  1. that other thread made me dig out: Brownie: The Complete EmArcy Recordings of Clifford Brown CD3 in the player right now!
  2. It's a bit of a mess, but yes, it seems all is included, even those titles without Brown. We're speaking of one long session - August 14, 1954 - that yielded plenty of music, taking up all of disc 5 and disc 6 of the "Brownie" set. Those titles were on : MG 36000 - Dinah Jams Featuring Dinah Washington MG 36002 - V.A. - Jam Session Two more titles (Crazy He Calls Me, I'll Remember April) ended on EmArcy (J) 195J 2 "Clifford Brown - Jams 2", which also contained additional titles from the August 11, 1954 date (of which the main part ended up on Various Artists - Best Coast Jazz (EmArcy MG 36039) (just two side-long titles, "Coronado" and "You Go to My Head") and on MG 36102 - Clifford Brown All Stars - Caravan (again, two side-long titles). The 10CD box contains some more takes - all the music recorded on both dates.
  3. That's great news! Glad then I held out on buying the Lonehill!
  4. I'm at work now... will have to check the discographies later, but to my best of knowledge, it's all included in the Brownie box (at least that's what I've been assuming all these years). It's a magnificent box anyway, with all the Brown/Roach music (alternate takes included)... and some of the finest by Helen Merrill and Sarah Vaughan, too.
  5. Well, it was all on the Brownie 10CD set... Also on these: And since I'm at it, there was this one, too: If you want all in one place, the Brownie box is the way to go!
  6. Happy Birthday!
  7. Happy Birthday!
  8. not too many concerts in the past year... amazing: Rhoda Scott (Hotel Schweizerhof, St. Moritz - 2010-11-05) Lee Konitz & Minsarah (Moods, Zürich - 2010-03-30) John Butcher & Claudia Ulla Binder (Unerhört, Rote Fabrik, Zürich - 2010-11-27) very good: Elina Duni (Moods, Zürich - 2010-02-28) thoroughly enjoyable: Abdullah Ibrahim & Ekaya (Casino Basel - 2010-03-12) Gianluigi Trovesi Electric 5 (Moods, Zürich - 2010-04-28) interesting stuff, with some fine (even great) moments: Raw Materials: Rudresh Mahanthappa & Vijay Iyer (Jazzclub Uster - 2010-02-25) Rudresh Mahanthappa's Indo-Pak Coalition (Moods, Zürich - 2010-01-20) Gianluigi Trovesi Ottetto (Unerhört, Rote Fabrik, Zürich - 2010-11-27) very bad and utterly boring: Carla Kilhstedt & Mathias Bossi (Unerhört, Rote Fabrik, Zürich - 2010-11-27)
  9. now the link is working :-) sorry to hear sales are going so slowly... I guess you don't mind if some of us spread word a little? Oh, and I'd like my copy signed by Vic
  10. Happy Birthday, Clifford! Thanks for keeping up the good work!
  11. Is it? Never thought the master of BFTs had to do that... but thanks a lot for your offer! Well, whether it "officially" is or not, I'm glad to do it. and it's much appreciated!
  12. totally missed out on this - will have to wait a while, short of funds - hope you still have some copies left!
  13. Is it? Never thought the master of BFTs had to do that... but thanks a lot for your offer! I'd be happy to get some sing-ups right here in this thread - and those who can't handle DLs, please drop me a PM with your postal address and I'll then discuss further with Jeff! So, again: download option: just post here that you're in... I might end up posting the links here anyway cdr option: please drop me a private message to sign up!
  14. Ah, well, sorry to say but I'm used to that... (not from amazon.de of course, but from anywhere across the pond).
  15. Starting this a bit earlier than usual... and I might end up finalizing the selections a bit later than I should (though I hope not, as I'm writing this). Anyway, will a download be fine for everybody? I'd really prefer to keep it DL-only - and in case anyone in the US couldn't handle it that way, I'd be very happy about a kind volunteer who'd burn some CDRs from the MP3 I'll put up and pass them on. I realise this will cost a bit, of course, and am very grateful for anyone willing to step in. (Though, compared to my first BFT where I had a larger number of participants and ALL the sets were mailed out to "hubs" in the US and yurp, who again spread further copies... it all got so much easier as time went by!) As for the music... I got rid of the idea of another South African-centred BFT - it will be all (or mostly) jazz, and there'll be something to hate for everyone, but I also hope something to be discovered for everyone. If you just want foot-tapping, light music or hard-swinging but oh-so-formulaic hardbop, this is not for you, I'm afraid! ~ . ~ . ~ . ~ . ~ dl option alex. 16. I got a no-good box set from them a few months ago (Marvin Gaye "The Master", disc one was dead on one channel), sent it back (what a hassle!), got another one, same problem, so sent it back again... then wrote a mail to them, complaining, also mentioning that they were still listing the item... so one morning they called me on my cell phone, a lady from their customer service (no idea if her name was Amélie), apologizing and explaing and assuring me that they do very much care... bla bla bla. I ended up ordering another version from german Amazon (the Edel earbooks edition, which is much nicer anyway - same music, same liners, but LP-sized coffee-table book with lots of photos). Anyway, they did tell me that, would the price raise in the meantime, they would offer me the box for the price I initially ordered it for - so I guess you could have asked for that. More annoying was another order (with my x-mas gift in it) that bumped back - guess that wasn't their mistake, but the reason given was that my address didn't exist... as if they hadn't delivered 200 packages in the past years... in that case, too, my girlfriend (who had ordered that package) had no way to tell them to send it again, she got a refund immediately. The positive side there was that the price went down almost 10€ in the meantime, so her newly placed order was quite a bit cheaper!
  17. Happy Birthday, Nate!
  18. http://www.amazon.de/Big-Band-Man-Polydor-Recordings/dp/B00163P9N8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1294283296&sr=1-1 didn't get it, myself... not quite to my taste, I'm afraid - but these MPS boxes are nicely done (though if the liners were in german originally, they'll be in german now, as well).
  19. Happy Birthday!
  20. I'll top that by saying it will be THE cornerstone of your Parker collection! Wonderful set!
  21. I thought "Double Barrelled Soul" was pretty good. Other than that I only have "Tobacco Road" from that period. Agreed though that anything I've heard from the Prestige years is better. Got the "Live!" twofer in just yesterday!
  22. Belated congratulations, Tony! And all the best for 2011!
  23. You can get the downloads from eMusic or Amazon and probably iTunes. There are a fair number of new and used copies of the box itself from resellers floating about on Amazon, but no idea how long they will last. You guys convinced me (esp. Chuck) and now there is one fewer... You won't regret it!
  24. Is there a discography of Disc 4 of #1 band set floating around (aside from the booklet inside the box of course)? I have the Mosaic, so am unlikely to get this for just the live sessions, but I might look at other ways of obtaining the live material. (I didn't see a specific CD release that had the same material, but maybe it is spread over a few CDs.) Thanks! Besides the live disc, America's #1 Band includes 40+ tracks not in the Mosaic set - band tracks after Lester left town, 12 octet tracks and some rhythm section material. You get Byas, Hawk, Lucky, Illinois, Wardell and Rouse in place of Young. I think between this and the Clef/Verve Mosaic, you have the entirety of the official octet studio material, right?
  25. Haven't counted them for many years... a rough guess: about 800 non-jazz CDs, somewhere between 6000 and 7000 jazz CDs... and around 200 LPs.
