  1. Oh boy! And hasn't Rodney Jones improved? Wonder when it was done. MG I don't think that's Rodney Jones since the video states it is "Mel Henderson" and Lonnie Smith and the poster has two other movies up from the same club, same date, with Yoron Israel on drums. That must mean Mel Henderson is the guitarist.
  2. Yeah, I heard about this on NPR. It just makes you feel proud watching it, even if you don't care about the team. It ain't over until it's over. Pistons proved that last night, too!
  3. No we did not play in Amsterdam, we just passed through on our way to Israel. But we've love to!
  4. My wife and I couldn't believe it. It was a once in a lifetime shot.
  5. Makes sense to me. My buddy just got a new 42" plasma and while the HD channels look incredible, the non-HD ones (which are many) look terrible. Digital compression artifacts galore and a real fuzzy picture. My wife and I have one TV: We got it free from her uncle and its a RCA 27" from 1983. I don't plan on "updating" any time soon.
  6. Heat: 38-32 Pistons: 45-25 I was about to switch the channel on the Pistons / Nuggets game because the Pistons were down 3 points with 1.6 seconds to go and the Nuggets were inbounding the ball. Incredibly, the Pistons stole the inbounds pass and 'Sheed launch a 3 from WAY beyond halfcourt that actually went in, to force OT. Incredible! Pistons went on to win the game.
  7. Uh... yeah. Solid state didn't really come on the scene until the late 1950s and cars had radios before then, so what else would they use?
  8. My dad always spoke with fondness of finding a station out of Memphis late at night when he was a kid that played "race records". It opened up his ears, that's for sure!
  9. I don't know how to do podcasting. Suppos I could do some research...
  10. Oops... too late! Yes, definitely War.
  11. I know the song, but I can't place it.
  12. Like I said, I'm not complaining. Being a full-time musician means I can be a stay-at-home dad to my daughter, something I would not trade for all the money in the world. When I was growing up my dad worked his ass off so my mom could stay home and raise the seven of us. I think it is important to have a parent at home, but all too often people can't afford to do so and that's a shame. I don't really care about money. As long as we have enough to pay the bills and put food on the table, I'm happy. It has never been a goal of mine to be rich. So I guess I'm a success!
  13. Hey Weizy, have fun in Amsterdam! It's a cool city!
  14. does this mean that the only musicians that survive on music are those that are in the educational field or give a lot of private lessons, or the few that are plugged into the system? Pretty much. To paraphrase Corey Christiansen, who I played with last December, the only way for a jazz musician to make it these days is to teach. I don't teach because I am self-taught and I don't really know how to explain the things I know. Plus there are not too many people who want to play jazz organ. Thankfully, my wife has a decent job with benefits, but even she hasn't gotten a cost of living increase in 2 years (due to poor management at the top). But that's another story. I just sold one of my Hammond organs yesterday so we could pay the mortgage. The gig scene has been absolutely awful since the first of the year. I've played a grand total of 7 gigs since 2007 started. But that has more to do with Michigan's terrible economy than anything else. I should go into demolition. I just read they are going to raze two more GM plants here in town. EDIT: To say I'm not complaining. This is the life I chose and I enjoy playing music.
  15. How about this one: As a musician, my average take-home pay for a gig is about $125. That's what my dad was making as a musician back in the 70s.
  16. I'm a snipe master. No programs for me, just reflexes and timing!
  17. The comments are awesome.
  18. Rotoni with chicken & black olives in an alfredo sauce (or is that alfredson sauce?) and green beans for Zora and I tonight. Momma has a late meeting.
  19. Is she ho'ing out yet?
  20. Couldn't watch the game due to rehearsal, but I'm not surprised the Pistons lost without Billups. However, I am surprised it was as close as it was. Rip missing five free throws in a row?! That's unbelievable.
  21. Lesson learned a long time ago: Don't buy anything from Best Buy.
  22. I love me some Johnnie Taylor. Thanks for the heads-up, I'll be picking this one up for sure!
  23. The horribly boring shit that gets hired to play restuarant gigs for $25 a man?
