  1. Big 1" 7/8 spanner in finely tuned works (wallet)....aaaarrrrgghhhhhh!
  2. For UK board members, HMV online have all of these for pre-order 4th April, at £8.99 per disc. Not OTT in my opinion.
  3. Just checked and they don't. No worries. Thanks anyhow lads.
  4. But unfortunately there is a downside. Come the cold weather, we're left shaking like sh*t*ing dogs. Tony: 147lbs for the last 15 years, whether I ride my bike or not.
  5. Hey!!! Cate Blanchett is perfect.
  6. Have a great Birthday Wes, a warm sunny one too probably
  7. I think maybe since your dad is only human after all, and probably has as much testosterone coarsing through his veins as he did years ago, that possibly explains his enjoyment of the film
  8. "Thread's dead baby, thread's dead"
  9. Thanks for all the advice fellas. It's decided then; the VV box followed by some post-ALS stuff on individual albums. I'll also try to get hold of Crescent and Ballads (in their 'deluxe' forms, if possible). Thanks again.
  10. So is the extra stuff on the 'Deluxe' editions of Ballads, for example, worth holding out for? Does the Complete Studio Recordings present the quartet discs as they were originally released?
  11. Well I have a fair bit of his Atlantic stuff (as well as his Prestige dates) but I find his sound later more 'manageable' (obviously, that would be up to a ceratin point!). Plus, the group 'sound' with Tyner et al is quite unique.
  12. Is that due to their reissue of certain albums as 'Deluxe' packages?
  13. I should've contacted Kim on the pretence that I needed her expertise. Sorry, back to topic.
  14. Help. I want some more Coltrane. Bearing in mind from his Impulse period I only have The VV Master Takes, A Love Supreme and the Johnny Hartman album (I know the shame of it ), I am deciding on whether to buy the Complete Village Vanguard 1961 Recordings or The Complete Impulse Studio Recordings. On Amazon right now, they have both for not dissimilar prices. Are there any reasons for not getting the Complete VV when I have a selection already (weird that I bought the Mater Takes really, as I'm not normally a compilation type)? Any advice (apart from get them both) would be useful. Thanks.
  15. Hi Bertrand, I've downloaded all of the tunes that Jim has made available and after storing them in my iTunes folder, they've gone straight to the iPod without any problem. Best of luck.
  16. Saucer of 'Carnation' for JazzKitten!
  17. Happy Birthday mate
  18. Though if she is Scouse, I think locking away your 'Heavyweight Champ' set may be the wisest thing to do!
  19. Huh, you mean she's not from Manhattan.
  20. Maybe this would be an opportune moment to brush up on my chat up technique.... "Hi Kim, this is Tone from England, near London (they love that don't they, US chicks) and I was wondering id you fancied checkin' out my new deluxe edition of 'Ballads'? Over dinner perhaps? Great, I'll go chill the Champers." Ding dong. Little minx.

    Wayne Shorter...

I avoided the 'search' function Guy, knowing I would be bombarded with past posts, but thanks, I'll check that out. I really wanted to say, and I don't think I actually did, that it's been a while since I was as chuffed at hearing something really amazing. Thanks all.

    Wayne Shorter...

I can just see him weilding his soprano around in a big arc, but he wouldn't send the ball for six; it'd do some gracefully circuitous route through the bowler's legs and up around their ears. It would, needless to say, land on an intended spot. Great to hear everyone's appreciation of him. Keep it going.
  23. Wonder what she'll look like in few years time when things start 'headin' down South' BTW anyone seen 'Supersize Me' yet? Just ordered it to rent.

    Wayne Shorter...

We all know how good he is. Luckily my discovery of Wayne wasn't that long after my initiation into the music, but still I find myself amazed at his skills, musicianship, feeling and, most importantly (IMO) for a tenor player, sound. There's that track from Tale Spinnin', 'Gibraltar' I think, where he's all honking and vibrant. Then the whole of Speak No Evil. Obviously. Hundreds of moments to choose from with Miles; 'Footprints', 'Country Son' and then taking the soprano into new territory with IASW. All great solos. The recent live stuff too, is great. Then he goes and wows me again. Last night I was listening to the Plugged Nickel set. Now I've heard various methods suggested as to how to listen to this set; let's face it, it is overwhelming being confronted by so much music of a potentially jaw-dropping standard, so I've just been picking out little selsctions for the last two months. I decided to dive in and listen in earnest. I heard this one chorus on 'My Funny Valentine' from the second set, I just had to listen to over and over. There are many more moments like this. I know this has probably been covered to death, but I had to share it with you all. Is there anybody who doesn't like him?
