Sorry you’re right about that I’d like to hear that session but as you mentioned it doesn’t justify the price nor the weird combination with that ‘compilation by modern Blue Note artists.

This one is not noisy that’s for sure. Never heard this one before. I like side A a lot. Side B is considerably less interesting imo

First one. Sounds great!

Okay the box arrived and first impressions are…. very good! They did one hell of a job here. Nice solid material, well printed, nice Obis, beautiful booklet, more beautiful session photography with each individual LP. This boxed set deserves an A+ for esthetics, love and care. Tend to listen to all of the music and will report after I heard them all but this looks very promising. And so nice to now have all these very hard to get sessions all at once!

It’s scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I’ll probably won’t have time to listen for a while but keep you guys informed.

As I am not in the business it’s hard for me to make a good judgement. But the article makes it feel like as an artist/producer you are obliged to go with the whole streaming thing and bringing out a physical release isn’t profitable anymore? As Jim mentioned 250 records sounds to break even sounds like a pretty reachable goal. After all the market has also expanded with internet and stuff. And was the situation ever better? Guys like Charles Gayle and Sonny Simmons were living on the streets in the non streaming era. I thought that record sales were doing pretty good last years. If you can’t make a living out of it how come so many of it still is released? And I am not only thinking about Blue Note and big companies. The Byard Lancaster box by Soufflé Continu comes to mind for instance. Just some sincere questions.

1969 recording session with Barre Philips on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums. This was intended to be released by BYG that very year but was released by Affinity in 1984. It’s a great session with some intense en percussive playing by the whole band.

That’s a great one Chuck with a legendary band including Don Cherry, Hamiet Bluiett, Johnny Dyani, John Betsch, Roy Brooks and Carlos Ward. The Hajj is one hypnotic trip. Do you know ‘African Space Program’? That’s a record with some similarities to this one. Also highly recommended.

Oh my…. 🤩 I knew this was coming and contacted Fred lately about it but here it is. This was a very strong period for Mal. Great compositions chosen. I don’t know the other two musicians but I’ve learned to know that with Mal they are mostly a surprise in a very positive way. I could see the disappointment for the vinyl only by some if that ain’t your thing. Sam is an excellent label though run with love and craftsmanship so this music is getting the treatment it deserves

The reissues are getting expensive but are still affordable. This one was pressed by Gotta Groove and sounds great

That’s a great one. I’d add these two: Both reflecting/highlighting two of the many styles he was playing in.

I’m somewhere between felser and sidewinder on this. Yes it’s a small company doing awesome projects. That’s why I like supporting them. I have good faith everything is gonna be alright. But they could really improve their communication and it might help to stop making promises that will be broken eventually. What’s the point of asking for payment of shipping fees if you’re not shipping the product in the coming 3 months? I could have used the money for other stuff in the meanwhile….

Yeah that’s a great record and Mal plays lovely on it. I don’t think it will bother me as well with McCoy it was just something I noticed. I do wonder if Keith Jarrett would have played it 🤪
