  1. I've been looking at this Yamaha: http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/product...&RLTID=1505 Straight-ahead, no surround-sound, stereo receiver with phono preamp.
  2. Chuck is referring to the fact that GA Russell gets a lot of promo (ie, free) copies of discs from various labels because he used to write for AAJ. Why this is a point of contention, I don't know.
  3. I wouldn't even call it essential Joey D. You can hear him do this kind of stuff on any of the recordings he's released in the last decade.
  4. For the record, I did have provolone on my cheesesteak. No velveeta or cheez-whiz for me.
  5. I could eat one of those right now. Sooooo hungry. NO food at my house. When I'm gone, my wife doesn't eat.
  6. We went to the Redding Terminal and I had a cheesesteak at Rick's. Then we hit some little joint a few days later in Mt. Airy and that's where I had the hoagie. Damn, that was one helluva sammich.
  7. I was the only band member to have a cheesesteak. Ron actually had two over the course of our stay. I just had one. I did have a Philly hoagie, though. I think that was even better than the cheesesteak. I would've tried other cheesesteaks, but Leslie fed us like kings and there was no reason to eat out!
  8. Go see another doctor.
  9. That may be true, but these kids didn't really do anything too heinous beyond hiring a stripper for a party. Yes, they were drinking, but that's what college kids do (I did plenty when I was at MSU). This accuser hasn't even been heard of by anyone, including her family, since the DNA tests came back negative. I had the same reaction as Berigan when I first heard this story, instantly thinking, "Oh those rich jocks. What a surprise." And I condemned them in my mind before any shred of evidence was presented. And now the case just looks like an example of classism and racism to the extreme.
  10. On our recently completed East Coast tour we saw (and talked to) Pat Martino (super-nice guy) and Roy Hargrove (didn't give us the time of day).
  11. There was a really good article about this in the New Yorker a few weeks back. It seems to me from that piece that these kids, although rich and privileged for sure (and stupid for hiring a stripper) got the raw end of a deal from a prosecutor hell-bent on political gain. There is definitely racism involved and classism, on both sides.
  12. I told my wife I expect a pie to be ready, sitting on the counter for me after every gig. I slept on the couch.
  13. An amazing experience, for sure (Shur) and even better due to Ron's enormous help and his family making us feel like part of the family. It'll take awhile for all this to sink in.
  14. Yeah, we didn't know quite what to expect when we first got there, but it's a nice club (reminds me a bit of Baker's) and the people were very friendly and welcoming. Well, with the exception of the doorman. When we came in, he gave us a look like, "What the hell are you doing here?" We'll be there again tonight!
  15. I had to post this in it's own thread because it's just so damn funny. Herbie is seriously trying hard to get some play with this intro from 1975. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYuBWGEV7x4
  16. Yes, I deleted it because I assumed that people would read the first sentence and understand. The very first sentence of the post is "I am posting this press release with the permission. Thanks!" Beth did contact me first and ask permission.
  17. Cool pics! I forgot my shoes and my melanin, it seems! I look white as a ghost! Yeah, last night was crazy.
  18. The band was killin'! We played Tritone last night and had a ball. We had the place rockin' for our entire 100 minute set (is that like the 100 yard dash?! 'cos it seemed like it last night... the set went so fast...) I can't wait to see the Reptet again. Hopefully on a dual-bill with everyone's favorite organ trio!
  19. I should've asked just to make sure, as well. But I specifically remembered the contracts saying 75 minutes, so that's what I planned for. Oh well... what's done is done. Live and learn and all that.
  20. 11pm is when we hit. Dr. Ketchup starts around 9pm I believe.
  21. It means that akanalog doesn't like him. So what. That's just his (misguided) opinion. I think Elling was dropped from Blue Note but is still getting out there and touring. In fact, while looking up other organ players I saw that he'll be at the Kennedy Center in DC soon. So he's doing his thing.
  22. I was being sarcastic, of course. Jazz isn't dead... it just smells funny (Long Live Zappa!)
  23. One last chance to catch us in Philly until January. Y'all need to come on out, my Philly friends!
  24. Just heard that tonight in Philly as performed by Bootsie Barnes!
  25. Damn, and I had your potential replacements all lined up for auditions already. Those are going to be some awkward phone calls. But seriously, that's great news!
