Thanks Nate! ... a good radio show for the past hour and change. Got me into some other moods as I've been listening to too much funk and soul and stoopid music as of late. My comments are a bit short - but I do love reading the long winded ones by those who actually know something about the music. 1. - The Wiggles 2. - hmmm ... I like the bass burbling under it all but no clue as guitar is not much on my radar. 3. - NICE! really like this cut. Got me groovin' big time. Some Courtney Piney thing maybe? 4. - more geetar ... here in that Eugene Chadbourne mode. This is how I usually play! And I get better after more Sangria at the end just like this guy. 5. - Trumpet's not much on my radar either, the sound is much better than say Roy Campbell and has more tooth than Dave Douglas, but ...? Kind of a redundant McLean thing going on in this composition ... but it stayed redundant. 6. - Like the sinewy eastern circular intro that reminds me of Ned Rothenberg but it gets a bit more AEC than him. Now after having come back to see this is still the same song it gets off on a better foot after the seventh inning. 7. - Dig that MengleyMonkyness and like this one just for it's simple propulsion ... and that seems what all the cuts previous have also done. Love a bomping piano that grabs you. Might this be Douglas and Misha, nah? 8. - Zorn goes Spy vs Spy II and plays the Ornette canon on violin? My dog ran out of the room and gave me the middle paw! 9. - A bit of dirgee dutch thing maybe? I do like this one as it kind of hints at some of that Gramavision stuff of the nineties. A bit more sophisticated than a Kamikaze Ground Crew but with similar circus sensibilities. I keep waiting for Jean Sheperd to come in and tell me about a clown. 10. - hmmm ... I like this - interested to hear who it is. 11. - short sweet and the end. good closer.

Some other startling Hermann ala solo is that heard on Ran Blake's "Vertigo", Owl Records. I don't have it here and find no info on my Googles. Now if I can only get with the ripping from lp thing. -_-

Mosaic sale, ending October 14
Man with the Golden Arm replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Wondering if anyone might know of licensing issues re: "The Jazztet" box? I know that it was available for a time in Europe and sold cheaply (un-numbered sets?). At 10,000 I'm thinking this will be around a loooong time if those Euro numbers did not make a dent. But then again might it run up against the same fate of the VeeJays and be pulled prior to the cap? I'm hoping a 20% er by Christmas for at least the sets that are in heavy stock. -

That recipe is a ruse! Larry's wife caught him in the "sous stage", latherin' up that dog with her most expensive Kalamata olive oil and he improvised the rest right on the spot. -

peaked my curiousity. I doubt really that the Dap-Horns are bitching about being the MTV Awards house band and all over Ronson's new album when they go to make a deposit. They even do up the horns on Ronson's Dylan re-mix (?). More power to 'em. So the truth comes out ... it was Sharon who slipped the mickey in Amy's Ketamine punch! -
Sounds very 'River' (what a great single album that would have been) from the snips I've caught. Radio review I just heard commented on how political the whole of it is as one might expect. I'm listening to "Livin' in the Future" now with it's nostalgic "Tenth Avenue" breakdown and his voice sounds surprisingly good, not as caricatured as his more recent outings - a plus. But "Girls in Summer Clothes" ? is just so overthetop with the Pet Sounds send up - of anybody Springsteen can do a better job of incorporating hommage into a song but this one just ain't right - does the rest of it bring it around? Will have to hear more as I'm still a 70's fan.

That Blair's stuff should be illegal. Got a bottle of the "possible side effects" here at the studio and ya can't even look at it without sweating. edit: i see the Blair's I have is Out of Print ... trade-bait!!! Cholula is my go to Baja Fresh condiment and for some reason a bottle always seems to follow me home. -
UP for considering these or others of the same species now as I can't go with the bigass headphones all the time. so tell me, as I always cringe at the fact of wearing things in the old auditory canal thinking that I'm going to end up deef - are these really still comfy now that you've had them for many months?? ... and what happened to my photoshop image of Nipper getting his head blown off by a Victrola in post #14??? it just don't read the same.

WORD to what Jim has said and all points here are on the mark in one way or another so no one can get high off being aware. Walmart and the fact that it's strong arming has lead to the same by ToysrUs is the real reason behind all of this and more. What I find strange is that in the reports you read no mention is made that most all of the products within the recall come from the Mattel and FP "direct LLC" division - the main supply in the Walmart food chain and if you look at the shelves that is pretty much the base of their stock - tons of crap made so cheaply just to get that screaming cart bound kid to calm down while mom loads up on some shells and camo. That division as well as the one Hasbro had for a time are trying to get their product done as cheaply as possible from the stateside design up thru quick marketing turnarounds to sourcing at bullpen factories. (funny that you mostly saw the "Sarge" jeep from Cars in the media - and trying to get white to go opaque over dark olive drab is quite a task so getting wrung out for a penny and getting rejects from Pixar/Disney etc about how that white just ain't white enough leads factories to make some rather poor choices to save their own buck - but that toy is an odd duck as compared to all the others.) leaded Surprising that the worlds largest toy maker by sheer number of pieces, McDonalds, has never had any recall to this proportion. Now as for that "magnet" problem? they just made a silly design mistake ... ya can't imbed an itty bitty rare earth magnet in the hands and feet of a 3" rubbery toy and not expect a kid to gobble 'em up.

What's Tge Story With These New Verve Reissues?
Man with the Golden Arm replied to DMP's topic in Re-issues
Picked this up with that Border's coupon so it was $7 sumthn. "Originals" series as the side bar on the digi sez? Flimsier than LPR or Elite packaging, bad cover repro, no personnel notation as per original. Sound is fine if a bit shrilly BUT "Who's Afraid ... parts 1 & 2" and "Women of the World" are kickers supreme! Now about that "MONSTER!"
