! (reissued by Fresh Sound - thankfully, for once!)
  23. Yes indeed! Discovered it last year, Japanese reissue... fine one!
  24. btw, there's also this one, out on Reel Recordings (great little label!): http://reelrecordings.org/elton_dean_ninesense.php
