  1. The final concerts with Joe (by Mat's Pentagon) can be found here: http://www.bengerstein.com/other.html (I hope posting this link is ok - the site hosting the files is by the band's trombone player Ben Gerstein!)
  2. Here's that thing: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats Brief Description Open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations in the file formats new to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displayLang=en I see MS Access isn't mentioned. And Bruce, glad to read your PS, too!
  3. Happy Birthday!
  4. There's a good article on Threadgill in the November issue of The Wire! Just bought and read it yesterday - I guess I'll have to pre-order this box now, sounds really like a ton of great music! I only have a very sketchy knowledge of Threadgill so far: Nessa Air, one of the Columbias, a bunch of boots... and recently got the two ATR CDs, silly I skipped the vinyl - will that one come out on CD as well? I think it says so on the website, but are there any news about that?
  5. Thanks for the reminder - I've had them on my radar for a while! I absolutely need the Harry Miller disc, and whenever I'll actually order, I'll grab a few more... So I don't have any of them so far
  6. I have my huge jazz live shows database in access... about five sheets (the rock/blues/soul etc list is growing quickly as well) with probably 7000 entries, and it works without any problems - I have had Vista for about five weeks now and had no major problems (except for the email stuff described above, and some annyoing warning tones, which - funny enough - come up in Access now and then). If you need help finding the compatibility thingie, let me know - I think I might have the link for it somewhere! But it should be fairly easy to find.
  7. @MG: there's a small compatibility thingie you can install - that will allow you to read those files (they appear as .docx). Go to the Windowsupdate page and look for it, takes three minutes to do and you'll be able to open word and excel files created with new versions of MS Office.
  8. glad you caught it before it went under
  9. Well, stay assured the only swiss jazz fan remembers him and likes this album discussed here a lot! Other than that I have his Terrones/Marge/Blue Marge whatever label disc, "Cattin'" - not as fine, but good enough! Spin TFD right now and it's being played in two Swiss locations at the same time. Sorry I missed this yesterday... was home completely exhausted from work, zapping around and watching boring football on TV
  10. Fat Girl Lady Day Big Mama Thornton or vice versa
  11. Happy Birthday!
  12. Siegfried Bismarck Hitler
  13. I found "At This Time" at the used store yesterday! No time to listen yet, but nice to have it!
  14. I don't know the Japanese edition but I always figured that the two US discs contain all the material there is. One or both of them have been in the massive EMI/Blue Note deletings list a few months ago, I think, just in case...
  15. That Peterson is nice... I got mine for about 15€ and thought that was a great deal already... Some may consider there to be too many notes, though
  16. The main Newbury site says this is back-ordered, but the deal is still up on Amazon. I figure it is worth a shot. That occurs fairly often--Newbury's Amazon Marketplace stock and/or price is not always the same as what's reflected on the Newbury site. Also, mine has apparently shipped! Amazon has switched over to a new procedure for most of its Marketplace sellers (including Newbury), so that it doesn't actually charge your credit card--and send you a notice of same--until it has been notified by the Marketplace seller that the item has actually shipped. The order also displays in your order history as "open," and not "completed," until that occurs. I got one of those charging notices from Amazon today, and the order now shows as "completed." This is a significant improvement to the Marketplace system, although Amazon doesn't seem to have done much to publicize it. I'm not sure about that. After the Mosaic debacle, I've had a couple of orders that were charged a week after ordering, and then another ten days later I got a refund, and I still believe that the item listed was never really in stock with the vendors. I guess if a vendor just tells Amazon to charge, they do so, regardless if the vendor actually has shipped the item or not. Refunds, however, have never been a problem for me, I always got them. But it's still a doubtful business practice in my opinion. But back on topic: seems my Garner box is on its way, too! Cool!
  17. Moby Dick Ahab William Penn
  18. you only want to talk, right?
  19. Nietzsche Schopenhauer Kant
  20. I'd try and find the 2CD "Innovations" band reissue (on Blue Note/Capitol). Almeida is there (but not "Lament"), as are Art Pepper, Shorty Rogers, Maynard Ferguson etc etc. As a supplement, there's also the Graettinger compilation "City of Glass". Then I'd go for some of the 50s discs (Kenton Showcase, Easy Go...) - look for who are the featured soloist and get those with soloists you like.
  21. Yeah, and Michael Jackson on guitar
  22. The KD was also reissued on CD in the Chessmates series. Not sure if it still can be found in that version, but it's worth trying! I still dream of seing Vol. 2 some day...
  23. Thanks for that great write-up - makes me wanna dig out my Knit edition of this set and play that stuff again! And yes Chuck: sure would be great if all of this sounded even half as great as "Saga"!
  24. Those Almeida albums are Brazilliance Vols 1 & 2 (on regular US CDs, that is). Between them the contain, I think, three albums (some ten inchers), Almeida & Bud Shank, backed by Babasin/Harte. Good stuff, and certainly discussed elsewhere! As for "Cuban Fire", I think that's mostly just Kenton's regular band there... these "guest musicians from the west coast" were member of his band! (At one point or the other, they included Frank Rosolino, Bud Shank, Art Pepper, Shorty Rogers, Bob Cooper, Shelly Manne, and many, many others... also non WC guys like Stan Levey, Charlie Mariano, Lee Konitz...)
