Yes, they are... but while the Album Classics disc come in basic cardboard sleeves, the "For All Time" set has a sturdy box housing the five respective CDs in Sony/Legacy editions with their typically fine booklets/notes and all (not sure all of them have been made available separately, but "Time Out" and "Time Further Out" have and they're identical to the versions in the box).

That's a weird ranking... only know the Farlow yet, but his flow and swing are unmatched among other guitarists, in my humble opinion. What I heard of Pass' from that period (for instance in the Gerald Wilson Mosaic) has sounded great and I'm looking forward a lot to eventually getting that box, too... Anyway, I guess to me it's all apples and oranges, in the end.

Love Roy Eldridge! The Mosaic was a revelation in many respects! Also the Paris 1950 recordings are pretty good... and some later Pablo stuff, too! And the trumpet/drum duos done for Granz are a fine proof (if any is needed!) of how adventuresome a musician Roy was!

That's the one of which two tracks were added to the Blue Note CD reissue of "Booker Little - 4 and Max Roach", the United Artists album... too bad they never released the whole thing "domestically"!

Early 70s, actually. Their first after returning from Apple, iirc? Yessir - and it's the funkiest album they ever did. John Lewis' comping on the first two tracks would have served the James Brown horn section perfectly. Thou sayeth thus that "Plastic Dream" is worth hearing? Just passed it by in a local sale this week... will return Saturday to check if it's still around! Expect to hear a harpsichord on two tracks, and make sure your equipment can deal with a crotale or finger cymbals as a ride cymbal substitute - great speaker test. If they sound cluttered ....... Besides Space, it's the wierdest MJQ album, I never heard anybody hear drum grooves like those Connie Kay plays on the opening track. Masterful. And funny, if you can understand John Lewis' musical humor ... Ok, that sounds interesting! "Space", too! I was once too stupid to pick up that one at a used store, many years ago... I can deal with a harpsichord - I found the recent hate-thread rather weird...

Well, when I started buying Mosaics, 1US$ was about 1.50CHF - with the boxes at 16$ per disc, plus some 20$ shipping and 20$ of taxes, it was *still* cheaper than most discs I was used to buy in local stores! That may sound crazy, but when I first got these Trueblue catalogues, full with discs at 13 and 16US$, it was like heaven and I ordered huge piles of stuff (well, at least in summer after I earned some money on holiday jobs...) Anyway, with the $ having gone down and the Swiss Franc having gone up, it's close to 1=1 now and hence Mosaics got cheaper and cheaper in the past years... That's my perspective, but I guess among the folks here it's a rather unique one (he he, Unique, that's what some marketing/branding morons dubbed Zurich airport, btw).

I'd have bought the whole run a couple of weeks ago... just got a shipping notification on Octets (Vol. 3) - that one seems to be the most elusive by now.

I passed on the vinyl of it a while back. It was near mint too. Hardly had the nerve to hand it over to the pretty female cashier ! Like being a schoolboy and buying a copy of Penthouse.. Yeah, I could have just bought it on yinyl as well, but the CD has about three bonus tracks...

"Introducing Jimmy Cleveland" and "It's All Right" by Wynton Kelly were both also part of the long-gone Verve Elite Edition CD series. The Cleveland is mighty fine (I *did* buy the Lonehill 2CD set but of course kept the VEE), the Kelly is nice, groovy... but rather on the light and easy side.

Sent in my order... Smith + Rich + Carter/Bradford - most excited about the third one, one of those that I'm very happy to get way before it's on the endangered list! And as for shipping... you merikins are so spoilt anyway! I used to go for the surface option for years, took 1.5-3 months - everything arrived, no damages, ever. Once they forgot an order of mine (including lots of Trueblue discs) and then sent it by airmail... 80% of the jewel cases from the trueblue part were cracked... great! So I continued using the surface option happily - another advantage was that the custom guys didn't check as closely as airmail, it seems... often rather expensive packages (in the 200-400$ range) slipped through. So it was a drag when they restricted the surface option to orders below 100$... but so far I was lucky. Some packages still manage to slip through, and I've had no badly damaged ones so far.

Wave has never been reissued since the old jewel case edition, prob. from the late 80s, right? At least that version's still all over the sales... must be one of the longest-in-print Verve discs! Will get that one and "Jobim" from the sales, then (got "Tide" already) - thanks, Bev!

My suggestion: get the "last chance" ones (if they're on your wantlist), if you can/if it suits with shipping costs, add something else (I just ordered both running low ones and threw in the Carter/Bradford Select to get the order just under 300$)... and if you have some extra cash, get some of the not yet running low/newer ones. I've done so in the past few years, have bought the Crusaders, Ellington Small Group, Chu and Braxton from the in-print ones (lots of it not played yet) and managed to get hold of almost all the "last chance" ones in time.
