  1. love the Noah Howard. The Black Ark is a classic recording from the ‘60’s scene.
  2. No official records at least. Don’t know bout bootlegs. Reggie does not play on confirmation. That’s Calvin Hill on bass.
  3. I thought again about what you said David but isn’t it true that with these releases, at least somebody is releasing it and offering Mr. Harper some compensation for his incredible music. Apparently en very unfortunately none of these bigger labels is interested anymore in releasing it. After all: they only release music for its market potential. Or is this to easy thinking of me?
  4. I could see what you mean David. For all I know is that Sam always release this stuff in an agreement with the artist himself. Or do you think that Harper agreed to make at least some, money? By the way: if you and The Cookers ever make another European tour, please to not skip the Netherlands. The two last shows were cancelled due to COVID. I really hope I will be able to see you guys play! Wel you’ve lost me there.
  5. If you rip the LP and share the files with friends, that is illegal as far as I know?
  6. Well to those sharing those illegal FLACS: enjoy them! Have to say mr. Thomas does not deserve it. His products truly show craftmanship and love for the music. Of course it’s his choice how to release his music, as it’s also the choice of some copies to release on cd only. I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to attempt an illegal digital file simply because I don’t want to buy cd’s. But that’s my humble opinion. I feel mostly like something fellow board member Clifford Allen said. Something like: I’ll buy it whatever the format is as long as the music is good. And this music is very good!
  7. Gave my copy a spin today and it’s very, very good. Harper at his best. The sound is magical. The added booklet insert is beautifully done too with interesting liners and nice photographs. Really I could imagine if you haven’t got a turntable anymore you’re not going to buy it (it wouldn’t be of any use haha). But if you still have one, I would really reconsider and buy it. You’re missing some very good music if you don’t.
  8. Plenty of copies avaible on Discogs
  9. Fortunately people don’t have to spend this ridiculous amounts of money. The reissue I bought seems legit as it is promoted on Jamal’s own Bandcamp page
  10. Yup it’s great. Just ordered and hopefully it will arrive tomorrow!
  11. It’s on my wishlist but it is very rare unfortunately. Fantastic music and a very accessible one too.

It’s definitely not a saxophone mouthpiece (I played sax myself) but I don’t know what it is. I do think it is Cyrille who is making the sound.
  14. I know they sound great Brad, but here on the other side of the ocean they cost around 50 to 60 euros. No way I am going to pay that amount of money for a single LP that I already have on cd. Now that I am checking more Impulse! releases, it really seams an Impulse! thing to reissue so few on vinyl. A Back to Black or Music on Vinyl series would be awesome.
  15. Those AP’s are nice but a little too expensive for me. Why doesn’t Impulse! reissue those albums themselves? The market potential is pretty big if you ask me. A nice vinyl reissue of Meditations, Sun Ship or Transition: that stuff would definitely sell.
  16. Quite contrary to a lot of board members, vinyl is my format of preference. I’ve got pretty much all of Coltrane’s work on cd and my Impulse! Collection is definitely complete. What surprised me when I was diggin out his discography on Discogs is that Impulse! vinyl reissues from the last 10 years are very rare. That really surprised me as the format made a revival and Coltrane is among the most popular jazz artists. Of course with a few ezceptions like A Love Supreme. of course it’s a matter of time before we got some crappy PD reissues but why are there so few Impulse! Vinyl reissues. Is it the Coltrane estate that does not want them to be released?

Thanks! But for me it really is about caputring the guys in real life.

Both concerts in Holland got cancelled. The first in march 2020, the postponed in 2021 also. Really makes me sad as it could be a last opportunity to see these guys live...
  19. Some impressions from my last great journey with my wife before my son was born. Tibet 2017: it really was one of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited.
  20. Yeah it’s true. But the whole job makes up a lot for it
  21. Thanks, can’t wait to give them a spin still overthinking my strategy...
  22. I work as a high school teacher with kids with behavioral issues. Or kids with special educational needs. Believe it or not but we make less money than ordinary teachers. To compensate we receive some kind of bonus this month. Time to treat myself (please do not tell my wife): All on brand new vinyl Except for the Chick that's a used one.
  23. Is there no one with a LP from these series?
  24. Digging and exploring the Discogs database I see lots of pretty affordable LP issues on weird sublabels. But the main label is mostly Blue Note, OJC or Verve for example. These issues seem to have released with magazines. There is a British one: https://www.discogs.com/label/956425-Jazz-At-3313-rpm An Italian: https://www.discogs.com/label/605960-Jazz-33-Giri A French: https://www.discogs.com/label/519275-Vinyles-De-Jazz A Spanish: https://www.discogs.com/label/1815605-Vinilos-Miticos-Del-Jazz And I saw some Portuguese too. The stuff seems legit but I am mostly wondering: how do they sound? Anyone having any experience with them?
