Yep, me too. I'm always a happy man when I put on the Vol. 4 and 5 discs. BIG for his Charles Lloyd efforts too.

You can use the f-word in this class
tonym replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
It's not just the 'f' words though that they're keeping tally on; which means that the kids will have to decide which word in their lengthy vocabs deserves use on any given day. -
Well done! All the best, Tony.

Do so with a Pez Dispenser. ← Or scat á la Keith Jarrett through his solos.

That's the weird thing because of all my expectations, this place was the one 'sanctuary' where I assumed there would be good music in a suitable environment; the club owner is a well known British jazz drummer and it has a reputation nationally for offering high quality acts. The thing is, where I live, some 250 miles from London and 180 miles from Edinburgh, good jazz clubs are thin on the ground and I don't get chance because of my circumstances to visit other cities to listen to good music. So it's special occasions like this (a few nights away with my good lady sans child) that I get the opportunity; if my expectations exceeded what is being offered in a joint like that, then I am up shit creek

Now to a lot of you guys, especially the gigging ones, you've probably seen all sorts of behaviour at gigs over the years. I though, have been lucky I suppose in that all the ones I've ever attended have been patronised by fairly courteous, eager-to-hear people ( bar the one girl at a Dave binney gig who insisted on discussing Chet baker with her friends.... ) who want to experience just more than value for money. However, on Wednesday evening my wife and I planned to go to hear a band playing at the new Jazz Bar in Edinburgh, Scotland. It's a new venue, built after the last one was victim to a huge fire in the old part of the town. It's also run by a drummer who was playing on the night with the trumpeter Valarie Pomanerov. We arrived about 20 minutes late but the band had only been on for one tune and the place was getting quite full. We sat, quite near the back as it happens and over the course of the next 20 minutes many more arrived, some content to stand at the back after getting a drink frm the bar yet the majority proceeded to edge their way near the centre of the room and crowd the bar and obscure the view of those sat at tables. One couple of blokes stood and talked about football for a good while without actually acknowledging there was a band playing unitl I asked them to shut up. Several tables near the back were occupied by people who's conversations grew louder and more raucous over that time. Eventually, I approached the manager at the door and said that although it was a bar, I, along with others, had come to listen to music yet I seriously couldn't hear myself think. I suggested that although I didn't want to be a pain in the arse, I would be leaving with my money back or there would be some serious words with the offending parties . I was met with, "I dinna blame you mate, this woman here, (pointing) is doin' ma fuckin' heeed (Scottish accent) in". The woman looked up, paused then went back to her howling and cackling. Where do people get off? It's just so rude. I'm aware that it was festival time in Edinburgh and many folk just go to these venues to hear some 'jazz', any jazz, or some other genre that they don't normally experience, but this was a good band, not some local students playing for exposure or indulgence. I really felt for the tenor man who, when he oozed into 'Everything Happens To Me', struggled to be heard above the rising volume. Rant over but how do you fellas feel about behaviour like this? I did insist to the manager that I would return to the club in future, just not when these arseholes were hanging around. Was I the pain in the ass the whole time?

and....if you think back to that Tour, on particular mountain passes, Armstrong rode up the road to nil response by several French riders who sat back and scratched their heads, visibly scared to go after him; they couldn't even sneeze without supplying a dope test after what had happened in 98. Apparently, the same lenient Tour organisers and governing body were so keen to 'stamp-out' the goings on the previous year they continued to hound the French riders. I'm sure this doesn't help Armstrong's image to some.

Speaking of Stanko, I can heartily recommend "Litania - The Music of Krzysztof Komeda." ←

I'm glad there is a Mustang that once again shouts, 'muscle' loud and proud. It has, like the old Plymouth Roadrunners and Chevy Chevelles that jacked up at the rear, imposing stance that a real musce car should have. They are hellish value for money too. What is it, something like £30 grand for a big GT-like cruiser. This appeared for sale at £23000 with only a few miles on.

Hope you had a good 'un, SS.

welcome back John. How's the house?

Bobby Hutcherson's 'Oblique'. The RVG, which for us, means it's a Copy Controlled jobbie. Nevermind, should still be good and something new to listen to while CDBaby do their thing with my next incoming: 'This Is The Place'

That's how it's been most of the time over here too Claude; truly dreadful 'summer' weather. We may have, what our British press like to call, an Indian summer, where the temperatures hit 25 degC for three weeks in September .

I've just this minute ordered it; hell, I feel like I'm missing out big time and it's only been out a few days. Looking forward to hearing it a great deal, especially since my impromptu meeting with 2/3 of the trio. Wait a second, my in-laws were at Niagara last Sunday; maybe I should have told them to hang around there a while, nip across the border, buy a local A-Z, and run and get me my copy. Then again, my father in-law thinks I'm weird enough as it is.

Nut Bra..... Now I'll get my coat....

Excellent Ed. I'm pleased you went with a high quality package. It sounds like that bike shop are just the job. A few fundamental 'housekeeping' rules and you'll get years out of that thing. PS remember your pump, spare tube and some allen keys!!! have fun...hope the weather is nice.

Well actually I would still snap one up if the opportunity presented itself. The problem is though, and this won't be any surprise to you fellas, but they just don't handle well on UK roads. I mean we have all sorts to contend with over here; they are narrow, awfully bumpy and unmade in places, and mine does corners rather well. There is still time though.

I haven't driven one with a blower. There was another there with the 4 litre engine + supercharger and when it pulled up a few people were grimacing at the high pitched whine that accompanies the motor. i don't mind it but I'm not sure if it would get to me after a whike. One thing for sure though, on a big lazy V8, the supercharger is a good route to go; bringing the torque and hp up proportionally. Glad you appreciated the pics.
