  1. It seems to be when we get up around 60+ users at a time, things slow down pretty bad. Looks like I'm going to have to upgrade the server.
  2. BTW, thanks for the idea and I hope you don't have to stay too long in the hospital (and that they help you with whatever is ailing you). Best of luck.
  3. Hmm... that is a crazy idea. It just might work! The problem, as you stated, is how to get people to use the links in their posts when talking about specific records. I suppose it could be as simple as someone posting about a particular thread, and I could come in and post something like, "Hey, if you want to buy this disc, please do so through this link and help earn the organissimo forum some bread!" There might even be a way in the software to make such a post a "sticky" at the top of the thread (I'll have to look into that). Then there could be a master-list thread with all the discs discussed on here, in alphabetical order, with links to Amazon and also links to those discussions. It would take awhile to set up (and would continually be a work in progress) but it could be worth the effort, for sure. Hmmm....
  4. No dude, you grab your horn and start goin' Albert Ayler on their ass. And then when they get upset, just innocently say, "What?! I'm just jammin' with ya!"
  5. I don't know, but that would be cool. I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner, given the popularity of the first disc. Although maybe these record folks is smarter than we thunk.
  6. I would be scared to look inside your brain, Jim.
  7. How many cuts is Ron Blake on?
  8. I'm assuming you meant that you read a very favorable review somewhere, since how can you review it if you haven't heard it? (Although maybe that explains some reviews I've read! )
  9. Has anyone heard this yet? I didn't even know he had a new one out with the trio. I really like the last one, "Our Gang", featuring Joe Baggs on the organ. The record label website hasn't even been updated to reflect this new release. I read about it on Pete Fallico's Doodlin' Lounge. Anyway, looks tasty: Anthony Wilson Trio - Savivity
  10. I'm sure it happens a lot, especially these days since it is so easy to do in the digital realm (and very hard to detect, if not impossibe, if done right).
  11. Were you listening to this, perchance? Roger Waters
  12. Who cares? I do. Clem is great for cleansing the palate and getting back to basics (ie: reality) once in a while. Other times it's just BS but he keeps thinkers on their toes. Clem's good folks. Sure, ok. But I don't care if he, or anyone else, thinks my collection of music is shit. They ain't the ones who bought it. I did, and I like it. So piss off...
  13. Who cares?
  14. Anonymous donations are more than welcome. I appreciate all the help and I have almost deleted this thread about 10 times because it seems inappropriate to me, but damn... $150 a month is a lot of money.
  15. I heard rumors that the original iPod was designed in 1942 in Nazi Germany. It was called Die zweitpodenschtruschledorfenwiezle. Apple just took the "i" from Die and the "pod" from.. uh.. that other big word, updated the electronics, and voila!

    BLAH!

Recording yourself can be a real eye-opener. I recommend recording your gigs every now and again, even if it's just a cheap cassette recorder. We did this with Root Doctor this weekend and it really helps to hear what things are right and what things are not.
  17. So after dealing with some technical issues today (basically, I accidentally erased my calendar database for the main organissimo webpage, which means I have to put all those dates back in... oh well) I found out from tech support that my dedicated server does not have any sort of back-up in place. Which means if the server went down badly (harddisk failure, data corruption, etc.) we'd be doobied. I try as much as I can to do weekly backups of the database, but sometimes I forget and as many posts as we have in a week, that probably isn't enough anyway. So... long story short, my monthly costs for this joint just went from $100 to $150 for daily backups. I hate to do this because I know how crappy things are (believe me... let's not talk about personal finances right now!) in this sluggish economy, but if y'all could spare some bread, I would appreciate it. The donations have dropped off massively. If only 100 people donated $5, that would keep us going for many months. Paypal via the "Donate" button in the upper right or money order / check to me at the address on the homepage (click here). Obviously this isn't mandatory, but it would help. I'll even re-open the Sexy Album Covers thread. Thanks, y'all.
  18. Wanna talk about lack of storage capacity?!? I've got one of these in my van: I almost hit an old lady crossing the street the other day trying to flip to the B Side of Hank Marr's Greasy Spoon!
  19. When will this be archived? Can't wait to hear it!
  20. I think it's an Arp String Ensemble.
  21. Watch out, though, 'cos this kid is on your ass... http://bigsynth.com/
  22. There has been much discussion of this in the past: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...opic=15295&st=0 http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...opic=16420&st=0
  23. No, but you do have to learn to wear outfits like this:
  24. Most likely Bennet's beef with Smith and his disciples was the public's ignorance of how they were actually playing the bass lines. On almost every Jimmy Smith album, the liner notes claim that he is producing the bass lines with his feet, comping with his left hand, and soloing with his right, which is not correct. Is Jimmy's way "cheating"? It could be argued as such, especially if you do the one-pedal tap that I outlined earlier, which produces the same "plucking" effect for which the Jimmy Smith-style basslines are known. But Smith himself did not tap one-pedal, he shadowed or copied what he was playing in his left hand with his foot. Speaking from experience, do this for long enough and you will be able play a swingin' bass line with one foot, without the left hand. I agree with Mike that generally speaking, pedal-only basslines on the Hammond don't sound very good, not necessarily due to the person's technique (although really uptempo tunes would probably be next to impossible), but due to the nature of the sound of the Hammond itself. From the beginning, the biggest complaint about the tonewheel Hammonds from classical organists was the "flabbiness" of the bass pedal tones. After seeing Hammond-Suzuki rep and gospel organist Aaron Thomas live, I can honestly say my pedal technique pales in comparison (and I consider myself a good pedal player in the jazz sense). That guy played basslines with one foot faster and more precise than I could do with my left hand. He's incredible. That's what true classical pedal technique will do. Jackie Davis played pedals exclusively I believe. Rhoda Scott, as mentioned. Milt Buckner. A lot of the "old guard", pre-Jimmy Smith people. The nice thing about the Smith technique is that when you do lay into the pedals, it creates a nice way to really build tension. To get back to Jazz Kat's question, I would ask yourself this: Do you want to play and sound like Jimmy Smith? If yes, learn the pedals. If no, then don't worry about it.
  25. At first glance, I read this as "modern living room jazz music."
