  1. I am 32 years old now. I bought my first Mosaics when I was in my late 20's probably. The Hill and Tolliver Selects.... Great stuff of course. I hate the fact I missed all of their vinyl releases with which they started. I bought the Mulligan/Baker and Getz Roost vinyl sets last year. There is still one set on my wishlist: the Art Pepper Small Group set. I pity the fact that they only do cd's (like other pity some labels that only do vinyl). And in these times it just might be not a very smart thing to do from a commercial point of view.
  2. some excellent pacific jazz stuff!
  3. thé new Acoustic Sounds issue. Sounds incredible….
  4. pretty damn good record with Billy Harper, Cecil Bridgewater and George Mraz. Klaus Weiss made some great records! Can’t say I really dig the artwork but that’s a matter of taste probably.
  5. That’s an offer you can’t refuse. Great record, great pressing
  6. Yeah I agree on that. That LP side long blues is the best part of the record. I’ve got the IPI vinyl version which is also excellent. You’ll probably like it
  7. with Cecil Bridgewater, Onaje Allan Gumbs, Cecil McBee and Joe Chambers and Mtume.
  8. Oh yes that’s a great recording. One of the more underexposed recordings by Shaw.
  9. with Roland Alexander, Charles Tolliver, Stanley Cowell and Andrew Cyrille.
  10. Mr. Hayes is still with us
  11. Joe McPhee - The Underground Railroad
  12. Very, very cool! Congrats on bringing this out.
  13. Looking forward to all of them. Ali is really one my favorite drummers. The last two records where I was pleasantly surprised by his company were Marion Browns Why Not and Jackie McLeans ‘Bout Soul. He always bring a certain energy to the music en even when he’s all over the place the structure and rhythm remains there.
  14. this one is so incredibly good. You could easily picked it up from a used bin for 10 euros. I did anyway.
  15. Such a great record. Hope it could be of help on your Waldron quest! I am pretty sure you are going to enjoy that Blood and Guts recording. It has the same energy as Number Nineteen.
  16. Oh yes my mistake. I always mix those two up. They are both excellent bass players by the way.
  17. another excellent one from these series. With Junior Cook on tenor sax, Woody Shaw on piano, Ronnie Matthews on piano, Stafford James on bass and of course Louis on drums.
  18. More McLean from ‘the shelf’.
