Link below to Elusive Disc. They have the Gray/Hoffman mastered Rumours for $24.99. If your total order exceeds $75.00 and you order by May 3rd,, shipping is free. These are the guys who market Blue Note XRCD's and Impulse SACD's. I've done business with them before. Very satisfactory. If you haven't visited this site before, there are lots of swell ways to get rid of some of that lazy cash that just sits around doing nothing. My link

Not sure anyone has ever made two plays like that in a row. Wow. I was "watching" the ninth inning on ESPN's Gamecast, so all I knew was that A-Rod and Cano flied out to right to end the game. Had no idea about the catches. Wow, again.

I'd have to say that when you have four game sevens and two game sixes out of eight playoff match-ups, you've got some pretty evenly matched teams. I'm pulling for the Blackhawks tonight so my Wings will draw Nashville and have home ice advantage. If the Hawks lose, they'll get San Jose instead and lose home ice. Not a pleasant prospect, although Detroit has done O.K. against the Sharks this year.

David, like I said a few days ago, Soriano has the look of one of those guys who can pitch anywhere but in New York. $35 million is an awful lot to pay to figure that out. Dan, while things are definitely looking up for the Sox, you've got to be concerned about Clay Buchholz. He's 1-3 after losing tonight to the O's. He gave up 12 hits in 6 1/3 innings and his ERA now stands at 5.33. If they don't get him right, it's going to be a lot longer season for Boston than it would be otherwise.

I'm tickled pinker every day with Raphael Soriano. Last night he doesn't bother catching a fly ball just behind the mound that a LIttle League pitcher could have handled. This results in an extra, unnecessary run for the White Sox. Tonight, he follows up that effort with a one inning outing during which he surrenders two hits, two runs and a walk and blows the hold. Boy. What a find this guy was.

Sorry to hear this. She was different, but in a good way. I really liked her version of Teach Me Tonight.

Jazz albums w/ backup chorus or small vocal choir...

Ruppli's Savoy discography only gives the following: Recorded May 27, 1954, Chicago (purchased from Parrot label) Coleman Hawkins (ts), with unknown organ, piano, bass, Buddy Smith (drums), vocal choir Thanks for checking. I wonder if anyone really knows. I'm only curious because the organist's sound is a bit off the beaten path. Not anything radical, just kind of different. -

There's a semi-obscure Coleman Hawkins release on Savoy called The Hawk Returns that features an unidentified vocal chorus on two tunes, I'll Follow My Secret Heart and What A Difference A Day Made. Nice album. 12 short tracks. Recorded in 1954. No personnel listed other than Boddy Smith on drums. Would be interested in who the organ player is. Maybe someone who has the Lord Discography could weigh in on this. -
Yes, the little guy is laughing in C major with a diminished 7th.

Saw this this morning on our local news channel. Found it on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic4AjElA6uk

Gotta love the hipster dufus models. 120 lb. barely-there's who couldn't begin to guess what these shirts represented if you teased them with free cocaine for a week.

That fluke goal in the 2nd OT tonight has to absolutely kill the Rangers. I hate seeing games decided like that. Watching Detroit and Phoenix right now. Tied 3-3 halfway through the 3rd period. Go Wings!

The NYT is reporting that Major League Baseball will take over the day to day operations of the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is due to "deep concerns" about the ability of the franchise to continue to operate in its own best interests given the legal issues entangling the McCourt family. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/21/sports/baseball/21dodgers.html?emc=na

Computer Gurus: internet problems

If you ever need to reset your router, take a paper clip and straighten it out. It has a flat end and should fit into the reset switch opening perfectly. -
Oh brother. Someone's been drinking way too much Kool-Aid.

It seems to me if you had two musicians who were equally accomplished within their own chosen genres and one played bop and the other, classical, the difference, and the challenge would arise in terms of playing notes, chords...whatever that are already written as opposed to basically winging it in an improvisational context. Point being, I think Brubeck would have a better shot at successfully dealing with Beethoven than Glenn Gould would have with Take Five. Just my two cents.

Two other questions I'm hoping to get answered tonight: What if Eleanor Roosevelt could fly? What if Julius Caesar owned a Piper Cub? -
From a macro standpoint, it would be difficult to exceed the silliness quotient of this country. Still, I'm not sure there is anything we do here that quite rises to this level of foolishness and yet consumes us in the manner that a royal wedding consumes the Brits. These people serve no constructive purpose, they're not particularly bright, they feed from a diminishing trough of public money...on the dole would not be too far off the mark...all in all they are an anachronism that has no place in modern society. Only one word adequately captures the peculiarity of this phenomena....WHY?

Brian Cashman never wanted to sign Raphael Soriano. Soriano is making him look like a genius. Yanks are up 3-0. In comes Soriano. Now, one out, three hits and a base on balls later, it's 3-2. I could pitch like that for half of what they're paying him. I sure hope we're not looking at another Kenny Rogers or Eric Show or Carl Pavano, guys who could pitch well anyplace other than New York.

"...narrowing the capabilities of the piano." Huh? Bebop/bop requires the ability to improvise on the fly as well as provide accompaniment for those who are doing so. By its very nature this sort of playing demands full and complete control of the keyboard. If it's doing anything, it's expanding the capabilities of the instrument. April Fools Day was two weeks ago. What's up with this?

Leave it to Jerry Seinfeld to put some genuine perspective on the upcoming royal wedding. I'm not trying to be disrespectful by posting this, but the whole thing just strikes me as some sort of strange and peculiar charade. I would be interested in how English Organissimo board members feel about this. Here's what Seinfeld had to say: "Well it's a circus act. It's an absurd act. You know, it's dress-up. Let's pretend that these are special people. OK, we'll all pretend that - that's what theater is. And that's what the royal family is - it's a huge game of pretend. These aren't special people - it's fake outfits, fake phony hats and gowns."

I'll be heading downtown today to see my favorite indie band, Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside. They're playing live as part of the Record Store Day celebration at Every Day Music in Portland.
