  1. Frankly, I find this on-going "My dad can beat up your dad" bullcrap between Heatwave and Dan to be tiresome and harmful to the board. Is it impossible to discuss sports without resorting to name-calling, profanities, and insults? Dan, in light of the issues you are having that you brought up publicly on this board, I would like to suggest, as a friend, that you step back for a few weeks, work on your relationship, and give this board a rest. There are more important things in life than fighting with some twit who goes by a pseudonym and thinks of himself as a baseball mastermind on an internet board. Take some time off, work on the problems in your life, and come back later when things are in a better state. I wanted to say the same thing on the thread you started about these issues, but in a more curt way (ie, "Dan, get the hell of the computer and go talk to your wife instead of posting about it!") Again, I say these things as a friend and as someone who spends far too much time on the computer (I used to be worse!) Heatwave, I'm going to infer that you are young enough not to have had personal experience with cancer. You obviously have not had a loved one or a close friend become afflicted and/or die from this horrible disease, or else you wouldn't use such disgusting, hurtful, and callous language. Either that or you are an asshole. Or maybe both. Regardless, it ends now or you're gone. This has gone on long enough.
  2. Probably because said titles are being discontinued and they are getting old stock back from distributors.
  3. As long as you get to CDUniverse through the search link, anything you then order within the next 12 hours from the site (including videos, videogames, etc.) counts as credit.
  4. Conn, glad you are ok. Take care of yourself, my friend. Don't be stubborn. Money is money but life is all we have.
  5. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Gerald Wilson and talking with him briefly at the Detroit Jazz Festival on Sunday night. He was eating dinner in the artist hospitality tent with people from Mack Ave. Records. He was very gracious, and made me repeat my name several times so he could remember it. I told him I loved his music and especially those sides he did with Groove Holmes. I also told him I loved his son's playing and he lit up. "I will tell him that!" he said. Very kind man, and I wish I had the chance to talk to him more. I bought the two Mack Ave sides at the festival (two for $20!) and listened to New York, New Sound today. Killer stuff.
  6. Supposedly, from comments on the DVD page of Amazon.uk for that video, Gonsalves falls asleep several times during that show, only to wake up and blow incredible solos on certain tunes.
  7. It appears that the footage on YouTube is from this DVD: Duke Ellington - Copenhagen 1965
  8. Ray Nance. Allegedly Duke fired Nance due to unreliability. Gonsalves remained! I love Ray Nance's face after he finishes his solo and twirls the horn! I can't believe Gonsalves is totally out cold!
  9. Here's to a fast recovery, my friend!
  10. I was referring to him staying put and teaching college. How will that help the NBA? For those few who decide to go to college from high school instead of entering the NBA, coaches like him will hopefully a respect for the knowledge and practice of the fundamentals, which, when those students enter the NBA (as some no doubt will), will transfer into the pro game. It's a long shot, I know.
  11. Hopefully. I hate Duke, but I have a lot of respect for Coach K. He needs to stay put and teach his impressionable students the game. Hopefully that will help get the NBA back to the basics of playing basketball.
  12. We had a lot of fun and met some fellow forum members, including Mark Sheldon, jazzshrink, Rupert Da Cat, and mgraham (I probably forgot someone... if so, sorry!) The organ was kinda whack (that's usually how it goes at these things) but it worked out fine. I'm home for a few hours after playing with Root Doctor at the Detroit International Jazz Festival before headlining the REO Town Festival here in Lansing with Root Doctor. Then it's off to Detroit to play with organissimo tomorrow evening. Saw Frank Malfitano today and hopefully I'll hook up with Mitchell Feldman, our radio man, tomorrow. He just got in from Atlanta to Detroit. Fun weekend!
  13. Thanks, twirlygirly. We had some serious fun at Founders that night. Just got back from Detroit after playing with Root Doctor. organissimo was a hit in Chicago and we're looking forward to Detroit tomorrow evening! So much music, so little time!
  14. It's funny, because a buddy of mine found a mint Hammond C3 for $125 at a local thrift store. Now there's an organ that's worth $2000. So, like I said, someone at the store probably went to Ebay and looked at Hammond organs and got the idea that this one was worth a bunch of money. But it ain't...
  15. Shouldn't that be
  16. He's talking to ALL members, not just Philly-area ones. Especially after we pull a Keith Moon on his house. Hey Ron, do you prefer glue or nails to put furniture on the ceiling?

  18. Like Soul Stream said, anything with a built-in cassette player is basically junk. That's when Hammond went away from the tonewheel generator and into transistors. And since when do "thrift" stores sell something like an organ for $2000?! Somebody got on the web, did minimal research, and thinks they are being savvy.
  19. Coleman Hawkins & Benny Carter
  20. We do allow taping, but I don't think anyone was taping that night. Sorry. If twirlygirl is who I think it is, I believe she already has both CDs. Even if she doesn't, coming to live shows is the way to support a band more than anything. Putting butts in seats (and sometimes on the dance floor!) Thanks for seeing live music!!!

  22. Did you come here just to belittle people about baseball?
