YouTube, Google Hit with $1B copyright suit
Jim Alfredson replied to Lazaro Vega's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Technically it already is. Any time you play a recording, that's a "performance" and if anyone who doesn't own the recording is in earshot, they owe royalties. -
The guy contradicts himself a lot in that article, especially with the deleted paragraph. Why Americans don't like jazz: Most Americans are not musicians. Jazz basically turned into music for musicians, not music for the people. Couple that with the fact that people are not musically educated hardly at all these days (or educated in the arts in general) and you get a public that doesn't care. I also believe the fact that people are constantly inundated with music has something to do with it as well. But education is the primary culprit. In a country where a hack like Donna Dewberry can sell millions of copies of her atrocious "One Stroke Painting" book, and have her own TV show, what do you expect? Taste is quickly becoming passe.

Ah, but what about records that are not perfectly in tune to begin with? Remember, analog tape stretches, machines differ in calibration, and many times what is on vinyl, even on a perfectly spinning turntable, will not be precisely in tune. It's enough to drive you MAD! -

Very unlikely... Guy And everyone thought the Mavs would roll over the Heat last year. Look at the match-ups between Detroit and Dallas. Both Tay and 'Sheed can give Dirk's offense hell. Billups can abuse Terry... in fact, Billups can post up against any point guard in the league and is basically unstoppable when he decides to be. The only one who can guard him is Baron Davis, who has a similar build and playing style. Billups has been struggling lately with his shot, which is why Detroit has had some loses, but he got it back on Sunday. We'll see if its still there tonight. Rip is another one who is extremely difficult to guard for an entire game. He is constantly using screens, constantly running without the ball. I can't see anyone on the Mavs squad stopping him for an entire game, much less a 7 game series. C-Webb has given the Pistons another 15-20 points a game, plus some of the rebounding that they lost with Big Ben. The Mavs are a good team, but I do not think they are mentally tough yet. When they start to lose, they start to lose bad. If the Pistons can get under their skin (and I think they can), they will beat them in a 7 game series. I have no doubt.

Despite the Mavs record, they are beatable. I am not surprised the got beat by the Warriors... Davis is tough. Frankly, Detroit matches up really well with them and could beat them in a 7 game series. 'Sheed gives Dirk hell on the floor. That would be a great finals!

Volkher, I haven't given up... just haven't had time to try it. It's going to take a LONG time to go through this huge database. I'll probably do it when I update the software to version 2.2.2 (which will be soon). Don't lose hope! -

Another tidbit: I just put up a video culled from some footage of the 2006 Detroit International Jazz Festival. Enjoy! -
Why not a place where the musicians of the forum
Jim Alfredson replied to porcy62's topic in Forums Discussion
I already started the topic and its pinned in the Musicians Forum. -
A fellow member came up with the idea of a central place where musicians who frequent this board can post about their CDs and other music. This thread will serve as that place. Self-promotion rules here, so don't be afraid to link to your CD, reviews, etc. I hope most everyone here knows by now that organissimo is not just a forum but first and foremost a band. We have two CDs out, available from CDBaby and Amazon.com. You can check out our homepage for more information. We're currently in the planning/rehearsal/writing stage of our next project. It's gonna be loads of fun. For even more fun, check us out on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=organissimo There are three videos up on YouTube. I'll be putting up some more very soon (probably one this afternoon, in fact.) I should mention I am also the musical director / keyboardist for a great blues band called Root Doctor. We have a CD out as well that has gotten a lot of positive press, available at CDBaby and Amazon.com. We're currently tracking a new one. Member GregN here on the board is the guitarist/mover & shaker in the group. Okay, fellow musicians. Your turn!

I don't see why this can't be started in the Musician's Forum. It's a good idea. -
That's funny! Almost as good as the guy that plays the flute and beatboxes at the same time.

I agree wholeheartedly. A perfect digital copy?!? Are these people out of their minds?! Internet streams are at best low quality with lossy compression and at worst completely shitty (like 64kbps streams that most radio stations use). That doesn't mean people won't listen, but they are certainly NOT perfect digital copies of CDs. Ridiculous. That's true, but I have a very decent sounding digital recording of Organissimo's performance on Blue Lake a year or two ago. I just ran Goldwave while the show streamed and the results are more than listenable. It can sound decent, but I guarantee its not as good as the CD of said performance I have here sitting on my desk. And it certainly is not a "perfect digital copy".

Well, I just changed the cartridge (it's light magenta that is not showing up at all) and cleaned several more times and still nothing. I just printed something on it two days ago and it was fine. Go figure. I really don't want to spend money on a new printer, especially since I'm broke, but what are you gonna do? Gotta print press kits!
-
Well, my Epson R200 just took a dump. One of the 6 colors is not printing at all and I've cleaned the heads multiple times. It could be from using non-OEM ink in it, as the Epson's are supposed to be very finicky about that, compared to other manufacturers. I've only had this printer for about a year and half, two years tops, but I've printed a lot of things. Even if it was the non-OEM ink that killed it, in the long run I still saved money, since Epson ink is so expensive it's like buying a new printer every time you replace the catridges anyway. I think I'm going to go with HP this time around.

That's what I'm talking about. The Cavs are a horrible free-shooting team (last in the league at 68%). Their free-throws were even worse last night, as you mentioned. So, the Pistons are down by 3 with about 20 seconds left, Flip calls a timeout, and what does he draw up? A top of the arch screen for Rasheed who hoists a 3-pointer that misses, which shouldn't be surprising because 'Sheed and Chauncey missed almost every three they took last night (I think 'Sheed made one... I don't think Chauncey made any). WHY!? Drive to the basket, get a 2 point shot up, maybe it falls, you get fouled, shoot the free-throw, game tied. Worst case scenario you miss, no foul, so you instantly foul one of the Cavs horrible free-throw shooters (ie, any of them), which stops the clock, and you try again. Just friggin' stupid coaching.

A tragic death today in Lansing...
Jim Alfredson replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Wow, that's a heavy piece by Lawrence. Thanks, Joe. -
I think it's official: Flip Saunders is at best a mediocre coach, at worst, way over his head. The end of OT in tonight's game against the Cavs was extremely poorly managed and coached. Frustratingly so. I don't think the Pistons will be able to win another championship with Flip at the helm.

I just want to thank everyone for their help. I won't be bothering you for a few months, since we raised about $500! That will help offset things for at least three, maybe four months. Thank you!
