  1. Concerto is not what it used to be. They moved Jazz from a basement to upstairs together with classical I think. Much less space now that these two are joined. At the far wall are the toilets. The living room style door stands ajar, so you'll be enjoying all sorts of smells when browsing their qualitywise highly diluted shelves. No thank you.
  2. Smokestack, sounds best on CD on the Mosaic set IMO.
  3. Japanese production values is what made me buy the SHM-CD.
  4. We all have shelves full of 35 min. albums. I think your objection is more reasonable.
  5. I think I like it better than the one from The Stardust Session that Sidewinder says is from the same shoot. The largest size JPG file looks very good. I'm sorry to hear you won't be getting Blue World.
  6. I'm glad it's not.
  7. Perhaps Sony will release one of those Complete Bylsma box sets in the near future? (Until then there is bittorrent to sample the HM Servais disc as included in the OOP box set you mentioned.)
  8. I ordered a copy of the SHM-CD from CD Japan. One of their 'initially supplied quantity', so at least it will ship 27 September at the latest.
  9. I have never heard of that album. I see this is from 1988 and so predates the Schubert quintet (D956) recording on Sony Classical (1990).
  10. Pollini, because I'll be playing nothing but Igor Levit for a while once his complete Beethoven piano sonatas box arrives next month.

  12. In ultrasonic.
  13. And how do DJs manage to scratch on a CD turntable anyway?
  14. Naima starts at 1:54.
  15. Unless you're a snob with tunnel vision and an inflated ego.
  16. If it wasn't for reissues of classic albums by Miles, Coltrane, etc. I would likely never have discovered the current working musicians you admire so much. And I'm sure "commercially inspired dredging" is too strong a term for what's on offer here. Actually, revisiting older material in the studio in this context at that point in time between Crescent and A Love Supreme sounds quite interesting.
  17. You such a pauper you can't afford both?
  18. This title is currently on back order at the Dutch Jazz Archive's website. Should be back in stock before long.
  19. RIP The first classical CDs I ever bought in the late nineties were by Bylsma. Schubert: Quintet in C major (D956) and Bach: Suites for Violoncello Solo on Sony Classical. I consequently remembered I had seen a short interview/documentary on Dutch tv earlier that decade about Bylsma about to travel to New York to record the Bach suites on the famous Servais instrument from the Smithsonian Collection. It seemed back then it might perhaps be a good place to start listening to classical music, but I later forgot all about it.
  20. I'm not crazy about soundtrack albums either, but I'll be getting the SHM-CD. The sample track sounds good. Should be a more interesting release than Both Directions at Once: The Lost Album.
  21. Sonny Rollins Newk's Time (Blue Note 75th anniversary SHM-CD)
  22. I feel the Duke Trane pairing on Impulse! is an almost complete dud. I have never really liked it, but I don't hate it like the Ballads album. I did get the APO Hybrid SACD of the Duke album back when exchange rates were much more favourable for around €20. Good value, but little played.
