  1. You're probably hearing the Moog synthesizer playing the melody, which the guitar starts.
  2. Bruce, so happy you're doing so great! Keep it up!
  3. Who's talking about soap operas? I was talking about sporting events like football and basketball that air in the middle of the afternoon. I think I should be able to watch the game with my daughter without having to turn the channel briefly to avoid some nasty preview for Saw V or whatever.
  4. Bobby Brown?
  5. Speaking of Super Bowl ads or ads that run during sporting events, I have to say ever since I've had kids I'm more upset at some of the crap that gets advertised during the afternoon. Like horror movies. I don't really want my four year old seeing the preview of some sick horror movie, thank you very much. I think it's gotten a bit out of hand. After 9pm is one thing, but at 2 in the afternoon, I don't think those ads should be run. Call me a curmudgeon.
  6. C'mon, Allen. That makes too much sense. Try harder to be more obtuse.
  7. Greatest 70s Power Ballads... ...oh... TimeLESS records. I thought you said Time Life. Carry on.
  8. I think it's ironic that it's supposedly coming from Quincy Jones.
  9. Vibes are such a cool instrument. Congrats! I've been playing more piano / electric piano lately, when it comes to practice time anyway. It's nice to approach a different instrument for a bit and then come back to the B3.
  10. Thanks, Evan! I am particularly fond and proud of that track, so I'm happy to know you like it.
  11. I wonder how they are getting around the FCC rules for webcasting.
  12. I think Bird did a version in '52 or there-abouts.

  14. Well, that's what I get for learning the tune from the Don Patterson / Sonny Stitt CD... it's in the key of G and silly me, I didn't realize that was a bad key for altos (since that's what Sonny is playing on this cut). So we pulled it out tonight when a local saxophonist sat in and afterwards he said, "Wow... I've never heard it played in that key. That was TOUGH!" So Sonny just did that to fuck with people, I guess! I want to learn it in all keys anyway, so... onto the piano!
  15. The review is up on our website, for those who are curious. http://www.organissimo.org/press_pages/downbeat.htm I finally got a real copy of the magazine today thanks to Jenn Ruban-Gentile, their ad person. I could not find the Dec. issue at any of the local bookstores. They had the November issue, then went straight to the January. But she kindly sent me one.
  16. http://www.grcmc.org/about/news.php?news_item_id=454 We're nominated for 6 WYCE Jammie Awards for Groovadelphia. Here's one more category we could win. If you feel like voting, we'd muchly appreciate it.
  17. Manufacturing makes up the smallest percentage of the actual cost of making an album. The big chunk comes from paying the musicians, paying the studio, paying the producer (if there is one), paying the licensing fees for covers, paying the artist for the artwork and layout, paying for radio and print promo, etc. You can print up 1000 CDs for about $1000. But good luck selling them if the material is recorded badly, has no promotion, etc.
  18. Heehee. The real video is at: Which is better?
  19. I can only assume iTunes was starting to lose ground to Rhapsody and other download sites. I know that I usually download material from Amazon just because the bitrate is usually higher and there's no DRM. The price is comparable. I don't think $.99 is out of line for a single tune. I do like it when the entire album is priced less than the cost of individually downloading the tracks.
  20. I like to play it in a 6/8 gospel feel. We just played it this past Sunday. Great song!
  21. Interesting discussion. I caught the tail end of it. I thought it was interesting how many callers and emailers mentioned Jimmy Smith and how much they love the organ sound. Does Blue Note even have an organ player on the roster now? Note to Mr. Lundvall: organissimo is here.
  22. Tsk tsk! Yeah, I know. I won't even mention the other standards I don't really know. It's a terrible tragedy. DUDE! You rock! Thank you!
  23. Did Larry quip "Yo, I gotta shout out to my boyz at the Big O listening now on the innernet, dawgs!! WOOF WOOF!"?
