  1. Ha! It's your worst nightmare. Watch C-Webb come to LA, too!
  2. I would love to play clubs in Chicago and I've been trying to book gigs. So far the only clubs that will take a chance on us want to pay too little to make it worthwhile. I have a family to support, after all.
  3. So recently I modified a dresser/hutch to be our TV hutch/stereo system stand. It's cool because we can hide all the stereo components behind "drawers" and the TV behind doors so our little one can't get at them when she gets old enough. I told my wife not to run the stereo system when the "drawers" are closed because the components won't get enough air and may over-heat. Well this morning she says to me, "Honey, the black amp thing won't turn on so I can't listen to music. Did you unplug it?" My system is a Arcam CD72 player going into an Adcom GFP-750 preamp then into an Adcom GFA-5400 amp powering B&W CDM-1se speakers. The "black amp thing" she was referring to was the preamp. Sure enough, it wouldn't turn on. Oh crap, I thought. And I remembered waking up one morning with Zora and doing our morning routine... going out into the living room, feeding, then watching some TV together. And the other morning I heard a faint buzzing sound and realized the sound system was on and the "drawers" were closed. I turned the amp and CD player off. The amp was really really hot. I looked at the preamp and it was already off. Now I know why. So I was freaking out today. $1250 preamp and I don't have the money to buy another or get it fixed. I figured some of the components must've burned up. I tried not being mad at my wife as we are both absent-minded these days, caring for the little one. But that didn't work and we did get into a tiff about it. I was pretty upset. So I email Adcom and explain the situation. They just emailed me back (at 2:00am) and said, "Please take the top cover off and examine the fuses. Let me know what you find." WHAT?!?! There are fuses inside the thing!? Wouldn't they be more pratical outside the preamp? So I take the top off (it has stupid "allen wrench" type screws that are very tiny and hard to get out) and sure enough, there are three fuses in there, one of which is blown. THANK GOD! But why in the hell did they put them on the INSIDE?! They would've saved me so much grief and making my wife angry at me!!! Ha!
  4. Thanks, Lazaro. From Allmusic:
  5. That's too bad. Well, Organissimo can't even get into the Detroit Jazz Festival which is in our own back yard, so I guess it shouldn't be surprising that we can't get into Chicago either. We gotta get a manager of some sort.
  6. I've never heard him. Is he on any records?
  7. So this is what they went with for the lone organ appearance? Bummer. Henry Johnson is the guitarist that played with Joe Williams for years, isn't he? Good player. Irene Reid, decent singer. Who is Chris Foreman? Organissimo should be playing this.
  8. Wow, looks fantastic! Want to re-do our main site? www.organissimo.org Once you're done with the Basie site, of course. I've been wanting to update ours and do it all in PHP but I don't have the time to learn the language.
  9. I think doublem should answer this question.
  10. As far as I know, nobody lost their retirements because of Martha Stewart's trades. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  11. Sangry needs to submit something by Quartet Out, for sure. No words... just insane avant garde saxophone playing. Put a little note on it that says, "This is what happens when I don't get my Little Debbie."
  12. This is actually not true. Also: Snopes Urban Legends
  13. The best thing about gigging is playing music! That's why I do it in the first place, not to party or drink or smoke dope but to play and play well.
  14. I played the first one. Haven't played any others just due to time. The first one was cool! I don't have any time for gaming anymore which is a bummer because it's something I really enjoy. Oh well. I will, however, buy Fallout3 and try to play it when or if it comes out.
  15. Well, if you were to play with an organist today they'd probably be using a lightweight simulator and you'd be pining for the old days of the real thing because the sims suck. Just like digital pianos suck! I haul my B3 to every gig I do now and my bandmates are more than happy to help load and unload because the sound is so great. Nothing else comes close. That said, my biggest complaint about gigs is when either a) nobody cares what you're playing and/or B) there's nobody there to listen.
  16. Yes, she may improve, if she keeps working at it. Then again, Otis Redding was 26 when he died. Think about that for a minute.
  17. Well Shaq wanted out basically from the moment the Pistons whooped his ass. LA could either trade him now or wait until next season when he's a free agent and they don't get shit. Besides, he's 32 years old and hasn't been keeping himself in shape. I don't think he'll have too much of an impact in the East. I expect the Heat to make the playoffs again, but they won't get any farther than they did this year. And might I add, the "dynasty" has been over for a couple years now. You Laker fans just couldn't admit it. Rubbin' it in, baby!!!!
  18. I wasn't too impressed either, but I've only heard one song (whatever one has a video playing on VH1 or MTV or whatever). She just seemed to sing the same lick at the same place over and over again... no real improvisation like the best soul singers (Aretha, Otis, J.T., etc.)
  19. I have had links to both Alan's site and AAJ on the main homepage for quite some time. www.organissimo.org
  20. Some sort of twisted incenstual relationship, I'm sure.
  21. I’ve seen it before, it happens all the time. You’re closing the door, you leave the world behind. You’re digging for gold, you’re throwing away a fortune in feelings, but someday you’ll pay.
  22. WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!! Interplay Announces Fallout3 deal with Bethesda Has anyone here played Morrowind: Elder Scolls? An amazing RPG that Bethesda released a couple of years ago.... this is going to be SWEET!!!! WOOT!
