  1. is this good? What's it like? It's a great one. One of my favourites from Big John. I have the cd, definitely recommened. ok just bought a mint copy off discogs for $20...cheap enough to try and the presence of Moncur is the big draw for me!
  2. Is that Roswell Rudd and Allan Praskin in that video!?
  3. La Monte Young " the black record" (edition x, Germany)
  4. Great choices. "Flute music" is also well worth getting if you do not have it. I just finished spinning that Hemphill LP myself as your post inspired me to play it again. The music is excellent, but to me it suffers a bit due to that typical Black Saint tinny/trebly production. Right now: Black Unity Trio "al-fatihah" (salaam). Probably one of my favorite free jazz albums ever...if I ever did my own "top ten free jazz list" a la Thurston Moore then this would definitely be on it.
  5. Terje Rypdal "Rypdal/Vitous/DeJohnette" (ECM, Germany) Enrico Rava "the plot" (ECM, Germany)
  6. Harmonia "musik Von harmonia" (green Brain orig, Germany) Harmonia "deluxe" (green Brain orig, Germany) Two old favorites; spun them both as it's been many years since I dug them out of the racks...
  7. You got the era right for track 12! I saw that Douglas/Sclavis band live and they killed it...it's a good disc. track 16 is not Hino but you "are getting warm" with that guess
  8. I'm sure you have plenty of records/CDs by two of the musicians on track one as sidemen! That's my only clue... Indeed track 6 is off the Springboard album; good ears Clifford! Americans in Europe is not a close guess for 7 I'm afraid. Track 8 is not British.. Track 9 is not ICP-related but I can see/hear why you could guess that.. correct on track 10!
  9. Interesting guess but that's incorrect!
  10. I think there's a slightly later pressing on mps/BASF that might be cheaper when it turns up? The whole record is great IMO...
  11. Yes Tony Scott off the Saba album "Djangerbali"..
  12. You are correct! You got good ears! Any guesses or comments on the remaining tracks?
  13. I have an audiophile friend who owns the entire 45rpm series so I have heard it and agree it sounds fantastic! I also have the King pressing, a stereo orig, and the old Connoisseur CD...
  14. Nice! Just have a French BYG issue of this..a good reminder to upgrade to an original. I do have a minty original of his other Savoy date with Archie Shepp. Earlier: Jackie McLean "destination out" (Blue Note, mono NY USA) it took me about 3 or 4 copies, but I finally found a truly mint copy with no clicks or pops or crackles! Call me obsessive, but this is one of my all time favorite blue notes and I needed a perfect copy! Right now: Freedom Unity "something" (Liberty, Japan red vinyl promo copy). A heavy Japanese rarity..a recent acquisition. Killer album...
  15. I wonder why he was able/allowed to release that recent unissued solo material then?
  16. Lucky! I briefly talked to him about buying something but in those days I didn't have much money to offer so I never got serious about it I'm afraid.
  17. I corresponded with Bill a few times via email and found him to be really generous and kind. His paintings were/are wonderful as well..one day I'd love to buy one. "Intents and purposes" was one of the first free jazz albums I bought well over 20 years ago...
  18. Very cool! So that's like 8 years before I was born I used a track off his "sun song" album for my earlier BFT...
  19. I put a Greenwich track on my first BFT from a year or so ago. Both Bhreandain and I are Canadian too which maybe helps our awareness of him?
