  1. I wasn’t aware of that. They did some vinyl reissues in the past decade I believe. Never heard one. I do know that some of them miss essential tracks that the cd does have. Like Johnny Dyani’s Somg for Biko: that one misses the amazing track Lonely Flower at the Village.
  2. an MJQ favorite. Don’t know if it’s his best but definitely among his best. That’s such a great record. Addictive music. Joe made lot of great music for that label back than. Happy to see it spinning on your turntable now Mark enjoy!
  3. When I saw the last vinyl copies sold for 400+ dollars and a cd copy popped up from a Dutch seller I decided to quit my quest for the LP and buy the cd. Contains an extra track as well
  4. He's on a whole lot of Prestige records as a sideman. He was kind of the house pianist. But his playing there is mostly restrained and in a different style than his post 1965 records with a few exceptions when he played with Dolphy. Mal moved more into free territory after 1968 though his music always remained pretty structured. If you're looking for more interesting solo outings than the one you listened to: The Opening (Clifford mentioned this one already) Update (on Soul Note) Meditations: Live at Dug (calmer than the Opening but with a lot of emotional depth) And if you're looking for more of the rhythmic trio music you encountered at the last part of that cd: Black Glory (on Enja with Jimmy Woode Number Nineteen (like A.L.B.O.M. with excellent Dutch musicians and a little more exciting) First Encounter (with Gary Peacock) Blood and Guts (sounds like the title: heavy stuff and rhytmically very interesting) Tokyo Bound (with two excellent Japanese musicians) Free at Last (on ECM but not very ECMish, this is probably his best known)
  5. The previously unreleased Sounds of Liberation stuff. Again with that beautiful artwork.
  6. lovely underrated spiritual Freejazz gem on Baystate. Unfortunate Ruff didn’t make a lot more records except his few appearances as a sideman.
  7. That's Superior Viaduct right? We could hope for a series, but I think it's more because of Joe McPhee this get's reissued. The label has an affiliation with him. Some Steve Lacy or Cecil Taylor reissues would be very nice
  8. I've got the Japanese LP but can't recall any tape speed issues.
  9. Sam Rivers solo
  10. Thats a nice record but hardly his best. If you're curious to get to know his music you might want to check out my blog https://snake-out.blogspot.com/2020/12/all-reviews-by-rating.html This page may be helpful
  11. last one for tonight. Beautiful soundtrack for a movie I’ve never seen.
  12. These Free America Series were among the first Freejazz albums I bought when I was in my teens. Beautiful packaging! Instill consider Free Huey as a modern free jazz classic.
  13. That’s another lovely mosaic set 😍 NP: Sounds lovely Chuck. Is it a boxed set?
  14. Thanks for reading guys. I hope you enjoy the new release as much as I do As I am a little bit familiar with your musical taste now I think you will.
  15. Well it’s been a while since I posted something but of course I had to review the new Sam release. Five stars from me: it’s very very Mal and very very good! https://snake-out.blogspot.com/2024/11/1970-mal-waldron-trio-rat-nowparis-70.html?

    Verve Record Club

They’ll end up on Discogs. For exclusive prices probably
  17. That was my way to go as well but didn’t always had the desired effect. With the lighter fuel you’re able to get the glue residue as well. Definitely worth a try 👍
  18. Now it would be a nice gift this Christmas. My birthday as well. But it probably won’t happen.
  19. I know some people really don’t care for the condition of their sleeves. I do like to keep them as neat as possible and if there’s one thing I really hate it’s ugly unremovable stickers. And with unremovable I mean the whole sleeve gets damaged as you’re trying to peel it off…. I tried something I learned from a YouTube video and it worked like magic I must say. The secret ingredient is lighter fuel. You need to soil the sticker for 3 minutes than carefully remove the stickers. As soon as you feel it don’t come off repeat the treatment. I managed to remove an ugly green sticker from my Noah Howard Live In Berlin LP without a trace
  20. I’ll write a detailed review on my blog and will definitely share here of course
  21. This just arrived in the mail from France ❤️ carefully packed. Can’t wait but have to until Thursday to give it a a spin. The gatefold looks lovely. Very excited for this.
  22. Funny you mention this Gheorghe as I had a similar experience at the Bimhuis in somewhere like 2008. Mr. Sanders just finished his diner and sat right beside me. I brought me a copy of Village of the Pharoahs with me for the occasion but when I had the chance I didn’t dare to ask. He had such an expressive and serious face I feared he might get angry I bothered him with something like a signature while he was drinking his drink with his band. After this I’ve heard he was a very kind and warm personality and always regretted I did not ask him. Now playing my probably most cherished boxed set: CD1: the unissued sessions with no less than Charles Tolliver, Pat Patrick, Bennie Maupin, Ron Carter and Ben Riley. My God this is good.
  23. From you that’s all I need to know 👍
