  1. Has anyone here played a Ken Lindermere guitar? Just played one at a friends place a few weeks ago...has a really weird body shape. Very interesting guitar...made in Chile. I'm still digging my Hagstrom super swede...plays and sounds great through either my '71 super reverb or my '48 champion 800. I can't handle unorthodox body shapes like that Lindermere...just doesn't feel comfortable to me.
  2. Alex Von Schlippenbach "the living music" (Quasar, Germany) Peter Brotzmann "Machine Gun" (1st FMP reissue with BRO label stamps, Germany)
  3. A few records played quietly while my toddler sleeps: Black Renaissance "s/t" (Baystate, Japan) Hamet Bluiett "Resolution" (Black Saint, Italy) Both "B" records as I try to catalog my collection during naps
  4. Grant Green "idle moments" (music matters 33 rpm Blue Note reissue)
  5. But do you have the UK or French Fontanas, the Dutch Philips or the UK orange label? Haha...
  6. John Tchicai "afrodisiaca" (MPS, Germany) Yamashta & the Horizon "sunrise from west sea" (London, Japan) Toshi Ichiyanagi, Michael Ranta, Takehisa Kosugi "improvisation Sept. 75" (Iskra, Japan original)
  7. Miles Davis "kind of blue" (Columbia USA 6-eye stereo) I also have a 6-eye mono, a Canadian 6-eye stereo, a Japanese Sony issue, the anniversary box set, the Columbia legacy CD, and the SACD of this title. A bit crazy but it's not that bad of an album
  8. When I went to Iceland around 6 years ago I was made aware of a local 'treat' which was essentially a sheep's head served on a plate. Needless to say I passed
  9. What are the markings of an original issue? My cover looks the same but is missing the Paul Haines booklet and I'm not sure what pressing/label details constitute a first pressing..
  10. Hard to believe...50 years already....I bought my first LP copy around 23 years ago. I now own 2 CD versions and 2 different LP versions....an inspiring album. An old friend of mine bought "Outward bound" when it was released back in the early 60s and I just visited him a few weeks ago to bring him the recent Japanese SHM CD version of it. Good music never gets old.
  11. Roswell Rudd "Blown Bone" (Philips, Japan)...a very varied session with Steve Lacy, Paul Motion, Enrico Rava, etc..always a fascinating listen each time I pull it off the shelf! Steve Lacy "The Wire" (Denon, Japan)...perhaps my favorite group Lacy record? The best version of "Esteem" in my opinion is on here. I paid an arm and a leg for this nearly 10 years ago but I don't regret a cent...an amazing album and if it were to be ever reissued on CD I'd be first in line to buy that too. Maybe it's because I'm also a big fan of Masahiko Togashi and alot of other Japanese free jazz, but this particular era of Steve Lacy(stalks, solo at mandara, etc) is probably my favorite. Jan Garbarek "Paths, Prints" (ECM, USA)...finally a record that doesn't get played very often but should be...even though I prefer the first few Garbarek outings on ECM this record has an all-star backing band of Bill Frisell, Eberhard Weber, and Jon Christensen. I'm not the biggest Bill Frisell fan in the world, but I have nearly everything Weber and Christensen have played on...first class musicians all the way!
  12. As a Canadian I grew up watching SCTV so this is sad news....was a big fan of that show.
  13. Sad news. My wife and I did the "sound of music" tour in Salzburg as part of our honeymoon in addition to spending time in Vienna and the Greek Islands. It was a fun tour and I've always had a soft spot for that film...good, clean entertainment which seems to be a rarity these days.
  14. Probably Han Bennink; since 1993 I've seen him at least 20 times.
  15. Ash Ra Tempel "s/t" (pdu, Italy) R.N.A. Organism "RNA meets POPO" (vanity, Japan) Masayuki Takayanagi "experimental performance with John Zorn" (mobys, Japan)
  16. Amancio D'Silva "integration" (Columbia, UK) for starters..more to come...wife and child are away overnight so Dad can stay up late and crank the stereo up a bit
  17. Masahiko Sato & Wolfgang Dauner "Pianology" (Express, Japan) Freddie Redd "The Connection" (Blue Note, w63rd mono USA) Jackie McLean "Let Freedom Ring" (Blue Note, NY mono USA)
  18. There's footage from "the connection" and a short B&W clip that looks to be from the late 50s or early 60s as well
  19. I just watched this for the first time on YouTube last night and found it fascinating. Worth checking out for those who have not seen it and are fans of McLean. I found him to be very passionate and emotional much like his playing...great early footage too.
  20. That is crazy--that's a $25 record. Still sealed = probably warped. Yup...I stay away from sealed records...maybe the sticker is worth a lot?
  21. I've said it a number of times on this board, but I preordered "outward bound" and got it a few months back...it really sounds incredible. So much so I got an old friend, who bought the original lp when it came out in 1961 or so, to buy it himself as it was always his favorite album!
  22. I hear you and often I think that could very well prove to be true, however, these things are hard to predict.
  23. Not too surprised; seems like 2 people really wanted it and had deep pockets. It was a very nice copy...I know if I were rich I would not blink at paying this type of money for records I wanted. Forget the Ferrari - give me some original blue notes!
  24. Fond memories myself of early records...got many great albums from Hiroshi!
